Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

The day ended on a fair note and I'm definitely not saying that because the school was clear of someone like betty. Though, I did wonder where she went to with my parents. There was little tug of something in my heart, reminding me that they somehow always managed to forget me in the house, but it didn't matter.

I was constantly used to it. The school was over, charlotte was stuck with something and texted me to go ahead and I was currently parking my things from my locker when a particular shadow surfaced over me. I screamed. "Arrgh!"

And only stopped when I saw a grinning Luke. He was giving me the whole you-so-dramatic gaze and with a glint of something else. Whatever that was cause I couldn't decipher it and soon, I was groaning. "Do you always walk in the air?"

"What?"

He said, his lips tilting a bit when I muttered. "You do. Great, now it makes sense that I didn't notice you coming over"

He chuckled. "You're so funny"

"Now, I'm I?"

I uttered, throwing my bag straps over my shoulders. The school was clearing out already, and I needed a good night sleep. I could literally imagine the bliss of falling into the arms of my bed. Well-until Luke's deep voice interrupted and uttered. "You are coming to my place right?"

I frowned. "Uh?"

He met my frowning gaze with a little confusion. "Remember? Yesterday. You said you would come over"

I groaned Internally when I actually remember saying that. The first time that I wanted to go home and I couldn't. I blinked a little as I uttered. "I'm really tired"

He chuckled for like the second time already and swinging his arms over my shoulders, leading me out the hallways. "I have a room"

I tried to wiggle his arms away when he said that. "Nope. I'm not going to sleep in your room"

He looked down to my frame. "What are you thinking? I'm offering you that from the kindness of my heart."

I rolled my eyes. "I bet you are"

"You're imaginations are really wild"

He commented when we got outside the building and was leading me toward his car. I only obliged because he said that Sophie was asking for me and also because, he was my neighbour which meant that I was technically going home too.

The drive was rather silent with the both of us lost in our own thoughts. I was thinking about my parents, I couldn't help but feel like something was off in the home. I recalled the weirdness of the other day and it made me uneasy. I knew it. They must be hiding something from Betty and I. Then I thought about my life in school and how three particular guys suddenly made it more complicated than another things.

I sighed internally, gaping out the windows. The rain was falling really hard from outside and I stared at the empty space thinking about something I didn't exactly know how to address. Luke's issue with Betty.

I wasn't sure if Betty was hurt by his actions. Moreso, I didn't exactly know what was between them and as much as I didn't like Betty. I certainly didn't want her to be hurt. By anyone.

The car soon came to rest in front of his house. and we remained in silence a moment longer. I was staring outside, a little crease forming in my brows from the increasing rain outside. After a moment, I tilted my eyes to glance at Luke. He seemed lost in his thoughts. "Hey"

I muttered, jerking him out of whatever he was thinking. His brown eyes was glinting at me. "What?"

"How do we get inside?"

I asked and he was slowly diverting his gaze outside to stare at the rain. He then glanced back at me, removing his hoodie at the same time and handing it to me. He was now just in a singlet, and his arms were left opened. I grabbed it slowly, with a frown on my face and I was obviously not having a difficultly with keeping my eyes on his face. "Wear it"

His deep husk voice jerked me back to reality and I was fumbling with it and trying to get it around my body. He was staring with a glint of something, it was muse. He sighed after a while. "What are you doing?"

"Wearing it to the front"

I retorted like it was a normal thing and his brows raised a bit. "Why?"

I gestured, playing with the hoodie part and putting my face in it. Okay, I'll totally pretend that it didn't smell so good. "To protect my face from the rain"

He shook his head at me from my reply. "You know you behave like a kid?"

"Uh?"

I frowned. "I don't!"

I tried to make him see that I wasn't acting like a kid but somehow my protest only made him laugh and after a while. I gave up. We got down some moments later, and I was hiding under his arms even after wearing his hoodie. I was shivering like crap and once we got to the front door. He was staring at me in worry. "Are you alright?"

I nodded, even though I felt very bad. One thing I hated so much was the rain. Well-it was nice to look at it but I so hated the icy feeling against my skin. Sophie got the door and was soon squeaking when she saw me. "Oh..my"

I grinned, throwing myself into her warm arms and uttering. "I've missed you so much!"

It was a paradox because she was my neighbour and just right next to my house. Yet still, I missed her so much. She patted my cheeks lightly. "Now, you know to come around"

My grin widened. "I've been planing to all these days but I've been to busy"

I explained, unwrapping myself from her and looking happily at her. I sniffled the aromatic air, tilting my eyes behind. "What are you cooking"

Sophie was a chef and worked at some restaurant, where she in fact met the love of her life, Gavin. Their way of life was really different from Luke's own and I couldn't help but wonder how he felt deep down. I didn't know the story behind everything and how he ended up living with his uncle's place. "A new recipe . Wanna try?"

I grinned. "Of cause"

I muttered, almost lost in my discussion with her when I tilted my eyes a bit and noticed merely staring at the door way and doing nothing. Plus. He had some expression over his face.

I wondered if he ever spent time with his aunt. Well. If he didn't. I was about to make him. I walked over to where he was and pulled him by the hands. "Let's try the new recipe"

Obviously. I couldn't move him and he was declining on point. "You go ahead. I'll be upstairs"

I gritted. "No! You wouldn't"

I turned back to Sophie, who was looking between us in pure confusion. I didn't know what she was thinking now and there was more confusion when I said. "Luke and I would have a taste"

Her gaze slowly moved from me to the guy behind me and instantly I knew that he indeed didn't spend with his aunt. "Err.."

He stammered, looking at my eyes in a jiffy and then sighed. "We would have a taste"

I grinned, wrapping my hands around his clothe without knowing and smiling at him. He was giving me a quiet face and I poked him a little and whispering. "You would take an huge size"

He gave him that eyes and I laughed, covering my fingers over my lips. When we got to the dining table. It was cup cakes. My eyes widened and rushing over to pick one. Once I tasted it. I couldn't help but moan and Sophie was snickering at me. She was about to say something when her phone rang so she excused herself.

I turned to Luke. "Hey! Taste it"

I uttered, giving him the left over from what I just ate. He stared at it for a while before, biting a little from the piece in my hands. I blinked, locking eyes with him, when he stud up back. I was diverting my gaze around from the awkwardness after a while, he was uttering. "Happy now?"

I resisted a smile. "Not yet. Look-"

I pointed to the large-sized table. "There's still a bounty"

He blinked, before turning to glance at me with the exact face I was aiming for. I laughed at his widened eyes before uttering. "Of cause. You didn't think I'm going to cut you off so easily. You need to pay somehow for what you did to me"

We spent most of the remaining part of the day, playing and talking. I'm reality, we didn't eat all the cakes and even ended up throwing some on ourselves. Though, we did that discreetly without letting Sophie know about it. Gavin, his uncle was out so when Sophie retreated to her room, the house was a little bit quiet. I forced him to play games with me and yet, I lost all the time. We were in the sitting room and I was nagging telling him that he didn't know how to treat a lady and he should have let me win even just once. He laughed genuinely to that. We later decided to watch a small movie and mid-way to it, I was dozing off on his shoulders.
