I dug my hand in my cloak pocket and took out a key, I showed it to her she just stood and watch what i was going to do next.
then I went to a certain lion's head statue on the wall and placed the key inside of the lion's mouth. I twisted it then it clicked open indicating that something has been unlocked.afterwards something began rumbling, we both looked at the direction the sound was coming from and we saw a part of the ground opened up and a stairs going down from the inside.
"wow....." my sister stared in amazement "but how come father never told me anything about a secret underground in the prison yard?" Tani said
" I don't know. maybe he thought it was best he told me since I was older" I said
"so you mean if we go inside , it will take us to the back of the palace?? " she asked
" yes tani"
" then what are we waiting for , let's go in immediately now" she said and was about just about going in
"Tani wait , it's dark inside we need light to see further" I said
I took two of the fire lights from the holder and gave one to her. we started walking on the stairs going deeper under the ground. Midway on the stairs , we heard the ground closing back but it so was cold inside.
"it is very cold here Lilith"
" don't worry we will soon be out" I assured her
we went further and further till our feet touched the last staircase, it became Even more colder
"I'm freezing Lilith even with my cloak on " Tani said embracing herself,her teeth chittering
I looked around there was nothing but empty spaces everywhere,under our feet was something like mist covering it.i went to the walls.
"I think no one has been in here for ages" I said while now running my hand across the cold wall looking for something specific
" well it doesn't matter, just open the door and let's leave here ,I'm gonna freeze to death" Tani said
" well that's the problem Tani,I don't see any door" she frowned
" what!!? what do you mean by that?? didn't father tell you anything about any door underground?" she said
" no he didn't tell me, he only told me there was an underground and that was it, he never told me how to open the door from here and there seem to be no door either too" I said
" well check properly,look everywhere it might also be that you must unlock it like the way you did it in the prison yard"
"you're right. alright then you search that way and I check this way, this place is completely empty so if you by chance see any little thing ,you inform me alright?"
" alright....."
then we began searching pers Tani request, I searched the four corners of the walls I also tried looking under the Misty ground but nothing like a lock could be seen,I almost wanted to tear out my hair in frustration but then I heard Tani scream,I ran to her
"what is it??" I asked
"I just saw a centipede and I dropped the light by accident now it's quenched"
" it's alright ,we can manage mine but did you see anything?"
" no I did not, what about you??" she asked
" no i haven't seen anything like that, I am just confused, I mean why would father tell me this led to the back of the palace when it was only a dead end? now what do we do,am just so tired of everything" I said tearily
I took some steps away from Tani,I was just so agitated and frustrated I became so weak and tired that my hands couldn't take it anymore and I also accidentally dropped the only light left . it became very dark,it was even darker than darkness. my sister shrieked and screamed in panic in the dark
"Lilith what have you done? why did you drop the light, how do we see our way back now. it is very dark and freezing , why did you drop it ?? I can't even see where you are Lilith , where are you??" she said panicking
"I'm sorry Tani , I couldn't take it. I could not just take it" I said and began to cry whimpering in the dark
" oh sister do not cry, do not lose courage now you told me you would protect us earlier ,didn't you? you said you would keep your promise . now do not go back on your words Lilith , don't cry please"my sister pleaded.
" I'm sorry Tani but I was a fool thinking I could handle everything myself but I can't, I mean I'm just a princess who doesn't know anything and can't even protect myself. so how would I have ever thought I would be able to protect us. forgive me Tani for putting us in a situation like this I'm really sorry". i cried even more
" no Lilith, you did your best. you took us this far and this is enough proof to know you are the best sister in the world. I love you Lilith so much, I just wish I could see you so I could hug you really tight" she said then she also started crying
we both cried in the dark longer than we could remember. I did not even know where I was standing but I knew I was leaning on a wall,then a loud thunder striked startling the both of us in the dark we both heard our gasps
"Tani are you alright?" I asked
"yes I'm fine but sister there's something behind you" she said,I frowned even though she couldn't see me.
" something behind me?,what is that?"
"I think you should come forward a little to see for yourself" she said
I backed out of the wall and went forward a little. going back , I could see a cracked wall and the lightnings outside was emmiting through it,I went back again,a little bit backward and I was shocked from what I saw.the cracking actually curved in a circle form making the lightnings outside form an image of a door.
"what is this??" I said
"I don't know sister but I think it's a sign" Tani said
I went closer to it and touched it.i pushed it a little and it actually made a creaky sound,I opened my eyes wide open ,no way!! could it be?...
"Tani could you please come help me push this wall?"I said
she came and we both pushed the wall,we pushed so hard grunting and groaning with our last energy though it was kinda difficult but finally the wall fell down with a loud thud creating a huge pile of dust blinding us for a minute.
when it settled down ,we both came out of the huge gaping hole and we looked around.it wasn't a good sight just a tall big wall with huge vines covering it
my sister chuckled and shook her head .
"oh thank goodness Lilith we made it and we survived this night and we are actually at the back of the palace, that means father was right oh yes" she said then she turned towards me
"see Lilith I knew you would keep your promise,I knew you would protect me really well. you did good sister thank you"
she smiled at me.i didn't have any word to say I just smiled back and then her smile got even more wider as she ran to me and enveloped me in a tight hug
"you're the best sister really!" she said
"I disagree Tani you're the best best best sister I could ever have and I will never let you go okay,I will make sure you are always by my side and I will always do my possible best to protect you hmm" I said
I felt tears drops on my shoulders,she was crying again.
"promise?...."
"promise...."
we just stood there embracing ourselves and I did not even know when I also started crying,we both cried again not because of hopelessness but joy and relief. Even the clouds got emotional too that it began to cry Cat and dog .
after a while,we pulled out from the hug
"so where do we go next?" Tani said
"look ahead, there's a forest path over there maybe if we go through it,we could get to another village nearby" I said. " yes" she said but suddenly her mood changed
" I just can't believe this is happening to us so this is the end of trozan kingdom?" she pouted her lips disappointedly
" never I wouldn't let that happen,I had already promised myself and trozan that I'll bring it back to its feet again,so you do not worry Tani, this will surely be our home again and you with the sky are my witness" I said fiercely and determined
I sighed deeply and just bowed my head for some moment to take everything that happened this dreadful night .as the cold rain poured on my head,but I wasn't going to be down now no I shouldn't,I still had a long and tough way to go. apart from escaping,we now had a life to rebuild again and which I know wasn't going to be easy,I swore to protect my sister since she was the only one I have and I the only one she have now,we are going to be together always no matter what!!!.
but if I had known that I wouldn't keep my promise
"come let us go" I said
Tani nodded, we were about to go when the clanking of swords, wailing , screaming attracted my ears
"wait!!!"I exclaimed putting Tani to a halt
" what is it sister?" she asked frowning
" could you perhaps wait here,I want to go look what's going on at the front palace" I said
she stared at me in shock
" Lilith are you crazy?? do you want to go show your self?"
" I won't show myself,I just want to have a peek"
" no I won't let you go sister,I would never I mean what's the point,what could be there are probably dead people,do you want to see that??"
" sister I just want to have a peek please let me go please"I folded my hands at her pleading
" Lilith.... why don't you get it, it's too risky you might get caught then what will be the point of escaping all this while? please don't do this sister"
"Tani just let me go look once please"
"alright fine..... you can go look but please be careful ,do not let them see you" she said surrendering
" ok thank you" I grinned at her
"but sister..... if you ever get caught,I will be so mad at you and I will never forgive myself for not trying so hard to stop you"
I patted her shoulders
" have faith in me sister"
