The council meeting ended faster than Nikita had thought it would. And that gave her time to go to the dungeons, again.
She had to figure out what the agenda was, and ever since she confirmed that Valentin and Haruki were, in fact, mates, she couldn't help the unnerving feeling of there being more than they could see just yet.
In the past week, since the torture, Haruki had been gaining his senses bit by bit.
Agust had not told Nikita to keep torturing the Lycan, but he also hadn't told her to free him. That was a balance that Nikita hadn't expected, even when each time she passed by the former king's dungeon, too.
She had made a conscious decision to keep her business with Haruki, just what brought her to the dungeons. She couldn't lean into the curiosity that was staring at her as to why Agust had left the king alive even after all these years.
