Chapter 43 - Chapter 41: The Crashing Waves

On top of the mansion's rooftop, Eijin sat at the edge of the roof. This was his favorite spot in the mansion, as he could witness the beautiful sunset. He seemed lost in thought. "That wasn't the first time my teleportation power malfunctioned," he told himself. "The same thing happened when my power first manifested. I couldn't control my abilities back then, so I ended up in random places, but those places were places I had been to before," he muttered. "But unlike last time, I ended up in places I hadn't even been to before." He pondered.

As he watched the crashing waves at the edge of the lighthouse not too far from his mansion, he said to himself, "I should master this new ability." Why wouldn't he? It would be a great addition to his arsenal of abilities. It would be a great help in rescuing others.

Suddenly, two soft hands covered his eyes. "Mara," he smirked. Nobody could sneak up on him except Mara. Her ability was a total contrast to his powers and abilities. Mara could fully hide her presence, including her scent. If she went intangible, there was no way anybody could sense her. Eijin grabbed her arms and pulled them in front, making Mara move closer to him, resulting in her wrapping her arms around Eijin's body.

The scene suddenly became romantic, with Mara embracing Eijin from behind. Her cheeks touched his. "What are you doing here, lonely boy?" Mara teased Eijin.

"I'm just enjoying the sunset," Eijin replied, smiling.

"Oh, I thought you were thinking about those Shadowstrike vixens, especially that blonde, gorgeous woman," Mara teased again.

"Are you jealous?" Eijin asked, smiling.

"Of course not!" Mara quickly denied. "Why would I be? Their beauty isn't even on par with Rachel," she added confidently. She meant that they were incomparable to Rachel, let alone herself.

"Is that so? I thought you would be. I thought you wanted me to be yours only," Eijin teased back.

Mara's cheeks blushed. She couldn't find the words to reply. This was the first time Eijin had said such things.

Suddenly, Eijin moved and faced Mara. "This is it. I can practice teleportation with her," he thought to himself. "Say, Mara, would you like to go somewhere else?" Eijin asked.

Mara's face became even more red, but before she could answer, they disappeared from the edge of the roof.

They both reappeared on top of the lighthouse. Eijin was a bit confused; he didn't expect that they would appear in the place he envisioned. Meanwhile, Mara was in shock. This was her first experience with teleporting, and she held onto Eijin tightly, looking at him with disbelief. The flicker of white light was stuck in her mind. So, this is what it feels like to teleport.

Eijin teleported again, but this time they reappeared falling on top of the ocean near their mansion. Eijin was even more confused. This was not what he expected again. He had envisioned teleporting to the same spot on the rooftop where they originally started. But to his surprise, they didn't appear in the place he intended to go.

Mara held onto Eijin even tighter as she could feel the speed of their fall. Eijin tried to calm his thoughts and relaxed himself. He looked at Mara's pretty face and teleported again.

This time, they reappeared on the edge of the roof where they had been sitting before. Eijin was sitting, and Mara was seated on top of him, with her legs and arms wrapped around his body. Mara seemed confused, and her cheeks turned rosy again due to their awkward position. "What are you doing?" Mara asked. "You naughty..." And she pinched Eijin's cheeks.

Eijin smiled, as he seemed to understand now how his powers worked while he teleports together with someone. It appeared to be affected by his emotions. "I'm sorry," he said, gently touching Mara's chin. And then they disappeared again.

They found themselves atop the tallest skyscraper in Elysium City, the Cosmos, one of the buildings that Eijin had inherited from his foster parents. This spot held a special place in his heart. In a remarkably short time, Eijin had mastered the technique of teleportating with others, effortlessly whisking himself and others to different locations. With a gentle landing, Eijin's right foot touched the platform of the monopole tower at the center of the building. He held Mara by the waist, ensuring her safety and preventing her from falling. Mara was captivated by the breathtaking night view of the entire city, with its mesmerizing neon lights below and the radiant full moon above.

"Thank you so much," Eijin said, his gaze locked with Mara's eyes.

Mara was taken aback by Eijin's sudden display of gratitude. "Thank you for what?" she asked, her cheeks blushing.

"For your unwavering support, for always being there for me, for caring about me, for everything," Eijin replied sincerely. But before he could continue, Mara interrupted him, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red. "No silly, you don't have to say that. If anything, I should be the one thanking you. Ever since the day you saved me, I knew deep down that we were destined to be together." Tears welled up in her eyes, overwhelmed with emotion.

Mara vividly remembered the first time they met. Coming from an ordinary family, Mara's parents had high hopes for her and enrolled her in one of the most prestigious high schools in Elysium, hoping it would lead to a better life. However, being an ordinary citizen, she faced constant mistreatment and bullying. It was Eijin who always came to her rescue, even though he didn't quite fit in with others either. Despite not being close initially, Eijin's kindness never wavered. Unfortunately, the bullying persisted, and Mara's parents struggled to support her education. Eventually, she made the difficult decision to drop out of school and find work. Her life became even more challenging as she faced the harsh realities of the world. Tragically, her parents were framed by ambitious colleagues and lost their jobs. The weight of the situation took a toll on their health, and they passed away. It was during this time of immense trauma that Mara's powers began to awaken. Interestingly, all her abilities seemed to revolve around defense. In order to survive, she resorted to using her powers to steal money. She grew up as a nomad, surviving on her own, until she crossed paths with a syndicate led by a powerful female dark elf. Mara thought she had found a new family, but soon realized they were merely using her. She desperately wanted to sever ties with them, but it seemed impossible. Once again, it was Eijin who came to her rescue. Eijin, still new to the world of vigilante justice and inexperienced, found himself at odds with the syndicate, inadvertently exposing his true identity to Mara and their leader. Grateful for Eijin's constant support, Mara made the decision to protect his true identity at all costs. She bravely clung onto the dark elf's body, pulling them both into the raging inferno of the burning hideout. However, Eijin managed to save Mara once again, grabbing her hand just in time to prevent her from falling. From that day forward, their bond grew stronger, forming a genuine and unwavering alliance. They held onto each other's arms as the scene of the burning faded, Eijin and Mara finding themselves embracing on top of the Cosmos building.

Eijin and Mara locked eyes, their faces blushing a deep shade of red as they drew closer to each other. The wind gently blew beneath the pale blue moon. They closed their eyes, their faces inching closer, but suddenly Mara's mobile phone flashed and her favorite song started playing, indicating an incoming call. It was Elise. Mara and Eijin burst into laughter. Mara tapped her phone to answer. "Where are you and Eijin?" Elise asked. "I'm starving," she added.

"We're right here on the rooftop," Mara replied. "We'll be there soon." Eijin embraced Mara, ready to teleport back to the mansion, but Mara suddenly held Eijin's cheek and pressed her lips against his.
