After dinner at home, Valentine Teller told Mark Reed about this as a joke.
Mark Reed teased, "Aren't you worried I'll be seduced by other women?"
"If you're that easily seduced, there's nothing I can do. You often walk along the riverbank; it's hard not to get your shoes wet. Especially since you're high up, facing more temptations than the average man."
Valentine gazed at Mark deeply, her big watery eyes seeming to say, "I hope you won't betray me!"
"If you treat me right, I won't even glance at other women."
Mark grinned mischievously, spread his long arms, pulled her into his embrace, and gently combed through her long hair.
