Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: but I don't love you

Lean woke to the smell of coffee and the sound of Trinity humming in the kitchen. A tray appeared at her bedside -toast, fruit, eggs, the kind of breakfast that felt like care wrapped in routine.

"Good morning and You deserve this," Trinity said, setting it down. "After everything that happened this week , let someone look after you."

Lean smiled faintly, stretching. "You're spoiling me."

"That's the point."

"didn't know you can be this sweet" Lean teased.. Tapping the other side of the bed so Trinity can sit aswell.

"well there's a lot you don't know about me" she winked as she threw herself on the bed munching on the food with Lean..

Waking up to lean in her bed sheets is all Trinity has been praying..life ain't fair anyway she knows this is probably hurting Debra...

She was the first to take Lean on a date but Debra decided to take lean and put her.. In her bed instead..

Trinity snapped a few pictures-Lean holding her mug, crumbs on the sheets, both of them smiling like the world outside didn't exist.

"make sure you edit those before posting, i don't wanna look like my problems"

"will do so" that was a relief she thought lean would tell her to delete the pictures.

After breakfast and washing the dishes together.. steam filled the bathroom as Trinity ran her a bath, candles flickering against the tiles. Lean sank into the water, closing her eyes, letting herself be carried by the ease of it all.

"thank you for this, Lean said looking at Trinity who just nodded and undressed making freeze in one place looking at her....

She did not see this coming...

" I'll take the shower" lean could not reply... She had to testify Trinity's body was 50 times better than Debra's... Trinity was more manly than Debra...

Trinity worked out too.. Her body was toned.. Had no boobs at all making her look like she has a chest instead..with a four pack on her tummy.. She was one sexy woman...

Lean swallowed a little as she closed her eyes putting her hand in between her thighs.. This was silly but she had to feel something...

Yupp... Sure was slippery now

Sigh..

And all this was in Trinity's eyes.. I guess I'm winning she thought inwardly "

By noon, Trinity drove her back to her apartment. Artin spotted them, and within minutes Debra knew.

....

Debra stormed in, chest tight, voice sharp. "So this is what you've been doing? Breakfast in bed, pictures - straight to her the moment you lost your job?"

Lean looked up from the couch, eyes narrowing. "Debra, what are you even doing here?"

"You don't get it," Debra snapped. "I barely slept last night thinking about what was happening between you two."

Lean stood, anger rising. "And why does that matter? We are not in a relationship. We hang out. We sleep together. That's it. Who I spend time with is none of your business."

Debra's voice cracked. "Don't say it like it means nothing. It means something to me."

Lean shook her head, frustration spilling over. "That's your problem, not mine. I care about you, but I don't love you. Stop trying to cage me in feelings I don't have."

The words hit Debra like a blow. She froze, her fury collapsing into hurt.

"I don't want labels," she whispered, eyes wet. "I just don't want to feel disposable."

Lean's tone softened, but stayed firm. "Then stop pretending this is more than it is. I'm not your girlfriend. I'm not your partner. I'm just me. And if that's not enough, maybe you need to rethink what you want. You came up with the whole no labels thing meaning you never planned on taking me serious anyway... "

Debra turned away without uttering any other word

.....

Lean sat alone later that night, the apartment quiet except for the hum of the fridges. Trinity had dropped her off hours ago, but the warmth of breakfast in bed and the bath had already faded. What lingered was the argument-the look on Debra's face when she'd said "I don't love you."

She rubbed her temples. "Maybe I was too harsh," she muttered.

But the bitterness was still there. Tech Haven had cut her loose without warning. Debra's father and the board had made the decision, and Debra hadn't even known. Still, in Lean's mind, Debra was part of that world-the polished glass walls, the family name, the privilege. And Lean was the one who paid the price.

That's why she'd gone to Trinity. Not because she wanted romance, but because she needed comfort from someone outside the Harrison orbit. Someone who didn't remind her of the company that had just stripped her of stability.

Yet, as she replayed the fight, she realized Debra's pain had been real. The jealousy, the sleepless nights - it wasn't about control, it was about fear. Fear of being disposable.

Still debra has no right to try and cage her up. Now she sees why Debra never mentioned a relationship from the beginning, she was holding onto hope that Clarissa was going to come back..

By the time Clarissa came back she was hooked in trying to be Lean's saviour. Now that she thinks of it.. Maybe that confession in the kitchen was all an act or she's just reminds Debra of Clarissa...

They had the same hair color, bangs and one sided dimples.. Fuck why didn't she notice all that... Maybe because Clarissa keeps changing her hair color from time to time.

Lean sighed, leaning back against the couch. "She doesn't get it. I didn't run to Trinity to hurt her. I ran because I couldn't stand being around the people who ruined me."

For the first time, she admitted to herself: Debra wasn't the enemy. The company was. The board. The decisions made in rooms she'd never been invited into.

And her new realization just made her see things in a different way now...

But Debra had taken the blow anyway
