Murphy, in a state of freefall, first crashed into the awning of a street-side house, then spun and hit the ground during this buffer. He should be thankful he wasn't flying too high and that his relentless training had made his wings strong enough; otherwise, the impact alone would have been a major issue he couldn't ignore.
But the ancient memories abruptly unfolded before him, with his mind being tugged back and forth between the images, making it very difficult to control his body.
He struggled to stand up but then heard the sharp halting sound of the walking machine stopping abruptly beside him, followed by Captain Paula's frantic voice speaking into his ear:
