[Mombasa – Late Afternoon | Community Perimeter]
School ended like any other day.
Noise.
Movement.
Relief.
Students poured out of the building in groups.
Talking.
Laughing.
For most—
the day was over.
For Dhalik—
it wasn't.
He walked slower this time.
Not tired.
Just thinking.
That feeling from earlier—
it stayed longer now.
Even after it disappeared.
Like something leaving a mark.
Msemo was waiting near the path leading back toward the houses.
Leaning slightly against the wall.
Watching.
"You felt it again," he said.
Not a question.
"…Yeah."
Stronger this time.
Msemo nodded once.
"Same direction?"
"…Not exactly."
That mattered.
Because it meant it wasn't fixed.
It moved.
Msemo pushed himself off the wall.
"Walk with me."
They didn't head straight home.
Instead—
they moved along the outer edge of the community.
Where fewer people walked.
Where things were quieter.
"You ever notice how this place is built?" Msemo asked.
Dhalik looked around.
"…What do you mean?"
"Everything connects," Msemo said. "But not everything is visible."
He pointed slightly.
"Paths, sightlines… places you can stand and see without being seen."
Dhalik followed his gaze.
And for the first time—
he understood what he meant.
"…So someone could stay inside… and still watch everything."
"Exactly."
That settled heavily.
Because it confirmed something important.
They weren't dealing with someone outside.
They were dealing with someone who knew the space.
They walked a bit further.
Then stopped.
"Alright," Msemo said. "Show me."
"…Show you what?"
"That thing you do."
Dhalik frowned slightly.
"…I don't control it."
"Try."
A pause.
Dhalik closed his eyes briefly.
Not forcing it.
Just… paying attention.
To everything.
Sound.
Air.
Space.
At first—
nothing.
Then—
faint.
A shift.
There.
"…Right side," he said quietly.
Msemo turned slowly.
Nothing obvious.
Just a path.
Empty.
"…You sure?"
"…Yeah."
This time—
no hesitation.
Msemo nodded.
"Good."
Because even if he couldn't see it—
he trusted what he was hearing.
They stood there for a moment longer.
Then—
Dhalik opened his eyes fully.
"…It's getting easier."
That wasn't good.
Because if it was getting easier for him—
it might also be getting easier for whatever was watching.
Msemo looked ahead.
Silent.
Thinking.
Because now—
this wasn't just a feeling anymore.
It was a pattern.
And patterns—
could be tracked.
Or broken.
But not ignored.
And somewhere inside that same community—
something was moving carefully.
Staying just out of reach.
Watching.
Waiting.
To be continued…
