I don't believe it.
Without saying anything more, Nia Mitchell just sat there playing on her phone. Around nine o'clock, Maxwell Peary called.
"Why aren't you at home?"
After being busy almost the whole day, Maxwell's head was buzzing. When he drove back home, he discovered that little Rabina wasn't there.
This kind of situation—her not being at home—was obviously not a good sign.
Maxwell sat on the edge of the big bed and reached up to rub his temples.
On the bed, the little rabbit plush that Nia liked was still there.
"I'm at Evelyn Peary's place. I was just about to head back. Uncle, you're home?"
Since he knew she wasn't home, that clearly meant he was already back.
"Yeah, I'll come pick you up now. Stay there a bit longer."
Maxwell nodded and immediately started reminding her of a few things.
Nia looked puzzled, but she still had a smile on her face.
"No need, Evelyn is coming over later anyway. I can just take Evelyn's car."
