Renee Alvarez had sixty-three family updates waiting and two nurses calling her from different floors when Dorsey knocked on the locked Station Four door.
She checked the security officer through the narrow window before opening it. Her badge hung from a blue cord, and a headset had left a red groove across her hair. Three desk phones rang behind her.
"I followed your instruction and left the interview request unopened," Renee said. "The family queue arrived anyway, and every caller believes I personally shut off their updates."
Dorsey entered with security and left the door locked. "Luis Park disconnected an unauthorized bridge. I sent the legitimate work here without enough warning, so every angry call belongs to my decision."
"Then I need more people before somebody in surgery wakes up to fourteen missed calls."
