Chapter 104: Little Money, Ah
Originally, Zhang Yang had only entrusted Qiao Xier to sell 2% of his shares, but now he'd changed his mind. He decided to sell all 43 million shares. At 5 yuan per share, that would give him 215 million yuan in cash.
After repaying what he owed Qiao Xier, he'd still have just over 200 million left—and right now, he desperately needed that 200 million.
The reason was simple. Professor Shangguan Hong had successfully persuaded the upper management of Meining University and the city government to lease him the land near his villa for 30 million yuan a year. The lease was set for twenty years, with the school reserving the right to adjust the rent every five years based on market prices. Zhang Yang also had the right to buy out the entire 200,000-square-meter plot for 1.5 billion within three years.
A 30-million annual rent for land valued at over 1.5 billion was definitely a steal—it was far cheaper than any bank loan interest.
Even so, 30 million per year was still a terrifying sum for Zhang Yang. He had to pay two years' rent upfront—60 million total, with 30 million as the first year's rent and another 30 million as a deposit.
So even if he could cash out smoothly, 60 million would immediately be gone, leaving him with around 150 million. He had to use that money to build Nuwa Company's headquarters and factory as soon as possible.
Gao Qi had done an initial estimate—even with 150 million, based on Zhang Yang's standards, it would only be enough to build a rehabilitation center and one factory building. That didn't even include operating expenses.
And even then, it would still fall far short of Zhang Yang's dream—to build headquarters for all five companies: Nuwa Electronics, Nuwa Materials, Nuwa Energy, Nuwa Pharmaceuticals, and Nuwa Heavy Industries.
What's more, all this depended on whether anyone would actually buy his shares. After all, over 200 million in cash wasn't something most companies could or would produce so easily.
But this was an urgent need for Zhang Yang, so he had to ask Qiao Xier for help. And her solution was simple—go straight to her rich mother, Ye Jing.
"Since you outright rejected my advice," Ye Jing said with a smile, looking at Zhang Yang, "what makes you think I'd acquire your shares?"
She paused, then asked, "Did Qiaoqiao tell you that?"
Zhang Yang thought for a moment and shook his head. "I only know you invested in Xingyun and now hold 45% of the shares. If you add Joyce's 1%, that's 46%. With my 5%, you'd surpass 50% and become Xingyun's rightful chairwoman."
Ye Jing smiled and said after a moment, "You're right."
"Then, didn't Qiaoqiao tell you why I'd want to become Xingyun's chairwoman?"
Zhang Yang shook his head. He was curious, but it wasn't his business. "It's not my place to ask."
"Smart boy. You know talking too much can get you in trouble." Ye Jing waved her hand, and her beautiful assistant walked up gracefully.
"This is Liu Xuyin, my assistant. Regarding your Xingyun share transfer, I'll have her handle it… Also, I'll buy your shares at Xingyun's current market price—6.28 yuan per share—for a total of 270 million."
270 million?
Zhang Yang froze. Was there really someone in this world who wasn't short on cash?
He only needed 215 million! That extra 55 million wasn't small change. Was she trying to buy his silence?
"Ma'am, I said five yuan per share…"
"I know. Let me finish." Ye Jing interrupted. "Don't think I'm giving you an extra 55 million to shut you up. I have my conditions."
Zhang Yang hesitated. "Please go on."
"I know your Nuwa Company's registered capital is 20 million. I'll treat that 55 million as an investment and take 10% equity. How does that sound?"
The company's registered capital was 20 million, and she was offering 55 million—more than double. Yet she only wanted 10% shares. Anyone with half a brain would agree without hesitation.
But Ye Jing watched in disbelief as Zhang Yang shook his head—fast and firm. Was this guy bad at math?
Fifty-five million! Not five point five. And she only wanted ten percent, not fifty. Couldn't he at least pretend to think before refusing?
Even though she was frustrated inside, her face stayed calm. "Not enough money? Or what?"
Zhang Yang glanced at her. The money was plenty, but even if it were 100 million, he'd never give away even 1% of Nuwa's shares to someone he couldn't fully trust.
"Ma'am, I appreciate your offer, but Nuwa's shares won't be sold to anyone—and it'll never go public. I hope you understand."
"Your company won't go public? Doesn't every entrepreneur dream of going public? Don't you want to make more money?" Ye Jing was honestly shocked. What was he thinking?
Start a company that won't go public?
He wasn't in it for the money?
He didn't want to expand indefinitely?
"Yes, I want to make money, but going public isn't the only way. Not every successful company needs to list. Look at Koch Industries, Amway, Dove, Huawei…"
"Alright…" Ye Jing shifted slightly, adjusting into a more comfortable position. "I admit, some big companies are successful without going public. But my 55 million for 10% equity wouldn't affect your operations at all. Why refuse?"
"You say it won't affect company decisions, but according to corporate law, even a 1% shareholder has influence. Also, I believe Nuwa's 10% stake may only be worth five million now—but in two or three years, it'll be worth 500 million. Or five billion."
"Five hundred million… five billion?" Ye Jing could no longer stay calm. That would mean the company's valuation would reach 50 billion—or even 500 billion? In just a few years?
Did he even know how long it took Lanchen to reach 80 billion? Over twenty years! And he thought he could catch up in two or three?
This wasn't just arrogance—it was delusion. Sure, she knew Nuwa would produce the Nanxing One anti-cancer drug in the future, but could its growth be that explosive in one year?
"You can call it boasting if you want," Zhang Yang said with a smile. "But as for the shares, I'm sorry."
Ye Jing folded her hands on the table, resting her chin on them. After a sigh, she said, "Fine. Since you're that determined, I won't press it. Actually, that 10% stake—I meant to write it under Qiaoqiao's name. But since you insist, I'll buy your shares at 6.28 yuan each. Forget what I said about Nuwa."
Zhang Yang blinked. "You were going to give those shares to Joyce?"
"Yes."
"Then there's no need. I once offered her 50%, but she refused and only took 2%. But if she ever wants more, I'll give it to her—any amount."
Ye Jing sighed again, smiling self-deprecatingly. "So, my 55 million can't even compare to my daughter's charm. Fine, your words are enough." She turned to her assistant. "Xiao Liu, arrange a meeting with Mr. Zhang tomorrow to handle the share transfer. As for tonight…"
She glanced at her watch, smiling at Zhang Yang. "6:32. You won't be late for your English class."
Zhang Yang was overjoyed and quickly thanked her before leaving.
After he left, Ye Jing stayed. The two women sat quietly for a long while before she finally spoke softly, "What do you think of him?"
Only she and Liu Xuyin were in the room, so the question was clearly directed at her assistant.
"That depends on how you see him, Chairwoman," the beautiful assistant replied with a slight smile.
"What do you mean?" Ye Jing raised her brows slightly.
"You oppose Joyce being with him, yet you're buying shares in his company for her. Why else would you do that?"
