Cold came out of the transport before the doors opened wide enough to show anything.
It rolled along the drainage road under the acid vapor. The green smoke thinned where the cold touched it, then sagged into pale drops that pattered over the mud. Ty felt the change through his burned palm, his folded foot, and the places inside his ribs where the hook had left pressure behind.
His body recognized the cold before his mind did.
That made him want to step back hard.
JJ kept one hand under his arm and the other on her sword. She felt him shift and tightened her grip without looking at him.
"If you fall over now, I am dragging you by the coat," she said. "Try to keep some pride available for dragging."
"Pride got crushed by the frame and left under the rail," Ty said.
The rear locks finished turning with a wet clank.
