Seeing his son's life was on the line, Eagel carefully sat down across from the infamous woman who turned the Underworld upside down. He glanced at his son, staring fearfully at him with a blade to his neck. Then, he looked at the...
....
'Is that cat standing on two feet?' He stared incredulously at the black cat, standing atop three of his bodyguards, all neatly stacked in a pile.
What was odd were the lack of wounds on them. But their faces were covered in powder. Immediately, he assumed they had partaken in some of his stash of narcotics.
In reality? While breaking into the house, Neo and Shade had managed to shock Ryuko (Yin) by throwing powdered Fentanyl in the guards' faces. When asked by Ryuko where they even got it from, they both pointed to a stash Eagel Winchester had tucked away in the basement. Apparently finding it during their sweep of the manor.
Hence, the pretty much dead guards laying in a pile nearby.
"As you can see, the situation is quite dire for you, Mister Winchester." Ryuko smoothly ignored the slightly odd scene and talked like nothing weird had happened.
Eagel, trying to maintain his cool, had taken a seat in his free office chair and stared at the redhead.
"I should have guessed you would make a move soon after the Atlesians were dealt with." He spoke calmly, folding his hand over his fist as he stared into her golden eyes.
"But do you really think this aporoach won't backfire later? I have resources.. the kind the other gangs around Vale would use to turn against you. I am not helpless here. You wouldn't piss off Vale's ruling body by killing me, nor would you make a true enemy out of me by killing my son. This is a threat. And not a very good one."
Ryuko tilted her head, lips curving upward in amusement.
"In a way, you're right. To be honest, though? Mister Cardin here attempted to attack us. So we merely immobilized him and brought him here so we could have our chat uninterrupted." Ryuko clarified.
"I am here to make my position clear. Vale's Underworld is mine. Your moves taken since the war's completion have not gone unnoticed. But let me make this clear to you. First and foremost, you do not have the leeway with the gangs you think you do." She stated, standing up and spinning the Malorian pistol in her right hand as she walked up to Eagel.
"The Hatters are aligned with me. As are the Xiong and Spider assets. The White Fang won't even spit in your direction and the Dragonslayers? Too small a group to actually disrupt me, and that's if you managed to sway the mixed race gang to your side." She stepped on his chair to prevent him from moving away.
"There's always Mercenaries.. you should know of the Branwen, no?" He asked, his back pushed against the back of his chair.
"Hmhmh~ And you think they'll want to jump into another Underworld mess? Shooting criminals labeled as terrorists for working with the Mythic Grimm is easy. Nobody bats an eye when you shoot those traitors down. But against regular people? People who worked together with Huntsmen? With the law? Not one week ago? Branwen PMC won't want that bad publicity. So in terms of forces available to us? I have you beat by a wide margin~."
Eagel grimaced, feeling a trickle of cold sweat beading down his neck and back. He could have utilized Chrollo, if they hadn't pulled out of Vale. But she was right. All he currently had were some businesses and weak ties to the Hatters and Xiong family's previous boss.
"Fret not though!" Suddenly, she smiled and stepped off the leg of his chair.
"You won't be the next Kingpin. But a colleague? An asset of the next Kingpin? That's not so bad either. You can keep your territory and businesses. I'll even give you a few incentives if you play ball. But only if you scratch my back too."
Eagel let out a tired sigh. Controlling the Valean Underworld was no longer in reach but having connections to a network he could use to further his career as a Councilman was definitely appealing. But there was one question left in his mind.
"Will you be offering this deal to the other Councilmen as well? The ones with hands as dirty or.. even dirtier than mine?" He asked cautiously.
Ryuko's smile sharpened fractionally.
"Not quite. You have the skills and resources required to cooperate. The others? One will be replaced. The other two will have the lengths of their leashes shortened. If you catch my meaning~" She winked, tongue sticking out playfully.
'Kilroy's going to die and the rest she'll have by the balls then. She's going to help me build influence within the council, in exchange for throwing me some things to sweep under the rug or expedite. That's what I would've done..' Eagel slowly nodded, accepting the deal.
"I'd be happy to cooperate then, Miss Ryuko."
In the next few days, Vale had begun to change. And in ways that even the public had noticed.

The cops just released a statement about that chase that happened a week ago. The drivers were part of a huge Bandit nation from Mantle. The Beormir 'tribe' have been around for over two hundred years, operating across Remnant on the frontiers. They deliberately targeted Branwen PMC's branch in Vale and were partially apprehended by one new Huntress, Yin Branwen. While the other two trucks had been destroyed by one masked and hooded assailant with a hammer.
My sources tell me the Beormir have been at war with the other bandit 'tribes' of Mistral and Vacuo for decades. They suffered a catastrophic loss in Mistral, thanks to the Branwen.
A revenge shot? Seems likely. Stay tuned for updates.
EDIT: It's been revealed in the days during what is now known as 'The Underworld War' that the Beormir were brought in by the Atlesian mob to bolster their forces in their attempted take-over of Vale's criminal scene.

I was IN the damn traffic when the rockets started flying. I swear to the Gods I was preparing to write my damn will when I saw that Yin girl smack one of them up away from the cars (and herself too) before JUMPING ON THE ROCKETS like she was parkouring. My girlfriend got mad at me later because I complimented her legs :(
Either way, we owe her for saving our asses from those psychos.

'Save' my ass! That girl endangered us all when she decided to run after the terrorists wielding rocket launchers! They had machine guns for fucks sake. Sprayed down a few cars trying to put that girl down and guess what? 14 people are critically injured with 2 dead.
Yeah, I'll save my fucking thanks. When will we hold these reckless Huntsmen responsible and put them in jail with the rest of those power hungry lunatics? I bet you anything that masked one is her accomplice.

Maybe instead of blaming the girl trying to stop the terrorists, you blame the guys shooting up a busy street and highway? Jeez..
Though I do actually wonder where that masked one came from...

The masked one and Yin have different motives. Masked girl wanted the Beormir dead for sure. I saw leaks of the bodies smeared on the road and smashed to pulp in those fancy SUVs. While Yin took them in alive and tried to stop the bullets and rockets when she could. My opinion? The masked girl has a vendetta against the Beormir.
I say fuck the Beormir. Those guys are savage assholes who should've been put in the ground centuries ago.

Practically half of Remnant saw the stream @StinkyFard posted on ScrollTube today but this is so we can all talk about the incident instead of crowding the general channels.
As for what my sources have told me? This is the beginning of what will VERY likely be a short war. For those not living in Vale, every year there's a gang dispute between the ruling big gangs. Wunderland, (AKA: The Hatters, on account of their leader being iconic and the whole gang wearing hats) the Mistralian families, the Dragonslayers, the Executors and the Atlesians all wage war over territory.
This year was different. As we all know, the Grimm is everyone's enemy. Faunus, Human, it doesn't matter. We kill them with extreme prejudice. That goes doubly so for the Mythic Class Grimm entities. It was one such entity that @StinkyFard captured working together with the Atlesians on stream.
As such, as of July 6th at 09:06AM, Councilor Ozpin announced the Atlesian mob enemies to humanity for allying with the enemy and dispatched Huntsmen kill squads to wipe out the Atlesian mob within Vale.
EDIT: As of right now, July 10th 2076, it is unknown what exactly caused the earthquake or lightshow people saw toward Mountain Glenn. What is known, is that the Vale Police, Huntsmen and Valean gangs worked together to wipe out the traitors to Humanity.
EDIT 2: We officially have news that one of the Mythic Class Grimm has been slain. The slayers are currently unknown and there have been sightings of other Mythic Class Grimm moving towards the Blightlands since the killing of said Mythic Class Grimm. No, we do not yet know which Grimm it was.

Guys, my cousin works as a guard on the wall around Vale. They were all ordered to keep quiet but he did tell me it looked like a giant Grimm-wolf was the one to die. It was hard to tell though, due to the ruined settlement being 4 kilos away.

Has anyone else noticed things have been weirdly calm? Since the Underworld War I mean. Not like.. in the way it gets calm after a war. I mean like, the gangs and stuff haven't been doing their usual thing? Idk maybe I'm overthinking things?

Don't tease the poor boy. I will admit though, she's right to be impressed. Not many noticed the change yet. Allow me to go on record here. The Underworld in Vale finally has someone worthy enough to wear its crown. For everyone living their day to day lives? Expect to be harrassed less by the gangs. I intend to hold the leash on my Kingdom quite tight.
But please. Do not mistake the pull back for thinking you can poke your nose into my Kingdom. I'd hate to make an example out of anyone so soon.

I think you may be getting in over your head here. Operating within the shadow of a Kingdom like you are. You should play your cards carefully. There is only room for two on this chessboard.

Aww.. but you and the BlackQueen have been playing on the board for so long without a winner. It's time to let others take a turn.

[AN: Sorry this took so long. Work's been keeping me very busy lately. And here's some mildly unpleasant news too. I'll be taking a small break from this. A pause until December so I can focus on Ruin Princess and the ZZZ chaps. Also so I can solidify my plans for what Yin will do in Atlas. I've had certain ideas and a mostly stable foundation of what will happen but I need to keep brainstorming there. So yeah, expect Dragon's Heart to return in 2 months. Thank you for your patience!]
