Ankhseram was breathing hard as he looked at the aftermath of his attack. Or more like the lack of anything in the place where his greatest adversary stood before.
He had never used that much energy for an attack in his life. Knowing how dangerous Karna was, Ankhseram was not going to take any chances, so the attack he used was imbued with every understanding and power he had learned about death in the last thousand years.
But finally, he can now peacefully go back to his destiny to be the true God of Death.
He then turned around and channelled his power to look into the timeline.
Since Karna had been a fate breaker and had interfered with Ankhseram's fate directly, Ankhseram was unable to see the end of his timeline where he finally ascends to become the true God of the Death Domain.
But since he is dead, he will finally be able to see the future in which he will obtain complete control over the Domain of Death.
Ankhseram waved his hand and manipulated the death energy to show him the timeline like he always did.
He waited a few seconds.
His brows furrowed as nothing happened.
He waved his hands again, trying to channel the power within the Domain of Death once more.
…..
Once again, nothing happened. Ankhseram suddenly began feeling as if something had gone wrong.
He then turned back to check the place where he had completely erased Karna.
But the moment he turned, he was face to face with the same person whom he believed to have destroyed before.
Ankhseram froze in absolute fear.
Forget the fact that the person he had wiped out from reality itself moments ago was standing in front of him, the real factor that caused him fear was that there were no signs of him existing in front of him.
Ankhseram felt as if he was looking at a shadow in living form. He was unable to recognise even a spark of life from the body that was standing in front of him. No trace of magic. Not even a heartbeat was present there in front of him.
Karna's eyes were closed, but Ankhseram had a feeling of extreme danger when he pictured those eyelids opening in front of him right now.
Ankhseram didn't wait around thinking about speculations.
Whatever Karna had done had brought him back from being annihilated and was somehow interfering with his own powers. Waiting around until he opened his eyes or completed his transformation was a foolish idea.
Ankhseram immediately punched straight towards Karna's face while channelling as much death energy as he possibly could.
But the moment the punch landed…
Absolutely nothing happened.
Ankhseram was now surprised as he looked at his fist, which was currently on Karna's jaw.
He had expected his attack to pass right through his face while eliminating every molecule in the way, or at least create a small wound or sound.
But what he got in return was complete stillness. He didn't even feel the punch landing on Karna's face. If Karna's face was strong enough to withstand his attack, he should have at least felt the backlash of that attack. Even sustained a few injuries due to punching an immovable object.
It took him seconds to realise what had happened.
'He killed every part of my punch!!!'
The slow realisation that his opponent had mastered the ability to kill the natural laws themselves was bringing untold fear into his very being.
Even after centuries, the best he was able to do was erase memories and people completely.
His best attack was able to eliminate a person completely from the timeline itself.
But removing the laws of motion themselves was something that he had never hoped to see before completing the complete apotheosis.
But again, another realisation came to his mind.
Even if Karna had that much control over the concept of death, his own death energy should not have been so easily deleted like the other forces.
He immediately brought his fist back and began inspecting it once more.
He then tried to channel the death energy so that it appeared on his arm.
Nothing happened for a few seconds.
But Ankhseram did not stop. He kept on trying to channel energy from his body.
He refused to believe the alternative, naked truth.
He, Ankhseram, the one who stood at the pinnacle of death arts, had completely lost his death manipulation powers.
At that moment, Karna opened his eyes.
Ankhseram stopped as well, as even while hopelessly trying to ignite his powers in the last few seconds, he had kept one eye on Karna because of the dread he was feeling from the boy.
And when he opened his eyes, that dread evolved into absolute terror.
Karna's eyes were pitch black. But Ankhseram immediately realised why they had taken that colour.
His eyes were eliminating the photons themselves that came close to them, thereby reflecting the colour black.
Ankhseram was speechless.
'This… this is… this is the end of this path,' Ankhseram realised. He was glimpsing a small spark of what he wished to become one day when he set out on this path.
"Its beautiful," Ankhseram spoke out, finally finding his voice.
The moment he did, Karna slowly turned his entire body in his direction. And then, multiple voices began to project from his mouth at the same time.
"""Ankhseram, your actions have caused the death of millions of beings throughout the last millennia.""" As he spoke, the entire Death Domain began resonating with those multiple voices at the same time.
"""You broke the balance of the world for your own selfish needs and had terrorised all living beings your entire life."""
He then slowly raised his hands towards him.
"HAKAI!!"
Ankhseram was unable to move for a second. The moment his judgement came, he felt his entire body freeze up with no power left within him to fight for his life.
"Oh, so this is what it feels like to die," he muttered as he was completely erased from reality.
A/N - Really sorry about the large break, guys. I just started my B.Ed., and I have to travel two hours by bus every morning and evening for classes. I will try to complete these books and start the next ones, but there might be an irregular rate of chapter posting.
Hope you like it.
