Episode(92) Companion Get!, Camilla
SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(92)
[It's not nice to trick people you know?]
What a joke, if this was not a trick then was she supposed to believe this nonsense?
[What the-]
Even when I spoke human being this woman still refused to understand.
Should I just disregard humanity and bark a few times?
[Let's think calmly, what do I gain by fooling you?]
The girl wanted to retort, a beauty alone in a dungeon with a guy. What would he not want?
Especially, he would ravage her with his huge thing and not let her sleep a night.
Her face blushed just thinking about it.
Lecherous bastard!
But then she thought a bit deeper, if it was just that would a person with the ability to revive someone truly just revive her for 'companionship?'
Sure, she was beautiful but it wasn't to the point of having someone used such an overpowered and likely costly ability just to warm the bed.
[That-]
She couldn't argue with his words at all.
[You're right]
Wait a minute, before all that something wasn't right.
Research into traits hadn't gotten far but one thing was clear from what was known.
Traits were abilities that went outside of the norm influencing phenomenon.
If magic was the ability to interact with the elements and control them through mana, traits were abilities that summoned a phenomena.
These abilities were carved into a person's soul from birth, this was what she knew.
Not everyone had a trait written inside their souls and even those that did had at most three.
Still, even having three traits carved into your soul was next to impossible even awakening these three traits would be a task worth several hundred lifetimes.
In their life, a person born with a trait would awaken one at birth. If they had more, they were lucky if they could even encounter the conditions for awakening the other two skills.
Then there was the strain brought by a trait. Having a trait was like being born with an extra arm or leg.
Although it had its advantages, it also had its disadvantages. Being, the soul was just a fragile wisp of energy.
Imagine having the power of not one phenomenon but, many. A storm, a hurricane or even an earthquake raging through your soul constantly.
It would be a blessing if you weren't stillborn, but you would most likely never make it past one year old.
And even if you did-
If too much pressure from traits had to be borne by the soul, it would be like a candle in the wind and that soul would face extinction every time a trait was used.
And even considering all that, if a person awakened more than one trait the remaining two would never be just as powerful.
If they awakened an S-rank trait, more than likely they would have several lower ones and never higher.
The first trait awakened was often said to be the highest, though she had never seen more than ten people with more than one trait this was indeed the case.
But this person claimed this revival was only one of his several traits and his tone sounded as if he didn't consider it all that great.
This could only mean the person before her, under his seemingly lanky and girly frame, had a soul so monstrously powerful that even the pressure from multiple traits caused no issue at all.
Terrifying!
The only persons she ever knew to actually hold two or more traits were saints and heroes, even sages could at most wield a single trait.
Any more would be a severe drain on their soul.
Why did this person seem as if he had no limits.
If that was the case then he was beyond human! Maybe he wasn't even human to begin with!
Gulp!
[Wha-What are you!?]
???
I was puzzled.
First this woman was denying the possibility of my several abilities but now she seemed terrified as if she had witnessed the birth of a monster.
[What kind of question are you even asking?]
Am I supposed to say I'm a dog?
Was this a trick question?
Nagisa had absolutely no idea what this woman was thinking!
[Are you human?]
Wow!
The bafflement just increased several fold.
Do I not look human?
Sure, he had a third leg but not a fourth or fifth. Seriously, what kind of question was this!?
How am I supposed to even answer?
His confusion turned to annoyance.
[Hah-]
This was nonsense!
[First you call me a girl, now you're saying I'm a pig!?]
No, I didn't say that much.
[You wanna start something don't you?]
But, the girl was still shocked.
A normal human being with more than one trait?
And judging by his manner of speaking he had more than the usual three meaning he could easily hold traits without suffering any kind of backlash.
But soon, she was more intrigued and began to circle him while glancing over his body.
[How many traits do you have?]
What?
How did her mood swing so quickly!?
Was this why gramps said I should never try to understand women?
Gramps, I understand it now!
[I-In total I should have more than three]
Indeed! Just as she thought.
Nagisa frowned.
Okay, she is weird!
[It's fine being curious but please stop looking at me with those weird sparkly eyes!]
It felt more like she had discovered a strange new creature than a human being.
[I'm begging you, please look at me like a human!]
Still, for a human being and not even a hero to have that many traits. This guy was definitely something.
Yes, that thing was definitely something-
No!
Stop thinking about it girl!
Shaking away the image of a sturdy rod that kept popping up in her mind, she sighed when she calmed down.
[You are amazing, I don't even have a single trait of my own]
If she had, then maybe she could have saved her family.
A saint that didn't even have a trait, she was a complete and utter failure.
She could not reverse time, but she could not help but think that if she had a single trait. Even if it was a low grade useless one she could have saved her family.
She was jealous.
Perhaps if I had a trait like revival I could bring them back as we-
Wait, revival?
The girl thought repeating the words before glancing up at Nagisa.
[What? Why are you looking at me like that?]
Again, her mood was fluctuating.
This girl is definitely having strange thoughts.
[...]
How could she say it? Just ask?
[Say something already!]
But, it was too rude of her to ask her savior for a favor not even knowing whether she could pay it back.
Still, she clenched her fist. She had to try.
Just as Nagisa felt the silence had gotten weird, she arched her back and shouted in a pleading tone.
[Please revive my family sir!]
Such a kind benefactor, there was no way he would refu-
[No]
[So quick!]
She was now baffled.
He did he reject?
No, it made sense that he rejected when she hadn't even done a thing for him yet and she had the gall to ask for a favor.
But, the rejection was too quick it left her mind reeling with questions!
[P-Please, I'll do anything you want just please!]
Watching as the girl got to her knees, I scratched my head.
Sigh*
[Alright, calm down]
I placed a hand on her shoulder and knelt while looking into her eyes.
[Look, it's not that I find your request bothersome-]
It was, it felt like spending a million to buy a slave and then hearing that she had family that was in billions in debt and needed saving urgently.
But, that wasn't the reason he rejected.
[By my calculations, you should have been in this dungeon for a pretty long time. Probably a few decades or longer right?]
The girl thought about it then nodded.
But what did this have to do with her request?
[Well, my ability allows me to supplement a still lingering soul with life energy and restore its physical vessel while making adjustments as I see fit]
I could still create a pseudo soul using magic just like I did with the sword and over time as that soul builds memories it would become a complete soul.
But that would no longer be the parents she knew.
[I-I was revived so they might still...]
Unable to give up, she could only tremblingly cling to the hope that since she was alright then so was her family.
But, it was a different case.
[The only reason I managed to revive your soul was because the dungeon trapped your soul, slowly eating away at it instead of instantly devouring it all at once]
Likely, she would be transformed into a monster before long hunting adventures endlessly in this dungeon forever.
But I had caught her soul and revived it before that could happen.
She also knew, people who died in dungeons had their souls slowly whittled away until they became monsters transformed by the dungeons power.
Her soul was trapped by the dungeon, but also because of this she was saved.
Outside the dungeon however, who could say what happened?
Would a soul stubbornly attach itself to their body or vanish all at once?
I decided to explain it properly.
[If a soul vanishes from the body, then I can only revive the body and implant a fake soul ultimately that person when revived would not be the original]
The girl felt as if her entire world collapsed at those words.
[...no]
Sigh*
Making such an expression.
Recalling how he felt when Maya had died, it was scary, lonely and most of all the world felt empty.
Am I becoming soft?
[Well, don't fret]
Who knew what the future held.
[Perhaps one of your family members decided to hold on and preserved their soul just to watch over you]
In that case, even if it was a fragment then he could revive them.
Hearing this, life seemed to return to the girls eyes and she jumped in excitement.
[Let's do it!!]
Right, it was no time to be losing steam now!
[That's the spirit!]
I stretched out my hand.
[By the way, I am Nagisa]
The girl glanced at the hand stretched out to her, for some reason it felt as if the person before her would become a lifelong partner.
She grinned.
