Chapter 1: Huh, Weird
Marvin awoke with a groan, rubbing his eyes and yawning as he sat up.
"THE MORNING," An All Might alarm declared. "IS HERE."
He stood, turning it off without thinking before freezing. Since when did he have an All Might alarm clock? Or an All Might, anything for that matter?
His hair stood on end as he glanced around the room. It was covered in All Might merchandise. A bookshelf with journals and action figures was next to the door, with a calendar.
"It's almost like Deku's..." He trailed off, staring at his hands. Was he SHORTER?
"What the actual f-" He paused as he heard an all-too-familiar voice calling out. He looked around; there was no one, but the voice sounded so close.
"Are you... Are you IN MY HEAD?" Marvin exclaimed quietly, gripping his hair with both hands.
'I think you mean YOU'RE in MY BODY,' Izuku replied from inside his head.
Marvin blinked and was inside some dark room, not too dissimilar from the control room in Inside Out, but instead of emotions, Izuku was standing inside the room. He glanced down at his hands, noticing they were the ones of his real body and not Izuku's.
'I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE I AM!' Marvin shouted internally. 'This has to be a dream. It has to.'
He took control and punched the desk, wincing slightly as he accidentally stuck off a piece of wood.
'Woah,' Izuku exclaimed. 'Do you have some strength quirk? Maybe a mutant type? I didn't see you activate it, so it must be. You didn't even seem hurt; it was like nothing! A physical enhancement quirk, then?'
'Izuku,' Marvin replied. 'From what I know, I don't HAVE a quirk. I'm still not sure how or why I'm here.'
That stopped Izuku in his tracks.
'What? How could you not have a quirk? You didn't even make a proper fist, and your knuckles barely hit the wood, yet you still removed a piece from my desk!' Izuku told him. 'Maybe you have amnesia? That would explain how you can't remember why you're here.'
'Normally, people are angry when their bodies are taken over,' Marvin smirked. 'But you're not wrong. I'm not sure if there are any body-swapping quirks, and even if there were, you'd be in my body instead of us sharing one. It's more likely someone shoved my consciousness into your body, but I've never heard of a quirk like that.'
'Neither have I,' Izuku mumbled. 'But if your consciousness is here, your body must be somewhere. Any idea where we could find it?'
'I lived in America,' Marvin sighed. 'What quirk has that kind of range? Besides, I lived in the year 2024. According to that calendar on your door, it's 2085. My body would be 78 at this point.'
'A quirk that sends people to other bodies and other points in time?' Izuku mumbled. 'There's been no record of quirks being able to do that, at least not in the way he's describing. It could be that such a quirk exists, but what purpose would it serve? Sending him into my body and leaving me alive? It doesn't make sense for any villains to do that.'
Marvin smiled; it was just like the manga. The mumbling was actually quite therapeutic since he also had the habit.
'Manga?' Izuku asked as a memory floated by. 'THERE'S A MANGA OF ME?!'
Marvin winced at the volume. 'Another inconsistency. You weren't alive at the time, yet the manga I'm talking about accurately describes your life until your end-of-year exams at UA.'
'Wait. I GET INTO UA,' Izuku exclaimed, throwing his hands into the air.
Marvin blinked. He was watching Izuku's hands raise, but he wasn't the one moving them. It was similar to being in the passenger seat of a car and felt quite odd; no wonder Izuku was freaking out before.
Izuku blinked, staring at his hands before looking around his room. Yeah, he was back in his body again.
'Huh. It seems like you can take control when you get emotional,' Marvin observed. 'In that case, I'm going to sit here while you go about your day; maybe I'll find a way to get out of your body.'
"I thought your body was old at this point," Izuku replied. "You sound like you're my age."
"I was," Marvin replied. "At least, I think so. I was roughly seventeen yesterday."
Izuku and Marvin continued their conversation as Izuku rushed to Dagoba Beach, with Izuku commenting on Marvin's oddly rough voice and Marvin mentioning Izuku's height, telling him he should eat more.
'Quick thing,' Marvin said as they reached the beach. 'You'll have to eat All Might's hair to gain One For All. The Entrance Exam will be tough, but let me handle it; I have a plan.'
The transfer occurred exactly as Marvin said it would, with Izuku feeling mildly less sick than in canon since he was preparing for it.
They reached the gate for UA, and Marvin suddenly grabbed control from Izuku, his eyes serious.
'Hey. What are you doing?' Izuku asked as they tripped; Marvin did not attempt to catch themselves.
'Three... Two... One...' Marvin smiled.
On his 'One,' they suddenly stopped, floating mid-air like gravity had turned off.
"Hey, sorry about that," Uraraka said, letting them down. "I thought you wouldn't want to fall your first day."
Izuku, or more accurately, Marvin, smiled at her. "No need to apologize. Yeah, I wouldn't."
He bowed slightly. "I'm Ma- I mean, Izuku Midoriya, pleased to meet you."
Uraraka smiled. "Ochako Uraraka," She said, returning the bow. "I'll see you."
And with that, she walked away.
Marvin sighed in relief and was about to hand control over to Izuku, but the green-haired teen was still frozen.
'She was gorgeous,' Izuku mumbled internally.
Marvin smiled as they started walking again. 'Oh, trust me. You've seen NOTHING yet.'
Izuku managed to snap from his shock as they entered the hall. Marvin gave him control, and Izuku immediately began fanboying over Present Mic.
Marvin let everything play out until Ida stood, jabbing a finger in their direction and giving them the formal speech equal to the middle finger.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Marvin drawled, snatching control from Izuku. "I didn't know heroes were supposed to be mute. I suppose that would make Present Mic and All Might villains then, wouldn't it?'
Ida flushed, trying to rally a response, but Marvin had already tuned him out.
They were standing in front of the gates now, and Marvin saw Uraraka nervously gripping her hands. He nudged Izuku to her; just because he liked Momo more didn't mean they couldn't make friends. Besides, Uraraka was strong, just with a lot of doubt.
Ida stopped them, his stare cold as his hand rested on their shoulder.
"What do you think you're doing?" He declared, loud enough for everyone else to hear. "Bothering the competitors? Do you plan to sabotage them?"
Marvin took control. "Ida, has it ever passed through your head that I know her? And not like I know you: Tenya Ida. Quirk: Engine. You have engines in your calves, granting you increased speed and kicking power. You fuel them with orange juice."
Marvin took a step forward, causing Ida to step back. There was a dark aura around Izuku, like that of a person who knew how to hurt people.
"Weaknesses," Marvin snarled. "Engines stall after constant use, so terrible at endurance. You have the durability of an average human, and your quirk forces you to rely on your legs. If your legs are broken, you're useless."
Ida looked terrified, his jaw trembling slightly as he stepped back again.
He braced himself, hiding his fear under a mask of authority. Marvin had to give it to him; there was a reason Ida made a great leader later on, but by God, he was annoying in the beginning.
The Exam began before he could say anything else, and he ran in, quickly explaining the plan to Izuku.
'Ok, so we need Uraraka to get into 1-A by saving me, or us, I suppose,' Marvin said as 5% Full Cowling covered their body. 'So at least our arm, if not our legs, will be broken. Until then, I'm racking up points elsewhere.'
'Are you sure about this?' Izuku asked as they jumped around.
'As sure as All Might is in you,' Marvin replied.
He jumped around, smashing into a one-point robot with both legs.
Marvin jumped back before rushing forward, punching through a two-point.
He twisted, rocketing into another one-point robot and holding it above his head.
He turned with a shout, throwing it into two two-point robots with ease.
They disappeared, jumping from building to building like lightning, fitting given the quirk.
'Didn't you say the lightning was green?' Izuku asked, internally staring at the light purple lightning arcing across their body.
'Might be because I'm here,' Marvin replied, punching through another one-point. 'If the quirk responds to emotions and reflects on you, having two people might change its behavior.'
"THREE MINUTES," Present Mic yelled, causing Marvin to wince.
'Are you ok?' Izuku asked as Marvin shook it off.
'Fine, loud noises aren't my friend, let's say that,' Marvin replied.
They jumped back, a bright laser missing them by hairs.
"Aoyama," He growled, taking the boy aback.
"Ah, so you know moi?" Aoyama asked, striking a pose.
Marvin used Izuku's hand to cover his eyes. "Unfortunately, I've been cursed with eyes capable of registering your existence."
'I thought you said friends wouldn't hurt,' Izuku frowned, tempted to take back control. Marvin was reminding him of Kacchan, if only calmer.
'I know. I don't know what got into me,' Marvin couldn't stop from snarling as the zero-point robot released from its position.
'Whatever it was, hopefully, it won't affect our class relations,' He told Izuku as they ran. 'I truly do not want enemies.'
Marvin grinned as they launched towards the robot with 20% Full Cowling, both wincing as their legs cracked. It wasn't a break, but it still hurt halfway to hell.
"Say it with me now," He grinned, drawing back his fist.
'DETRIOT,' Izuku and Marvin cried.
The robot was right in front of them, and power flowed through their fist.
"SMASH!"
The robot exploded, but not like it did in canon. It flew back violently, its massive frame lifting from the ground and crashing into a few buildings.
A powerful gust of wind flew through the air, smashing windows nearby and pushing back a few that were too close.
'That was much more powerful than I expected,' Marvin commented, handing back control to Izuku, nursing his broken arm.
Izuku blinked; his physical arm looked broken, but the arm inside his mind was fine. Another anomaly of the quirk that sent Marvin here?
'We're FALLING!' Izuku exclaimed mentally, preparing to throw a punch to save himself.
'WAIT, NO,' Marvin shouted, dragging back Izuku from the control.
'SMACK.'
Izuku's body floated in the air, his right arm at an odd angle.
'This feels oddly peaceful,' Marvin commented before they struck the ground harshly as Uraraka released her quirk.
'Ugh, fucking hell, I spoke too soon,' He groaned, rolling over Izuku's body so that it was face up.
'I thought you didn't have a quirk?' Izuku asked, staring at him through the mental space that made up Izuku's mind.
'I don't,' Marvin groaned. 'I have training, I think. My memories, beside the manga about you, are fuzzy. All I know is that's not the first time I've hit something harder than I should have.'
Chapter 2: It's Nice to be Weird
Author's note: Well, this blew up overnight. This was just an idea I had floating around in my head for weeks, and I finally mustered the courage to write. This is my first ever fanfiction, though I've written books before.
And to clarify some things, I don't hate Iida. I actually love him as a character; he's just really uptight about rules in the beginning and can come off as rude and insensitive, at least to me. I still love his character, and he will be friends with Izuku.
Also, I'm primarily working on establishing Marvin and Izuku's interactions. Momo will come in before the Sports Festival and will be a significant part of this story, hopefully by the final exams.
Anyway, here's the chapter.
'You stress out too much,' Marvin told Izuku as they walked to UA's front entrance.
It was beautiful, with the trees giving an aura of peace. Yet the building radiated power, much larger than the anime could show. It was a subtle reminder telling the students they weren't here to play but to change the world.
'IT'S UA,' Izuku exclaimed. 'How can I NOT be nervous? Especially with what you told that guy-"
'Ida,' Marvin reminded him. 'Younger brother of Ingenium.'
'Wait, really?!' Izuku's eyes went wide. 'Ingenium is amazing! How could I not notice the similarities? Though, Ingenium had his engines on his arms. Do you think I could get an autograph from Ida? Oh wait, you insulted him; he probably hates me. Oh God, I just insulted someone from one of Japan's most influential hero families!'
'Izuku, BREATHE,' Marvin exclaimed, snapping Izuku from his muttering. 'You didn't notice because you were panicking, much like now. Yes, he did; you'd have to ask him, and if it takes that little for someone to hate you, they aren't fit for a hero. Also, I insulted him, not you.'
They walked through the halls, neither refraining from looking around in awe. It was one thing to see it through a screen or on a page, but to see it in person? It was breathtaking.
'I wonder if Kacchan or Ingenium's brother is there,' Izuku swallowed nervously as he reached the 1-A door. 'They're both scary.'
'And? Fear is what makes a hero what they are. You'll never grow from it if you've never been nervous about something, whether it be a test, asking out a girl, or fighting a villain. You'll stagnate and wither,' Marvin told him forcefully.
Izuku nodded, opening the door hesitantly.
"GET YOUR FEET OFF OF THE DESK," Ida's voice roared at an uncaring Bakugo. "IT IS AN INSULT TO THIS INSTITUTION AND TO THE DESIGNERS TO HAVE SUCH LACK OF MANNERS."
'And in three... two... one...' Marvin grinned.
'Should I be worri-'
"Good Morning," Iida exclaimed, approaching them. "I am from Somei Private Academy. My name is Tenya Iida."
"Izuku Midoriya," Marvin replied, taking control of Izuku and bowing slightly. "I apologize for my words at the Exam; I was stressed and verbally attacked you for no reason."
"NONSENSE," Iida told them, returning the bow. "I understand how my words may have come off as insulting or demeaning; I assure you that wasn't my intention."
Iida paused, examining them. "Midoriya, you knew there was something else to the practical exam, didn't you? I'm sorry for misjudging you."
He turned his head away as if in pain. "You are better than me."
Izuku was about to reply when Uraraka arrived.
"You're that plain-looking one," She exclaimed, smiling.
'Ouch, talk about forward,' Marvin told Izuku as they turned.
"Your punch was amazing," Uraraka said, mimicking a punching motion.
"I- Well, it was only because you went to talk to them directly," Izuku stammered. Marvin let it play out; it was too funny not to.
"Huh? How do you know that?" Uraraka asked, stopping and staring at him.
Izuku and Urarka continued their conversation as it did in canon, the only exception being that Izuku was blushing a lot less, partially due to Marvin taking the reins occasionally to calm him down.
Marvin, though, apart from helping Izuku, was feeling uneasy. He could feel Bakugo's glare and even turned away from the boy, and part of him wanted to punch Bakugo to make the kid stop. It was a strange feeling, much more than a raw annoyance; it was an almost animalistic urge, the same one he felt when going to punch the zero-point robot.
"Go somewhere else if you want to make friends," Aizawa's voice cut through from his sleeping bag.
Izuku looked over Uraraka's shoulder, Marvin taking control and relaxing their face. Their eyes were half-closed, almost bored, and the same aura surrounded them, though noticeably weaker than during the Entrance Exam.
Aizawa glanced at them, an unreadable expression on his face before he stood, unzipping the sleeping bag.
Before they knew it, they were on the training grounds, huddled together to take a Quirk Assessment test.
'I'll take it from here,' Marvin said, taking control. 'We can figure out everything else later, but we have Full Cowling right now.'
'You said five percent last time,' Izuku commented. 'Are you sure that's enough to pass?'
'Enough to get us far and away from last place,' Marvin replied, lining up for the 50-meter dash.
One for All flowed through their body, and their face calmed, adopting an almost bored expression.
"GO."
They exploded off the start line, crossing the fifty meters in under three seconds. They slid to a stop several meters after the finish line, one leg extended and the other bent under them, one hand on the ground as they slowed down.
An almost unanimous shout of surprise came from the members of 1-A as Izuku stood slowly, One for All fading back into his body.
'Ok, I did not think that through,' Marvin gasped as their body suddenly felt stiff. They crouched in pain, their bones aching as they groaned.
'But we used One for All in the Exam!' Izuku exclaimed. 'Why are we suddenly so stiff?'
'No warmup time?' Marvin suggested. 'That, or we accidentally used more power than we thought. One for All is so much harder to use than I thought.'
'But you were using it easily in the Exam,' Izuku reminded him.
'True, but I was fighting then. I know how to fight,' Marvin replied, memories becoming less hazy. 'Maybe One for All reacts to our intentions? We wanted to move as fast as possible; maybe it added extra power to make us move faster?'
They moved on to the grip strength test, but both were anxious about using One for All again, not knowing if it could have unintended side effects.
'Let's just use our base strength; one test won't make us fail,' Marvin stated, feeling his fear and nervousness become determination.
They blinked as the machine beeped and stared at each other in confusion.
'218 KG.'
'I thought we weren't using One for All?' Izuku asked in confusion.
'We weren't,' Marvin replied slowly. 'It SHOULD have said 56 kg since we made sure not to activate the quirk.'
'Are you SURE you don't have an enhancement quirk?' Izuku asked as they stared at their hands.
'Even if I did, why would it affect YOUR body?' Marvin asked. 'Quirks are genetic things, aren't they? There's no record of a Quirk being linked to the mind.'
'There was no record of being able to pass on a Quirk either,' Izuku pointed out. 'Yet we have One for All.'
They went through the Standing Long Jump without much problem, taking a deep breath and jumping with as much force as possible.
And they cleared the box, at least, they thought they did. Where was it?
'Are we in the SKY?' Izuku screamed as they quickly began falling.
'Ok, I KNOW we didn't use One for All,' Marvin shouted internally. 'I triple-checked.'
They landed roughly, somehow not breaking any bones as they rolled and jumped up. It hurt to move, but nothing felt broken besides maybe their pride.
'How about you take control now?' Marvin suggested, stepping back. 'You can control your body easier.'
They were finally at the ball throw, and Marvin whistled a little at the 'Infinity' score Uraraka got. He decided not to mention that she could probably do it to someone; Izuku would probably bury the poor girl with questions.
Marvin jerked as Aizawa erased their Quirk, blinking as his memories suddenly rushed in faster than he could process.
He took control as Aizawa dragged them in, glaring at the homeroom teacher and their fearful expression washing from their face.
"Can't become a hero, huh?" Marvin growled, and Aizawa nearly blinked.
The same aura was around Izuku now, almost palpable in its nature. His eyes were dark, and Aizawa could feel the anger rolling off the boy.
He let Izuku go, telling him the same thing as in canon.
'Ok, that's it,' Marvin growled, grabbing the ball. 'I'm pushing us to our limit just to shut this guy up.'
He switched the ball to his left hand, his natural body's dominant hand, and charged up One for All. Anger thrummed in his veins, and Marvin wanted to make the ball disappear.
"SMASH," He boomed, accidentally saying it aloud.
The ball roared through the air, shredding the sound barrier as it moved.
'I may have gone a bit overboard,' Marvin thought sheepishly.
'A BIT?!' Izuku replied.
Izuku raised his hand, his pointer finger cracked and his hand shaking.
"I can still move, Sensei," Izuku told him, making a fist.
'This kid,' Aizawa thought.
"1023.8 meters," Aizawa smiled, showing Izuku the number.
'What the hell is that power?' Bakugo thought, balling his fists.
"DEKU, YOU BASTARD," Bakugo yelled, charging at him. "TELL ME HOW YOU DID-"
Marvin moved out of instinct, getting into a battle stance, his eyes dark as he calmed his breathing.
Aizawa stopped the boy in his tracks, his eyes glowing as he erased Bakugo's Quirk.
Izuku blinked as Kacchan struggled against the Capture weapon while Marvin stepped back from control, taking a deep breath to calm himself. Aizawa let Bakugo go. The teen stopped struggling and bowed his head as the weapon released him.
Izuku scurried away from Bakugo, his arm was still stiff, but the feeling quickly faded.
The other tests went smoothly, though Marvin showed disgust at Izuku's lack of flexibility.
'It's not THAT bad,' Izuku told him in exasperation.
'You can barely touch your toes,' Marvin replied. 'No wonder One for All makes us so stiff. We need to fix that; flexibility can make you stronger, which may reduce the negative effects of One for All.'
Aizawa showed the results of the whole exam, and Izuku sighed in relief as the screen showed him in sixth place.
"YOU LIED," Several members of Class 1-A shouted, causing Marvin to wince.
"Of course he did," Marvin told them, taking control. "What's the point of accepting people into a school and immediately kicking them out? It'd be a waste of time and resources."
He saw Momo give him a look, having said something similar to Uraraka. He smiled at her, and she gave a small smile back.
'I wonder how many we can befriend before the month ends?' Marvin questioned. 'Allies are always good to have. They can point out something you couldn't see by yourself.'
They walked slowly after heading to Recovery Girl, exhausted thanks to her Quirk.
'Quirks seem to affect us differently,' Marvin commented. 'One for All breaks whoever uses it, but if we switch, the other one doesn't feel the pain. But Recovery Girl's Quirk seems to affect us both equally.'
'It could be part of whatever put you in my head,' Izuku replied. 'Though, that raises the question. If I were hit with a mental manipulation Quirk or something like Midnight's Quirk, would it affect me, you, or both?'
'Depends on if the Quirk counts me as part of you, I would guess,' Marvin told him. 'I'm technically using your stamina, so it makes sense for me to be tired, but One For All also seems to have a mental aspect since it only affects whoever uses it, and not both of us.'
'So any Quirk that affects the body will hurt both since we're sharing, but those that affect the mind will only hurt one of us?' Izuku clarified. 'That's fascinating, but that also raises more questions. Eraserhead's Erasure unlocked your memories, or at least a few of them, meaning your memories are technically part of me.'
'If that's the case, then even if they find my body, we wouldn't be able to separate,' Marvin said, brows furrowed. 'If it's not true, my memories are still mine, but hidden by a Quirk affecting YOUR body, making them susceptible to Erasure.'
'So, a Quirk that transported you here but affected MY body, which means the target was me, not you,' Izuku frowned.
'That's one theory. It's also possible our entire perception of how this works is wrong,' Marvin reminded him. 'Because when I'm in control, your body is stronger, even without One for All. So there's also the chance that every time we switch, it's a different body with the same appearance connected via our minds.'
'A Quirk like that would be extremely complex since the mind is filled with things,' Izuku mumbled internally. 'And there's no telling what that could do with One for All since it also seems mental. Could that be why One for All is hurting us even at low power?'
Marvin's response was cut off as Iida put a hand on their shoulder, stopping them.
"Is your finger healed?" He asked Izuku.
Izuku grinned. "Yeah, thanks to Recovery Girl."
Iida nodded, falling into step with them. "I can't believe Aizawa Sensei would push us forward with a lie that's so unheroic."
"Maybe to simulate real life?" Marvin suggested, taking control for just a moment.
Iida looked at them curiously. "What do you mean by that?"
"Oh, because we ma-"
"HEY! You two," Uraraka yelled, running towards them. "Going to the station? Wait for me!"
"You're Deku, right?" Uraraka asked after introducing herself to Iida.
"I- uhh," Izuku replied. Marvin sighed and took control; by GOD, Izuku was terrible at talking sometimes.
"Izuku's my real name," Marvin said hesitantly. "But Ba- Kacchan calls me Deku to make fun of me."
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Uraraka exclaimed. "But Deku kinda sounds like Dekiru, or 'I can do it,' so I kinda like it."
'Hm, it's not bad,' Marvin commented. 'Dekiru sounds more heroic than Deku.'
"I'M DEKIRU," Izuku exclaimed, causing Marvin to snort.
"I thought you said it was an insult?" Iida asked.
"Deku was, but if it's turned into Dekiru, it's a compliment," Marvin grinned. "It's turning my humiliation into something that can be called a hero."
"It's like a Copernican Revolution," Izuku muttered.
'Yeah, you're a nerd,' Marvin commented. 'Even I took a second to understand that reference.'
'Is that a bad thing?' Izuku asked as they began to walk, Uraraka excitedly speaking.
'No, I'm a nerd too,' Marvin replied. 'Just in different areas.'
Some distance away from the trio, a spiky blond-haired teen glowered at Izuku.
'Whoever that is,' Bakugo scowled. 'It isn't Deku. That stupid nerd can't be intimidating if he tried.'
There had been a change in Izuku, starting with him suddenly gaining a Quirk, having control OVER said Quirk, and even having that aura around him. It didn't seem intentional, which just irritated Bakugo more. There was no way the nerd could be scary, especially when he didn't try.
But whoever it was, it seemed like Deku. They had just enough of his mannerisms, still stuttered and flushed when speaking and fanboyed over heroes. It was almost like two people: the nerd and whoever held that Quirk he used in the Exams.
'Stupid Deku couldn't have a Quirk,' Bakugo's scowl deepened. 'He has to be getting help somehow, be cheating or something.'
Chapter 3: A Small Change
'Hero training, huh?' Marvin asked as they walked in their hero costume.
'Combat training,' Izuku clarified.
Marvin stiffened and took a deep breath. Memories assaulted his mind, though Izuku wasn't affected.
He was holding a knife, advancing on a girl with shoulder-length light brown hair. He was smaller, even shorter than Izuku, but moved expertly.
The girl was easily parrying his strikes, and Marvin felt anger bubble in his chest. He wasn't weak or someone people could take lightly.
Marvin rushed forward, his anger fueling his strikes. He was faster, stronger, deadlier.
The girl was struggling now, having to use all her strength to parry Marvin's knife with hers. Her eyebrows were furrowed in concentration.
Marvin lashed out with his free hand, shattering the knife with his palm.
He gasped as his eyes shot open. He was back in Izuku's mind, watching All Might call the teams for the joint exercise.
'I swore Uraraka was the one paired with you in the manga,' Marvin muttered to Izuku as Momo approached them, having been paired together.
He shook off his memory, taking control from the stammering Izuku, who tried his best to avoid looking at Momo, or more accurately, her half-exposed chest.
"I wonder who our opponents will be?" He asked, taking a deep breath.
Momo tilted her head and watched Izuku go from a stuttering mess to calm and confident. He took another deep breath, and Momo saw something behind his eyes, almost like he'd done this before.
"Team D," She supplied as they began preparing for the exercise. "It's Bakugo and Uraraka."
Marvin blinked and bit his lip. "That's bad."
Momo tilted her head. "Why?"
Crap, he'd said that aloud. He had to think of an excuse.
"They're dangerous," Marvin replied, rubbing his face with one hand. "Bakugo will go for me, I'm sure of it. Uraraka is dangerous in close combat since her Quirk requires touch. If she touches you or anything you have on you, it gives her an advantage."
Momo frowned. "You're right, but there has to be a way to counter them, correct?"
Izuku and Marvin's minds whirled, the two quickly suggesting ideas to each other and throwing them out just as fast. Most would require time to set up, and they had to assume they didn't have that.
"What's your Quirk?" Marvin asked.
"I can create any non-organic substance from the lipids on my body," Momo answered. "As long as I know it's molecular structure."
Marvin nodded. "I'll take care of Bakugo. He's fast but predictable, and I can counter him if needed. How fast can you create something that works at long range?"
"It depends much on the size," Momo told him. "Maybe two minutes for anything with more than a single use."
"Are you good with any weapons?" Marvin asked, discarding the plan he had in mind.
"I am capable of using a bo staff," Momo said.
Marvin nodded. "You can use that to distract Uraraka. She doesn't seem to have enhanced durability, so a well-placed strike could disable her."
Izuku suggested something internally, and their eyes widened.
Marvin let Izuku take over, who quickly explained the plan, his analytical mind overriding his embarrassment for a while.
The exercise began, and Izuku and Momo walked in; Momo created small disks the color of the floor and let them fall to the ground with a clatter.
It wasn't long until they found Bakugo or heard him to put it better. He roared around the corner, his face aggressive and angry.
"Momo," Marvin exclaimed, taking control. "GO, I'll take him."
"Are you sure?" Momo asked, grabbing his hand and trying to pull him along.
Marvin nodded and tightened his hand slightly.
Momo took off, leaving Marvin alone with Bakugo.
"DEKU," He roared, booming over to Marvin with his explosions.
Bakugo raised his hand, ready to let off an explosion into Marvin's face before he suddenly found himself on his back, Marvin having grabbed his arm and slammed him into the ground.
Marvin ran into the hallway, back to where they'd entered from. He gripped the receiver Momo had given him, hoping Bakugo would be stupid enough to follow.
Just like Izuku thought, Bakugo flew into the hallway, hot on their trail. Marvin kept running until Bakugo was right behind him, explosion primed.
He pressed the button on the receiver, and Bakugo stumbled back, his hands and arms covered in the disks Momo had made.
"You rely on your Quirk too much," Marvin declared before punching Bakugo in the stomach.
Bakugo fell, the shock of having the disks on his hands enough to stop him from using his Quirk.
Marvin turned and ran to where he knew the bomb to be. Those disks wouldn't hold forever, but neither Izuku nor Marvin wanted them to.
They reached the room and saw Momo in a heated battle with Uraraka, who, as Marvin predicted, had made the rubble float to serve as protection.
They'd barely jumped into the room when Bakugo roared behind them. The disks didn't respond to the small explosions he made to move, so Bakugo considered them harmless.
Marvin turned away from Uraraka and Bakugo and pressed the receiver again. He squeezed his eyes shut as light filled the room, blinding anyone who looked at it.
Momo moved, wearing a pair of goggles that had protected her from the flares. She rushed up, securing the bomb and ending the exercise.
"THE HEROES HAVE SECURED THE BOMB," All Might boomed. "HEROES WIN."
'Phew, we won without broken bones,' Marvin told Izuku. 'I'd call that a complete positive.'
"DEKU," Bakugo roared. "HOW DARE YOU BEAT ME, YOU QUIRKLESS LOSER."
Marvin turned slowly, and Bakugo stepped back.
Izuku's eyes were dark, and the same dark aura was back. It was almost like a heartbeat as Deku stared at him, silently challenging Bakugo to continue.
Bakugo scowled. "GODDAMMIT," He roared, launching himself at Izuku. "ANSWER ME!"
He let off an explosion in Izuku's face, grinning as smoke covered the air.
"Why should I?" Marvin replied, and Bakugo's eyes widened.
Izuku held Bakugo's arm by the wrist, his grip almost like a python. Izuku looked utterly unharmed, only his hair looking a little windswept. The only thing on Izuku was a bored expression and that same dangerous aura.
"I beat you because I'm going to become a better hero than you can ever be," Marvin told Bakugo, letting go of his wrist. "You always said I couldn't be a hero. Well, I'm going to show you and everyone who doubted me. I won't just be Ahero; I'll be the best."
Bakugo's eyes widened even more before his features contorted, and his teeth bared as he snarled. Tiny explosions went off in his palms, but he couldn't raise his arms; something was pulling him back.
He looked down, seeing a cloth wrapped around his hands and arms.
Momo was staring at him through narrowed eyes, a weaker version of Aizawa's Capture weapon in her hands, the same weapon holding Bakugo at the moment.
"I believe the exercise is over," Momo said coldly, pulling on the Capture weapon a little.
Bakugo scoffed but stepped back, knowing this battle wasn't worth fighting.
He walked off as Momo let the Capture weapon fall to the ground, rubbing her hands.
'OK, we're not going to act like that wasn't awesome,' Marvin commented. 'Because that was totally awesome.'
Momo flushed a little. "Thank you, Midoriya."
'Fuck I said that aloud,' Marvin muttered, making sure to keep his mouth shut.
"I was just being honest," He smiled as he walked over. "How did you figure out how to make Aizawa Sensei's Capture weapon?"
"I attempted it a few times at home," Momo told him as they walked out. "He said it was simply steel alloy and carbon fibers, so I mixed the two until I could get something similar."
She frowned a little. "But I'm still unable to recreate its strength. Had Bakugo attempted to break it with any significant degree of force, he would have."
"Maybe there's another alloy inside that could increase its strength without reducing the range of motion?" Marvin suggested. "Maybe nickel or some other basic element?"
Momo nodded thoughtfully. "That could be it. Certain metals can be added to increase flexibility. I'll have to attempt it."
The two moved quickly back to where All Might was. The Pro Hero stood proudly, his signature smile on his face.
"EXCELLENT JOB, TEAM A," He boomed, and Marvin bit his tongue to hide a wince.
"Can anyone tell me who the MVP of the first round was?" All Might asked, looking over the students.
Iida raised his hand, and All Might called on him.
"I would say Yaoyorozu, sir," Iida declared. "Her Quirk allowed her to reduce Bakugo's movements, bypass Uraraka's Quirk, and secure the weapon. She also restrained Bakugo with her quick thinking and mimicking of Aizawa Sensei's Capture weapon."
All Might hesitated for a moment. "Yes, the MVP of the first round is Young Yaoyorozu."
Momo turned to Izuku, who seemed lost in thought. She touched his shoulder, causing him to jump in surprise.
"Midoriya?" She asked to the blinking Izuku. "How did you know that plan would work?"
Marvin snapped Izuku out of his stuttering, shaking off his own nervousness.
"Kacchan is too prideful not to follow me, especially if it seemed I bested him," He answered. "Uraraka wouldn't plan for us not to directly engage since her Quirk essentially forces her to be a close-range specialist. Those two factors made the plan work. I doubt it would for anyone else."
"But to understand your opponents so well in such little time," Momo commented. "How did you learn about them so quickly?"
"I've known Kacchan since we were kids," Marvin replied. "And I met Uraraka before the Entrance Exam and saw her use her Quirk. But it was still a gamble since Uraraka could have had some longe range option I was unaware of, which could've ruined the plan."
"But making a plan based solely on your knowledge is a valuable skill, Midoriya," Momo stated. "You shouldn't doubt your abilities."
Marvin bowed his head. "Thank you, Yaoyoruzu," He stated.
'OK, our part is over. But we could gain valuable information based on these matches,' Marvin told Izuku, letting the other boy take control.
'Iida and Kirishima versus Sero and Mineta?' He mentally raised an eyebrow. 'That's rather one-sided.'
'Huh? Why?' Izuku asked, staring at the screen.
'Kirishima's Quirk is capable of hardening his skin, making him almost impossible to damage and increasing his attack potency,' Marvin answered. 'Iida is a strategist and is very quick. Meanwhile, Sero has mobility, as does Mineta, but neither seems fast enough to catch up to Iida or strong enough to hurt Kirishima.'
'But Sero and Mineta have perfect Quirks for traps and immobilization,' Izuku argued. 'I heard Mintea saying he was the only one who didn't stick to those spheres on his head. If he can throw them close enough, it'll immobilize either. Sero also has a good Quirk, so combined, they could trap the villains and win that way.'
'But that would require accuracy or another trap laid on top of it for that to work,' Marvin stated. 'There's no guarantee they'd be able to catch Iida or Kirishima unless both are unaware of their surroundings. Besides, with Iida and Kirishima being the villains, there's little chance for Sero and Mineta to set a trap.'
The two snapped out of their argument as Momo tapped their shoulder. They jumped, flushing slightly as Momo stared, her head tilted slightly.
"You were mumbling," She told him.
Izuku flushed. "Oh- I- Was I? Sorry about that," He murmured, rubbing the back of his head.
"You really like studying Quirks, don't you?" She asked.
"Ye- Yeah, I do," Izuku replied. "Quirks are so amazing, and people can do so many things with them."
Momo observed him for a moment, smiling a little before nodding and turning back to the screen.
They watched as Sero managed to trap Kirishima, though the red-haired boy quickly broke free.
'The hardening doesn't affect Kirishima's entire body,' Izuku observed.
'That could be a weakness to exploit,' Marvin replied. 'Removing tape or Mineta's spheres from a soft area would be almost impossible without extreme pain, so if Sero or Mineta exploit that, they can take him out.'
He watched as Mineta instead chose to overwhelm Kirishima, throwing dozens of spheres until Kirishima toppled over, completely immobilized.
'Using the divide and conquer strategy against them, impressive,' Marvin muttered. 'If both had stayed together, then Sero and Mineta would have struggled to immobilize them as easily.'
Marvin face-palmed as Iida monologued, stepping on one of Mineta's spheres by accident before being tied up by Sero.
'I take back my strategist statement,' Marvin commented. 'The way they went about that is counterintuitive. If you had the fast one roam the halls, they might have taken at least one out, making it one-on-one instead of a two-on-one.'
'Kirishima was strong enough to fight off Sero, so if Iida had run off to beat Mineta while Kirishima protected the bomb, it would've ended differently,' He continued. 'What's the point of having a speed Quirk if you aren't going to use it?'
Izuku snapped out of his thoughts to realize most of the class was staring at him, expressions varying wildly from amusement to concern.
"Uh, hi?" Izuku said, feeling fear begin to creep up his veins.
Fear that immediately turned into strength and confidence.
"Do I have something on my face?" Marvin asked, looking around.
"Midoriya," Momo said slowly. "You were muttering again."
"Was your voice always like that?" Asui asked. "I'm pretty sure it was higher before, kero."
"Wait, what?" Izuku asked, blinking at her.
"Now it's back to normal," Asui blinked.
'Hold on, let me try something,' Marvin stated, taking control for a moment.
"Back to normal?" He asked, brows knit together.
"Oh, it's back again," Asui said. "Take a cough drop."
'Oh, crap. If I'm in control, it affects your voice,' Marvin told Izuku, handing back control.
Izuku cleared his throat. "I think I'm fine, uhh-"
"Call me Tsu," Tsu said.
"Uhm, OK, Tsu," Izuku said as the other rounds began.
'So me being in control causes a noticeable drop in your voice,' Marvin commented. 'That's odd. Maybe because I was in control for an extended period?'
'Could it be we're separating?' Izuku asked. 'Whenever you're in control, my strength increases dramatically. Maybe my body's adapting, and we'll end up separate?'
'Could be,' Marvin replied, staring at the rest of the matches. 'Or it could be that your body's taking on more of my physical traits. I'm trained in combat and have a rather deep voice for my age so that it might be the opposite. We could be joining more.'
They watched as Todoroki froze the building solid, giving his team a near-instant win.
'That was risky,' Marvin commented. 'Had either of his opponents not been touching the ground, he would've had to fight on slippery terrain, only making it worse for himself with his Quirk. Whoever this kid is, he doesn't seem to think things through.'
"I agree," Momo stated. "Such rampant lack of control could hurt someone if he were a hero."
'I really have to stop speaking out loud,' Marvin muttered internally.
He nodded. "He didn't even ask his teammate to scout the area," He replied, looking at Shoji. "Localized freezing would have been almost as quick and reduced the ineffectiveness risk."
The other round came, with Jiro and Kaminari going against Tokoyami and Tsu.
"She can hear through her earphone jacks?" Izuku mumbled, watching Jiro listen for footsteps.
"That's effective for stealth, but I don't know what his Quirk is," He muttered, looking at Kaminari. His question was answered as Kaminari let a bit of lightning loose in his palm.
'Lightning is an effective takedown tool,' Marvin muttered. 'He doesn't seem capable of aiming it, so he's a close ranger.'
"That's bad," Izuku replied. "That guy with Tsu seems to have an extremely long range, and it almost seems like he could take out both by himself."
"What would your plan be, Dekiru?" Uraraka asked, walking over to them.
"Get the long-range dude out first," Izuku replied immediately. "He's the biggest threat. He seems susceptible to light, so maybe that electricity guy can take him down. That leaves Tsu, and there's a chance that hand-to-hand combat would take her down."
"If I were on the villains' side," He continued. "I'd take out the guy with electricity since he'd be capable of hurting me and my teammate. If the girl can hear through the jacks on her ears, then maybe an overload of sound could overwhelm her, creating an opening to defeat her."
"Oh, woah," Uraraka laughed awkwardly. "I'm sure glad you're on our side, Dekiru."
"What? Of course I am," Izuku exclaimed. "I'm going to be the World's Greatest Hero."
"So you meant what you said back there?" Momo asked, slightly leaning down to his level.
"I- Of course," Izuku flushed, mentally pleading for Marvin to take control.
"I'm going to become just like All Might," Marvin grinned, making a fist. "And make sure everyone knows Deku's the name of a hero."
Momo smiled; Izuku's grin was infectious.
"Just make sure to clear your throat before so we can hear you," Momo replied, holding back a laugh as Izuku flushed.
'It is not that deep,' Marvin muttered internally.
'It's kind of deep,' Izuku replied.
'I thought we were supposed to be working together!' Marvin exclaimed. 'TRAITOR.'
Izuku snorted aloud at Marvin's comment. He was still struggling to keep up with everything sometimes, but moments like this reminded him he wasn't alone anymore.
