"Well, I think you already understand the general idea, don't you?" I asked. "About how I'm supposed to defeat the Seven Deadly Sins that are eventually going to come after me."
"Hmm... I see..." she murmured quietly. "So thou desirest to learn how to defeat them. Is that truly what thou seekest?"
She looked at me with those crimson eyes of hers.
It wasn't an angry look. It wasn't even particularly cold. If anything, it felt like she was looking at me the same way someone would look at a person who had just told a joke that wasn't funny enough to deserve a laugh. There was amusement there somewhere, but there was also something else. Something that made me feel like she already knew where this conversation was going long before I had even opened my mouth.
"Indeed, such is the case," she said. "Yet thou hast already discerned the answer to that question, hast thou not?"
She smiled faintly.
"So it must be that way, then?" I said.
"Indeed, it would appear so," she said softly.
