There were countless monsters at the Pit, far more than in other parts of the Hollow Lands. It wasn't just because of the variety of structures there, but primarily because of the Frenzied Shards.
The strongest monsters in the Hollow Lands were found at the Pillars, or even had their own, like Kaerno.
If a monster wanted to obtain a Hollow Mark and significantly increase its chances of becoming a Fang, it had to go to the Pit.
One day, Larth arrived at the Pit, found a Frenzied Shard, and devoured it, thereby obtaining his Hollow Mark.
Many monsters preferred to use a hybrid approach: they didn't take such a big risk and instead made a pact with the Frenzied Shard. These monsters belonged to neither of the two factions and patiently drew energy from their Frenzied Shard, drop by drop.
