Past the outer barricades.
Past the nearest shoreline rocks.
Past old fishing paths normally hidden before midday.
Wooden docks stretched farther into view than anyone could remember.
Weathered homes standing near the edge of town suddenly looked brighter beneath unobstructed sunlight.
The winding approach road became clearly visible almost to the tree line.
Children gasped.
Someone whispered,
"…Look."
An elderly Harborwoman slowly covered her mouth.
"I can see the eastern cliffs."
A dockworker stared toward the sea.
"…I've worked here thirty years."
"I've never seen the water that clear."
Captain Avery turned slowly in place, taking in every familiar street now bathed in open light.
The oppressive curtain of mist no longer clung to the settlement.
For the first time in generations…
Far Harbor looked open.
It looked welcoming.
It looked free.
Faraday checked the instruments one final time.
"…All ten systems operating perfectly."
A Harbor mechanic laughed aloud.
"They're not just better."
"They're unbelievable."
Nick removed his fedora again, smiling toward Sico.
"You know…"
"I think the engineers earned another round of applause."
This time no one felt embarrassed.
Hands came together naturally.
Dockworkers.
Fishermen.
Republic soldiers.
Harbor mechanics.
Acadia engineers.
Ordinary townspeople.
The applause rolled across the waterfront, carried out over the sea.
Faraday looked almost overwhelmed.
"It wasn't just us."
He said quietly.
"It never was."
Sico looked across the transformed harbor, where humans and synths stood side by side beneath a sky that seemed wider than it had only hours before.
"A week ago," he said softly, "this was an idea shared around a table."
He watched children running farther along the cleared docks than they ever had before, their laughter echoing across water now visible beyond the old veil of mist.
"Today," he continued, "it's part of everyday life."
Captain Avery followed his gaze.
"And tomorrow…"
She smiled.
"…it'll simply be the way Far Harbor lives."
Around them, people lingered in the newly opened streets, not because they had work left to do, but because they wanted to enjoy a view their town had been denied for generations.
The Fog had not disappeared from the Island.
There was still much to reclaim.
Many roads remained hidden.
Many settlements still waited.
As the journey toward a new future had not begun with the activation of a machine, as it had begun with the decision to trust one another.
Everything that followed was simply proof that trust, when matched with patience, knowledge, and shared purpose, could reshape not only the landscape of the Island but also the lives of everyone who called it home.
