Nana Monty's mind suddenly went blank, and if her mother hadn't been holding her, she would have collapsed to the ground.
She slowly sat down, watching the man who risked his life to protect her, feeling so heartbroken she couldn't breathe.
He was now lying there quietly, unable to speak, unable to smile, not even able to move a finger, only the rise and fall of his chest showing he was still alive.
"Can he hear me if I talk?" Nana Monty asked Jayden Maguire's mother, crying.
Maguire's mother nodded, "Definitely, you should talk to him more."
"Okay." Nana Monty tightly held Jayden Maguire's hand.
She wanted to warm him, just as he had warmed her countless times in the past.
Everyone else left the ward, leaving Nana Monty alone with Jayden Maguire.
