Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The Night That Changed Everything

The rain fell relentlessly over New York City.

Thunder echoed across the skyline as the streets emptied beneath the storm.

The flashing headlights of the wrecked black sedan illuminated the destruction left behind.

Smoke rose from the crumpled engine.

Inside the vehicle, five-year-old Edison cried as he watched his parents struggle to move.

Blood stained John's white shirt.

Elizabeth's breathing became heavier with every passing second.

"Dad..."

John forced a smile.

"It's okay, Edison."

"Stay with your mother."

Before another word could be spoken—

BOOM!

A deafening impact shook the entire street.

The Winter Soldier and the mysterious old man collided once again.

The assassin's cybernetic arm crashed against a vibranium shield, sending cracks through the asphalt.

Although the old man's hair had turned gray and wrinkles covered his face, his body still moved with incredible precision.

Every movement carried decades of battlefield experience.

The Winter Soldier stepped back.

His emotionless eyes narrowed.

"...Isaiah."

The old man remained silent.

Names no longer mattered.

Not after everything the government had taken from him.

He wasn't Captain America.

He wasn't a national hero.

He was simply an old soldier trying to stop another tragedy.

Without hesitation, the Winter Soldier attacked again.

Steel met vibranium.

Their battle continued through the rain.

---

Inside the damaged sedan, John struggled to breathe.

His eyes shifted toward the small metallic bracelet wrapped around Edison's wrist.

It looked like nothing more than a child's accessory.

Only John and Elizabeth knew the truth.

It was the master key to Project 00.

Every encrypted file...

Every research note...

Every blueprint for the Innovator and Coordinator Projects...

Could only be accessed through that key.

John looked at Elizabeth.

"They came for our research..."

Elizabeth slowly shook her head.

"No..."

"They came for him."

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she looked at her son.

"We knew this day might come."

John nodded silently.

Reaching into his coat, he removed a small remote device.

Without hesitation...

He pressed the button.

Deep beneath Morgenroete Industries, hidden servers immediately activated their emergency protocol.

Every confidential file.

Every experiment.

Every classified database.

Began deleting itself.

At the same time...

Hidden explosives destroyed the underground laboratories.

Nothing remained.

If Hydra wanted Project 00...

They would have to take Edison alive.

---

Several meters away...

The Winter Soldier suddenly stopped.

A message appeared inside the small receiver hidden within his ear.

Mission Update.

Research Database Destroyed.

Priority Revised.

Capture the child.

His cold blue eyes turned toward the wrecked vehicle.

---

Isaiah saw it instantly.

His expression changed.

"No..."

The Winter Soldier disappeared.

Moving faster than an ordinary human could follow, he rushed toward the car.

Isaiah threw his shield.

CLANG!

The vibranium shield struck the assassin's metal arm, knocking his attack aside.

But it was too late.

The Winter Soldier drew a combat knife.

With one swift motion...

He slashed across John's chest.

Blood splattered across the broken windshield.

"Dad!"

Edison screamed.

John collapsed against the driver's seat.

Even then...

He smiled.

"My son..."

"Live..."

"...for yourself."

His hand slowly fell.

John Javier was gone.

---

Elizabeth let out a heartbreaking cry.

"JOHN!"

Ignoring her own injuries, she wrapped both arms around Edison.

The Winter Soldier raised his knife once more.

Before he could strike—

BANG!

Isaiah's shield slammed into his back.

The assassin was thrown across the street.

The old super soldier stood between the child and death.

"You'll go no farther."

The Winter Soldier remained silent.

After several seconds...

Police sirens echoed through the distance.

Hydra's mission had failed.

Without another word, the assassin fired a smoke grenade.

Gray smoke swallowed the battlefield.

By the time it disappeared...

The Winter Soldier was gone.

---

Isaiah immediately rushed toward the family.

Elizabeth was barely conscious.

She looked at the elderly man with fading eyes.

"...Please..."

"My son..."

Isaiah knelt beside her.

"I'll make sure he survives."

A weak smile appeared on her face.

"Thank... you..."

She gently placed her hand on Edison's cheek.

"My precious boy..."

"Never let hatred control your heart."

"Protect..."

"...those who cannot protect themselves."

"I'll always..."

"...love you."

Her hand slipped away.

Elizabeth Xingbing Javier closed her eyes for the final time.

The rain washed away the blood on the pavement.

Five-year-old Edison could only stare.

He couldn't understand.

He couldn't accept it.

His mother...

His father...

Were gone.

---

Isaiah slowly removed his coat and wrapped it around the trembling child.

For a brief moment...

The old soldier placed a hand on Edison's head.

"I'm sorry."

"They deserved better."

He looked toward the burning remains of the car.

Another family...

Destroyed by people chasing power.

Another child...

Left alone.

He refused to let the boy become another forgotten victim.

Taking a phone from his pocket, Isaiah anonymously contacted emergency services.

"There has been an attack."

"There are survivors."

He ended the call before giving his name.

Moments later, he disappeared into the darkness.

No witnesses.

No recognition.

Just as he preferred.

---

Several minutes later...

Police officers, firefighters, and paramedics flooded the scene.

A young officer gently picked Edison up.

"It's okay, son."

"You're safe now."

But Edison never answered.

His blue/Green eyes remained fixed on the place where his parents had taken their final breaths.

Deep within his soul...

The memories of another life completely awakened.

For the first time...

He truly understood the world he had been reborn into.

This wasn't a movie.

This wasn't a comic book.

This was reality.

And from that night onward...

Edison John Xavier Javier made a silent promise.

One day...

No child would lose their family because monsters hid in the shadows.

Even if he had to become a shadow himself.

One day...

The world would know the name...

Red X.
