Chapter 146: Yo, The Pretentious One's Here
The special recruitment fair for Peking Union Medical College was held in the auditorium. Even though it was snowing, by the time Yang Jing and Zhang Yang arrived, the place was already packed.
Looking around the venue, there were even more recruiters than job seekers. As expected, prestige attracts competition—everyone wanted the best talent.
The venue was divided into two main sections—one for pharmaceutical companies like Zhang Yang's, and another for hospitals. Just the hospitals directly affiliated with Peking Union Medical College, like Union Hospital, Cancer Hospital, Tiantan Hospital, and so on, totaled six. Add to that the many large medical institutions from across the country that had come here, and the place was absolutely swarming with people.
Zhang Yang finally managed to find his booth. The spot wasn't bad, but unfortunately, it was flanked by two corporate giants—EP Pharmaceuticals and Ganges Pharmaceuticals. Beyond them were Meiling Pharmaceuticals, YunCao Group, Xingyun, and other famous companies. Any one of them was a top 100 domestic conglomerate, putting immense pressure on Zhang Yang's small team.
Each of these companies had annual revenues in the tens of billions, their reputations far surpassing that of Nuwa.
More importantly, these companies had headquarters or offices right in the capital—making them prime choices for anyone wanting to stay in Beijing.
So, Zhang Yang didn't really pin his hopes on this recruitment fair. His true hope lay in the students Yang Jing's advisor would recommend. This event was more of a formality—a bit of participation for appearance's sake.
After setting up and sitting down, the school sent over two pretty girls to help—one to hand out flyers, and one to make a signboard.
Zhang Yang glanced around at the other booths' recruitment posters. Each had been meticulously designed. Compared to theirs...
He almost wished they hadn't come at all.
Sure enough, once the fair began, the big-name corporations and key hospitals' booths were packed, while his and a few unknown companies' booths were completely deserted.
Understandably so—these days, everyone wanted a secure, institutional position. The PhDs and master's students all aimed for hospitals, while only a few non-clinical majors would occasionally glance at smaller unknown companies like theirs.
Zhang Yang looked at Yang Jing, and she looked back at him—their expressions could only be described as awkward. The two nursing-major girls helping them were so bored they started playing on their phones.
"Why don't we just go find Professor He directly?" Yang Jing suggested.
"Yeah, seems like that's our only option." Zhang Yang thought about it—might as well pack up and leave.
Just as the two were tidying up to leave, a familiar voice rang out.
"Hey, junior, what a coincidence! You're here recruiting too?"
Zhang Yang turned toward the voice—well, damn, speak of the devil. Lei Tianming popped up out of nowhere again, flanked by two sharply dressed subordinates, standing right in front of Zhang Yang's booth.
Judging by their look, they were here for recruitment too—but Zhang Yang's first thought was... Yo, the pretentious bastard's here!
"What a coincidence, senior. You're here today to…"
"Haha, just came to join the fun." Lei Tianming glanced behind Zhang Yang's booth at the makeshift ad written in black ink on red paper. A faint smirk flashed across his face before he quickly masked it. Looking at the untouched pile of application forms, he feigned curiosity. "So, junior, how's it going?"
Yang Jing gave him a brief look and replied calmly, "For small, unknown companies like ours—half pharmaceutical, half medical—you can see for yourself."
"Haha, junior, that's not entirely true." Lei Tianming pointed at the poster behind Zhang Yang. "The issue's your ad. You're a new company with zero reputation. You should start smaller—target vocational or undergraduate graduates, remove that 'good looks preferred' nonsense, and especially delete that 'work in Meining' line. Then maybe someone might stop by."
"Oh, thanks for the advice, senior." Yang Jing looked back at the poster and smiled faintly. "Even if Nuwa isn't well-known, we're not lowering our standards."
"Haha, fair enough." Lei Tianming took a thick stack of applications from his assistant, waved them in his hand, and said, "How about this? I've got plenty of résumés here. I don't need that many people. Why don't I pass you some—you can call them yourself. Who knows, you might trick a couple into applying, haha."
Zhang Yang couldn't tell if he was being sincere or sarcastic, but it didn't matter—his words pissed him off. Zhang Yang stepped between them and said coldly, "Thanks, but no need. Just don't stand here blocking our booth, and we'll be grateful."
"Heh, feisty kid, aren't you? How am I blocking you? It's not like anyone's lining up at your booth."
Ignoring Zhang Yang, Lei Tianming turned back to Yang Jing. "Junior, didn't you always want to stay in the capital? Well, my company has an opening for an International Marketing Director—starting salary, one million a year. Interested?"
Fuck, Zhang Yang was truly pissed now. What kind of asshole recruits right next to someone else's booth—and steals their people?!
He clenched his fists tight. If there weren't so many people around, he'd have punched that bastard already. He was already mad about not getting any applicants, and now this jerk was trying to poach Yang Jing? Talk about asking for a beating!
"Senior, you must be joking." Yang Jing looked at the strong, handsome Lei Tianming, still wearing that calm, gentle smile, her big eyes narrowing slightly.
"No, I'm not joking. You used to be in a government post, so I didn't say anything before. But now, working for that Nuwa… company, isn't that beneath you? Sure, I've heard about that so-called Cancer Rehabilitation Center, but that Nanxing One thing? Total hype. Give it a few months, and it'll vanish."
Lei Tianming looked at Yang Jing seriously and continued, "I'm being sincere. As long as you join my company, you can pick any position except chairman. One million, no—two million, three million if that's what it takes."
Then he glanced at Zhang Yang, a smug grin tugging at his lips. "And how much are you paying her, Mr. Zhang?"
"A hundred thousand a year!" Yang Jing spoke before Zhang Yang could explode, smiling as she gently squeezed his hand, signaling him to stay calm. Then she turned to Lei Tianming and said evenly, "Even if Yangzi only paid me one yuan, I'd still choose to work for him. Got a problem with that, senior? If not, please stop interfering with our recruitment."
Her meaning couldn't be clearer. Seeing Yang Jing holding Zhang Yang's hand so intimately made Lei Tianming's face darken.
Still, he kept his composure. After giving Zhang Yang a few long, cold stares, he finally walked away.
But not long after, Zhang Yang noticed that the EP Pharmaceuticals booth beside his had been replaced by Tianming Technologies. Those two flunkies from before were now leading a massive recruitment team—four handsome men, two sexy ladies, and four female students in Tianming uniforms—all lined up arrogantly beside his booth.
The contrast with Zhang Yang's tiny setup couldn't be starker.
What infuriated Zhang Yang most was that they were also recruiting for senior nursing and pharmacy positions—the exact same ones he was seeking—and offering better pay!
That bastard was clearly doing it on purpose. Zhang Yang had been ready to leave, but seeing that, his anger flared up again.
