Chapter 38 - CHAPTER 38 (revamp)

"I see the rescue group is garbage. No wonder they still can't free me. Don't you know what invisibility spells are for? You look like a beacon in the night."

"They can no longer use magic, dear. Why don't you help them?"

"That's impossible! You saw it. Because of that stupid man, my magic can only be used for this idiotic object-moving spell. But with so many security filters, I can't use it if the object weighs more than fifty grams. I'm doomed. If that bastard returns, he'll reactivate the seals, and I'll go back to sleep... never to wake up."

"That's why we can help. See that small stone? Why don't you move it?"

"Well, that? Let's see... It moves! Quite something to think about calmly. But it's just a splinter. I don't see a real use. What could we do with it? A sword, a staff, something that can give more power—that would be useful."

"You forget you can move it quickly. Look, see that guard at the end of the hall. Calmly lift it to the height of his skull. Accelerate it but keep it in place. You need it to gain inertia. Carefully... Now that he's not looking! Hard, fast, pierce him through... See how it's not so difficult?"

"Easy for you to say. That was very tiring. But you're right. If I want to get out of here, I have to help those idiots so they meet no resistance. First, I'll make it so I can see with that rock... Done. Now, to go through the hallways where I feel they're coming. They chose a short path at least. There are ten guards watching, but they're separated. If they eliminate one and I eliminate nine, I can be free!"

"Yes and no. Remember, you still have to go to your father's friend. It's very important that he be the one to take you out of this coffin, otherwise you'll die, and the elf king will think you failed."

"I'm no child! I turned four hundred years old six months ago. That little stone is my only hope. I have to manage to move it. I've already taken the stone out of the hall where I am. The farther I move it, the harder it gets. But I won't give up. Those pack mules need me to move them. I just want someone to get me out of this place. I've had plenty of time to read these runes. The voice is right. I can't just leave. Most of the runes aren't protective—they're explosive seals. If I open this by my own means, nothing will save me. The whole keep would blow up with me."

"I've already killed seven guards. I cleared the hallways. But the useless ones are driving me crazy. Instead of using their maps radiating my energy to reach me, they just follow a small, grimy map. What's more important than their princess? I'll make sure they all lose their heads!"

"Remember the scroll, Princess. For you to escape, they need to release a scroll deep in the library."

"Cursed rats! Don't you know how tiring it is to eliminate their guards and pursuers? I have to be able to do something. It's very frustrating to be limited. Here we go again—this little stone must be enough. There they go running like idiots. They don't think about enemies. They're just brats. They can't even be a hundred and fifty years old... Shit! There are at least four guards at the library entrance. If I kill one, the others will notice."

"Eliminate them with magic!"

I can't. Something as simple as a Ray would knock me out from the excess magic used. You know it! If I'm unconscious, I can't help the idiots coming to save me.

"I could help, Princess. Don't worry. You eliminate them. I'll guide your rescuers to bring you safely."

"I have no choice, do I? Fine. No point arguing. Calm—I need to see their faces. Stone, don't fail me! There they are, standing. Those Forest Elves! I knew it! I'll make sure to kill all those inferiors as soon as our powers return. Let's see, at their heads... Got them!"

"...Pr...in...cess... Princess, we are free!"

"Hmm? Really? Are we going to where I must invoke the curse upon the continent?"

"No, Your Highness. As I told you, it is essential they bring the other spell—the one your father's friend wrote. We are going to the site where the invocation will take place. The convoy that went for that scroll must arrive there. Why don't you rest? You've been moving that stone for hours. I woke you so you'd know you're hours away from fulfilling what your father asked."

"Are you sure? Truth is, I'm still tired. This magic never posed a problem before. At least I'll be free soon. I'll take your word for it. Good night!"

Gullible.

"Did you say something?"

"Sleep well, Princess of the Blood Elves. Soon we will be free."
