Chapter 11 - Oops, uh…Plus Ultra?

(3rds person)

A white paw with opposable thumbs lifted a small porcelain cup of tea, pinky finger out and all as he took a sip.

He, being some sort of large rodent or small polar bear, wearing a well pressed suit and observing the many screens showing contestants fighting their way through the two exam sites.

Vlad King, the crimson clad hero that had overseen the writing exam, was the first among the faculty to comment on their performance so far.

" Strong but uncontrolled or mediocre fire power with decent utility are the two catagories most of them fall under. Overall the crop looks promising this year."

"While I have to agree," Nezu started, his paws still clasped sophisticatedly on his desk.

" We have a few in a league of their own do we not?" He brought the other staffs attention to a screen deep into one of the mock city battle arenas.

The city block the camera could observe was flush with craters, scrap metal and circuitry in heaps in their centers as all that was left of Kastuki Bakugo's carnage. Even now he was propelling himself to the next target, screaming obscenities as he prepared to unleash artillery fire from his bare hands.

Nezu pointed directly at the destruction caused, " While this young man is at the number two spot for villain points, he's taken down nearly three buildings in collateral damage and hasn't a care in the world for other examinees in his way."

The mouse-bear(?) lowered his tone.

"Entirely too volatile to let roam without proper guidance, he would be a public safety hazard." The rest could only nod. Everyone here had seen his rage and recklessness first hand.

"However saying there isn't incredible talent there would be flat out fabrication, he's not the one I'm most concerned about." He gestured to the the screen showing the eastern side of the same city.

" Young Martinez…

He's in the number one spot, but no where on his face is he actually trying . He's just having fun. He's like a kid in a bounce house.

He's not angry like young Bakugo, he's genuinely happy and enjoying himself."

Before the rest could question it, the principle turned the volume up on that particular screen.

All they could hear over the crunching of pavement and falling of metal scrap heaps in the background?

A laughter full of pure unadulterated happiness.

And at a speed that caused the recording cameras to have to be slowed to catch.

'THIS FEELS FUCKING AWESOME TO BE ABLE TO REALLY USE THE SANDY AGAIN!'

The fun of it. Rushing through scrub level enemies and picking them apart. It reminds me of good old days with Lucy and the squad rushing maelstrom compounds. The thought nearly made me cry.

But I've learned over the years it's better to cherish those memories, and love the joy contained in them. Just like how mom drove me forward. Try and not let the pain steer me this time, but the love they imparted me with.

Just keep running.

I will keep running, right into a future where no one I love has to suffer.

Just watch me everyone. From wherever you are.

With the apogee overclocked to its maximum, I dug the balls of my feet into the ground with a grin.

'It's ok to be special here, and I always was, always will be.'

My world snapped into a blue green slo-mo, birds wings barely budged, other contestants? Barely even moving to my perception. The bots might as well have been statues.

My thermal knuckles were still burning higher than most furnaces so when I passed by bots with a thousand hundred degree fist bump it felt like I punched water how fast they turned to molten metal.

When that stopped being as satisfying I just started trying shit at super speed. Blitzing behind a tree pointer I wrapped my arms as far around its chassis as I could reach and heaved backwards, suplexing the damn thing and crushing its head like a can of beer.

Keeping the momentum going I grabbed a one pointer stuck in slo mo and began building momentum with it like a discus, before letting my sandy fade out for a moment so I could see the poor bastard crash into a two pointer at real speed. The two shattered into fragments against one another, barreling and nearly catching a third bot in the tumble.

Let's mix it up a bit!

Advanced projectile launchers popped from my forearms, lets see how good the targeting on these Kiroshis really is!

I began rapid firing the little green soon to be scrap heaps, they turned into sparking fireballs immediately before either imploding or sparking into a ball of flames. Depends on if they got hit with an EMP or incendiary, I wasn't being picky.

Every shot hit its target as I cleared a whole city blocks worth of bots in my sprint. My points were somewhat in the 80s ballpark, I stopped counting a while back.

Soon enough I'd have cleared out this whole corner pretty much, before anybody else eve-

*Whir whir, THUD*

Got here.

A massive, and I mean fucking massive robot that stood nearly 7 stories was treading its big metal ass down the road I was currently causing havoc on.

"DAMN CHOOM, WHY THE FUCK IS IT THAT BIG?!" Unfortunately I was the only person in about a two block radius so my question went on deaf ears.

Wait a minute.

Cackling laughter spilled from me, even being looked down upon by the building sized robot.

"That's what she said." Totally what bex would've added.

She loved crazy so why don't I have some fun in her honor?

And I was off like a bullet. The already large and heavy zero pointer looked as if it couldn't move while I had the sandy on, so I just unloaded on it.

The incendiary rounds lit up the massive green war machine, I kept reloading and firing. Starting to get hungry though, keeping the sandy up like this.

The massive frame of the bot was scorched in most areas and those that got particularly lit up had holes melted into em. Perfect.

I hopped off the throttle of my sandy for a second to refresh, In that second of respite, as if waiting for its chance it swung its massive arm down to pulverize me.

Even with the sandy my legs were still holding a mix of Jenkins tendons and second ankle implants, my burst speed allowed me to dart backwards out of its range no sweat.

Just too slow in all honesty, might as well have fun with it.

If explosion boy can let loose so can I.

Instead of flaming projectile launchers or flaming knuckle dusters my arms and legs become lit with green as all four limbs were now sheaths for incredibly sharp blades.

I flipped my now refreshed apogee back on, ignoring the growing hunger and lurched up the giants arm, diving head first into the opening one of my incendiary shots had made.

All four blades sprang forth once I was in the circuitry, carving through the mechanical ribcage and leaving shredded machinery in my wake. Up or down didn't matter, there was enough metal to cut for as long as I felt like.

From elbows to kneecaps I practically danced through the robots innards, my joyous laughter was impossible to stop. This was just too damn fun.

After carving multiple tunnels through all of the major motor sections I pinpointed the spot with highest temp output. If that's where it's the hottest it's probably where either a major engine or processor is located. A little tacky for them to put in the head though.

Regardless, my fun was had and it was time for the big guy to get put down already.

One of my leg blades was traded for a shotgun sole, blasting the innards again and giving me momentum with my jump to carve my way up the top.

My bladed forearm punched through its chrome dome first and I pulled myself through the opening it made.

Wires and nodes were sparking and exposed from the damage my intrusion made, I began climbing and tearing through the hull, searching for something a little less superficial to break and finish the big guy off.

After a few seconds of carving deeper into the metal "skull" of the bot a cluster of panels, motherboards and thick wiring became visible.

There it is. Some sort of processor seeing by the structure even though I guess I broke its cooling tank earlier because water is spilled on the machinery all around it.

Let's make it memorable then shall we? It's been years since I last jumped through a fire.

I lined up my arm cannon and let her rip in real time, slipping into sandy speed and sprinting past my own projectile, slashing a hole out of the top hull and jumping toward the opening.

My round hit at the same time. Imploding the whole massive metal head and sending my armor cased body flying through the air.

Damn I'm starving, but I just can't help laughing.

Letting loose like this makes me think about my best times. Causing mayhem through the city with my found family. I missed the whole rush of it.

Behind me the colossal green bot heaved on its own joints, crushing them and tumbling into a heap taking up the whole width of the street.

And yeah having the exam in the bag is a plus one too I guess.

I don't think I went overboard or anything.

The rest of the test time is brief, maybe a minute and half max. I'm pretty positive eighty points should land me comfortably in the top five, plus the whole zero pointer thing. So point padding would be cool but…

I'd rather spend the time observing the quirks of the other contestants honestly. I wonder how many I can figure out before the clock runs dry.

With a flash I disappeared from the wreck and watched as bomb boy continued his rampage, a green haired chick that was throwing bots around with her damn tongue of all things and a few more interesting contestants smashed through the remaining bots.

Sandy speed is awesome with these eyes, I saw everything from the ground level in high resolution slo-mo pretty much. Had to keep it to bursts of speed now though, my stomach felt like it could kiss my spine any moment at now.

I let the sandy fizzle out and fade away the last thirty seconds as I kinda just walked around and analyzed about the two most curious powers in this section. The pomeranian and the chicken head.

So far, what I've gathered about the pomeranians quirk are two things; explosions only can come from his hands, the palms of them. And his sweat isn't sweat. I could see the weird consistency of it when I zoomed in. It'd make sense to be some kind of explosive chemical.

How the hell does he spark the explosions though? What's the fuse?

Whatever I'll just ask em later, assuming he doesn't try to bite me.

The one I was even more curious about? I was watching him pummel a two pointer into bits with some sort of bird demon thing coming from his abdomen.

He saw me watching him but was a bit preoccupied trying to get as many last second points as possible. Bird brain just turned and ran to the nearest bot ignoring me and using two shadowy claws to rake through its hull.

So he directs it yeah, but is it sentient anyway? I swore I heard it screech a battle cry when it attacked, meanwhile bird brain himself was still scowling. Can it think seperate from him? Wait could it seperate from him? Maybe fuse back into him like some kind of power up?

Quirks are really fucking awesome, I only wish I could've seen anti grav girls power in action again. I'm pretty positive I'm fast enough, but seeing this type of fire power made me realize I still got a ways to go.

The buzzer blared over the loud speakers and Present Mic was unfortunately the one to make the announcement.

"THATS IT FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAM PEEPS! IF YOU NEED EM GET BACK OVER HERE FOR MEDICAL EVALUATIONS PRRRRRRRRRONTO!"

Goddamnit he's loud.

"IF THAT AIN'T YOU TAKE A HIKE, ALL ADMISSION RESULTS WILL BE OUT WITHIN THE WEEK!"

Don't gotta tell me twice, my fucking ear drums are ringing and I need something to eat yesterday.

Wonder how sis will react when I say I took down the zero pointer? Can't wait to see that boogers face when I tell her.
