The place where Layton was mining wasn't far from where they had set up their tent, so they arrived quickly.
When they arrived, he indeed saw a tunnel entrance, and Layton entered without any hesitation.
The tunnel continued downwards for a longer time before he finally saw a wider area which had some machines that were digging and carrying energy crystals.
Just as he expected, the wider area, which hasn't been thoroughly dug by the machines, actually looks nice because he could still see some parts of the purple energy crystals around the tunnel, even above their heads, so it looks nice.
Unfortunately, the long tunnel that they had walked through a while ago was already empty and was only dirt, so he only saw the purple crystals around the walls of the wider tunnel where the machines were still busy.
