Chapter 96: The Mixed-Blood Beauty

Zhang Yang looked at her and asked, "So what do you mean?"

"I mean, you walk your broad highway, and I'll cross my single-log bridge."

"You're kidding, right?"

"Not kidding, being serious." Qiao Xier pushed him away, smiling as she stood up. "When you're capable of marrying multiple wives, come find me. Maybe then I can tolerate sharing my man with other women. But I won't wait too long."

She raised two fingers and made an X. "Two years! I'll give you two years. If by then you can't convince my family, and I can't convince myself, then this fine body of mine will have to be handed over to another brute."

"Think about it." Qiao Xier said flirtatiously, spinning in place. "If you want me, you'd better start working hard now."

In that instant, as her skirt lifted slightly, revealing white lace panties underneath, Zhang Yang felt a surge of lust.

"Now, let's talk business." She sat down again, face turning serious. "You hit Du Yuheng."

"You did too."

"No shit. But what can he do to me?" Qiao Xier tapped her laptop. "But him coming after you is completely justified. You're not my boyfriend, so don't expect the Qiao family to back you. It's already good enough my mom hasn't sent anyone to hunt you down."

"So you're saying I've got to take on the whole Du family by myself?" Zhang Yang pulled a bitter face and took out his phone, showing her the text she'd sent. "Look, if you hadn't texted me that, I wouldn't have gone to hit him! Besides, I didn't know he was such a big shot! The Du family's eldest son! Forget two years—I might not even live two days."

Qiao Xier didn't even look, waving his hand away. "Bullshit. With your IQ, you knew anyone hanging out at Royal Hee wasn't ordinary. You didn't even bother asking his name before swinging. Clearly, you wanted to show off how hard your fists were. Which means you already had a plan."

"Plan my ass. My only plan was clinging to your big family tree. Now that I can't, I'll just cross the river by feeling the stones. Whoever messes with me—I'll wipe them out completely."

Qiao Xier sneered. "So you think your fists are all that?"

"Or maybe you think being part of the 'Dragonborn' project means he can't touch you openly." Qiao Xier nodded. "You're right—he won't act right away. But what about Lulu and Sister Qi? What if your villa gets burned down one night? Or your new company—the Nuwa Company, the Rehabilitation Center?"

"Alright, I get it." Zhang Yang looked at her calmly. "But if the Du family's not to be messed with, neither am I."

Qiao Xier gently tapped her forehead, looking exasperated, then closed her laptop. "I might have to head back to the capital for a few days. Before I go, you have to promise me one thing."

"I don't want you to fall out with your family because of me." Zhang Yang immediately guessed what she was planning.

Qiao Xier gave him a faint smile. "Relax. I know what I'm doing. I'm not ready to give up being the Qiao family's eldest daughter just yet. But you—watch that temper of yours. For the next while, behave. Whatever you plan to do, call me first. Without my permission, don't do anything stupid, got it?"

"Does going to bed count as something I need permission for?"

"Get lost! Be serious. If you don't agree, our two-year deal's off. I'll find some brute to take my virginity tomorrow."

"Don't…" That trump card was lethal—Zhang Yang immediately gave in. Playing humble wasn't new to him; he'd been doing it for twenty years before the Nuwa System.

Qiao Xier returned to the capital. Though she claimed it was because she missed home, Zhang Yang knew for sure she'd gone to put out the fire. Things had clearly blown up.

He obeyed her instructions and behaved for two days. He even restrained his desires. Partly because Gao Qi was on her period, and Xu Danlu was busy taking care of her father, attending classes, and managing the new company.

Every day, Zhang Yang texted Qiao Xier to report his whereabouts. Even though she mocked his childishness, on the third day, when he forgot to text her, she immediately called and scolded him like hell.

Left with no choice, Zhang Yang started sending her detailed daily reports.

"Thanks to you, the teacher you introduced, Yang Fei, increased my English word quota to 80 per day. I was up past 2 a.m. memorizing those damn words. And yes, alone…"

"Had breakfast, went to school for my first class in ages, then returned to the lab. Oh, and good news—the 'Dragonborn' Project Phase Two, Lingguang, just got government approval. If the intelligent charged cells succeed, Gao Qi's father's illness could be cured. But we're short on staff. Professor's thinking of hiring more women, but I firmly refused. In the end, he only hired one decent-looking girl; the rest look like Feng Jie. So don't worry."

Qiao Xier replied, "Who's the girl?"

Zhang Yang thought for a moment. "Not important. Smaller boobs than you, shorter than you, lower IQ too. Honestly, I don't even think knowing her name is necessary."

"Name!"

"Fine. Jennylee. Li Zhenni."

"That mixed-blood campus belle? Zhang Yang, if you can't keep your dick under control this time, I won't forgive you."

Zhang Yang wiped cold sweat. Damn, talk about hitting a sore spot. Shangguan Hong had specifically assigned Li Zhenni as his assistant, saying it'd help him improve his English speaking skills. The problem was, her Chinese was even better than his. Now he was stuck between two women—Liu Zixuan, who'd studied in the U.S., and Li Zhenni, a Harvard Medical School exchange student.

It'd be fine if they got along—but they were complete opposites. Liu Zixuan was the type who'd probably analyze your dick under a microscope if you showed it to her, while Jenny was the total opposite.

This beautiful mixed-blood woman, with black hair and mesmerizing blue eyes, was conservative to a shocking degree.

Even in the lab, she barely spoke to Wu Hao, that mild-mannered senior. With Zhang Yang, she was strictly formal—barely talked, and when she did, it was always, "Why?" Whenever she entered the lab, she stuck to her assistant duties, always close by Zhang Yang's side—but never discussing anything outside of work.

Thinking about that stiff beauty, Zhang Yang shook his head and texted back, "Relax. She's even safer than Feng Jie."

Qiao Xier didn't reply for a while. He wasn't sure if she was busy or just didn't believe him.

But after half a day, she finally texted back, "OK. I just checked with June. You're safe this time. But if anything happens… the lab's full of my spies."

Zhang Yang broke into a cold sweat!

So that's why she'd gone quiet—she'd gone to confirm with Liu Zixuan! Damn woman. He'd have to talk to Liu Zixuan soon.

Still, he replied sweetly, "Relax, you know me—world's most faithful man…"

"Faithful my ass. You jump at every pretty face you see!"

"That's it for now… got something to do. End of report!"

"What is it? Don't go causing trouble. Kiss as a reward!"

"Jerking off…"

In truth, an outside call came through. Zhang Yang glanced at the caller ID—his brows furrowed. Chen Tianxiong!

"Ah Ye's been found!" Chen Tianxiong's calm voice came through the line.
