Chapter 3 - Chapter 2 - A Second Chance

The red screen stayed still for a bit. A single line was displayed on it.

[Analysis in process]

'Analysis? What is it analyzing?'

Owen tried to close his status window, but nothing happened.

A second later, the screen finally turned blue.

'Oh... Is that it? It just turned bl-'

Then red again.

'...So back to red I gu-'

Then blue again.

'...'

The screen kept shifting from blue to red faster, and faster, and faster.

Soon, the two colors blended together due to how quickly they were changing.

The window finally turned purple.

The spectacle of colors left him speechless.

He had no idea what was happening.

To be fair, no one would.

The purple screen remained completely blank.

Five seconds passed.

The window started moving again, but it displayed an error message.

Or at least, something that looked like an error message. It wasn't quite readable.

The text flickered violently, its characters distorting as though the program itself was breaking apart.

Owen understood that something was wrong with this screen, but he didn't know what.

The show went on for a few seconds, before the glitching screen vanished into a thin line, like an old TV being shut down.

Another screen appeared.

Unlike the others, it had a pitch-black background covered in green text.

'That's a...Windows Command Prompt, right?'

Owen blinked.

'Did someone hack into the Gods' System? No, is it my system specifically?'

The interface was painfully familiar.

After years of working as a programmer back on Earth, he had seen this exact screen thousands of times.

He could only speculate about what was unfolding in front of him.

For now, he just decided to wait.

To his surprise, the show was far from over.

Lines of code began racing across the screen, new windows appeared and disappeared every second.

Some were tiny, others were large. They appeared in different sizes.

He reached towards one of them out of curiosity, but his hands passed right through it.

He waited patiently until all the screens disappeared at the same time.

Only the original black screen was left.

A green loading bar was sitting in the middle of it, slowly filling up as time went by.

Once the loading bar filled up, the screen went blank.

A few seconds later, a final message appeared.

[Access Granted]

Owen frowned.

The screen vanished into thin air, and he heard the system voice again.

'What is happening exactly?'

He was thoroughly confused.

'Wasn't the tutorial already over?'

This was definitely not what he had expected from being transmigrated.

Normally, protagonists were summoned into a royal castle, hailed as heroes whose destiny was to defeat the demon king.

They received powerful skills, legendary items, and enough plot armor to survive anything.

Meanwhile, he had been thrown into a crappy room, given a class he didn't want, and something had just hacked into his status window.

But again, he wasn't given much time to think about it.

Another status window appeared in front of him, this time slightly different from before.

His status window was almost identical to before.

To his surprise, his attributes had doubled for some reason.

Was it because of the System glitch? Or was the System compensating him for its mistake?

His gaze turned to the top of the status window.

[Class: Seducer]

He still had his class, but one thing was certain.

He had been given a second chance.

Just like the first time, a screen popped up with the exact same choices as before.

-- -- --

[1 Star Classes] : [Warrior] [Mage] [Archer]

[2 Stars Classes] : [Assassin] [Healer] [Hunter]

[3 Stars Classes] : [Berserker] [Arcanist] [Ninja]

[4 Stars Classes] : [Paladin] [Necromancer] [Gunner]

[Special Classes] : [Engineer] [Seducer] [Tactician]

-- -- --

Owen's eyes immediately landed on [Necromancer].

He was about to throw himself on the opportunity, but he hesitated.

The System had already tricked him once, and it could happen again.

This time however, the classes came with descriptions, so he carefully read through all of them before making his choice.

[Warrior [1 Star]

A courageous fighter who makes use of his well-developed muscles to slam his Greatsword into his enemies...]

'No, this one seems to be all strength and nothing else...'

[Mage [1 Star]

A mage excels at casting his spell by absorbing mana from his surroundings. His attacks take longer to conjure, but their power is greatly increased...]

'I feel like I would die before even casting my spell...'

.

.

.

[Necromancer [4 Stars]

A wicked mage despised by everyone for his black magic. He is able to summon a swarm of undead creatures and give them orders. He is cursed by the God of Death who took possession of his soul...]

Owen's face darkened.

"Absolutely not."

The words escaped his mouth before he realized it.

Selling his soul was already enough of a dealbreaker, but the fact that everyone apparently hated Necromancers only made it worse.

[Gunner [4 Stars]

He is well-known for his swiftness and his long-ranged weapon. He can shoot his enemies from far away with his flintlock imbued in mana...]

'I kinda guessed this one...'

Unfortunately, it wasn't a compliment.

[Engineer [Special]

A talented craftsman who can repair any weapon no matter how broken it is. His vast knowledge about weapons almost makes him a master at his work...]

'...That's just a Blacksmith!'

Owen rubbed his temples, disappointment showing on his face.

Every class was somewhat worse than the last, to a painful degree.

None of them were as good as the [Seducer] class, which he ironically considered the worst just moments ago.

'Please tell me the last one is a good one...'

He opened the final description.

[Tactician [Special]

A cold-blooded and calculating strategist who uses all of his brain capacity to get the best results at any time. He is respected on the battlefield for finding the weaknesses of his enemies and giving absolute orders to his soldiers. His sole presence is enough to boost his troop's morale and he grows stronger with each of his soldiers' victories.]

His eyes lit up.

Finally.

A class that wasn't terrible.

In fact, it was the best class so far, the only one close enough to compare with the [Seducer] class.

A ferocious debate took place in his mind, weighing the pros and cons of both classes.

The two classes were objectively good.

While both seemed to be support classes, one focused on leadership and strategy, while the other focused on trickery and manipulation.

The two matched almost perfectly. If combined, they would create something truly terrifying.

But he could only choose one.

Still, picking the [Seducer] class was the best move for Owen. He already knew the three skills he would get.

He couldn't risk choosing the [Tactician] class, especially when all the other classes were as bad as they could be.

Someone might even think it was done on purpose.

He made his decision quickly this time.

"System, I choose the [Seducer] class!"

"...What?"

Owen stared blankly ahead.

Surely he had misheard.

"System, I choose the [Seducer] class!"

It was the same answer again.

Again.

Again.

And again.

No matter how many times he tried, the answer never changed.

After a few more tries, Owen finally gave up.

He let out a deep and long sigh.

"Forget about it..."

His expression turned sour. He was slowly losing his patience.

The System was clearly broken, and he didn't want to waste any more time thinking about it.

"System, give me the [Tactician] class."

"Yeah yeah, just give it to me..."

With a defeated look, Owen received his class successfully this time.

At least the System didn't give him the wrong one again.

That alone was enough for him. Besides, after reading its description, he was relieved he hadn't selected the [Necromancer] class.

"Now, let's see what I got this time."

He opened his status window.
