Chapter 290: This Lady Is Just Arrogant (Part 2)
"Throw the knives on the floor! Kneel down!" a leading police officer shouted loudly.
Zhang Yang frowned, motioned for Lulu and Gao Qi to drop their knives, then dropped his own, but he did not kneel.
"Kneel!" that officer shouted again with a cold face.
"Officer, we are the victims." Zhang Yang looked at the thugs lying all over the floor. His words sounded hesitant. No matter how you looked at it, the ones lying there looked more like the victims.
"Victims?" The officer looked at the three stunning beauties behind Zhang Yang, and his expression eased slightly. He probably also felt Lulu and the others didn't look like perpetrators.
"Hey, isn't this Officer Yu?" At this time, Shen Ke, who had been lying on the ground, suddenly spoke. Very awkwardly, he pushed aside a thug pressing on him and climbed up with a filthy face. His white clothes and trousers were covered in blood, his white-rimmed glasses shattered all over the floor, and both his eyes were swollen like macaque monkeys.
"Deputy District Chief Shen…" Officer Yu turned around, and upon realizing it was Shen Ke, his expression changed completely. "What happened to you?"
"H-h-hurry up and arrest these people for me." Shen Ke trembled as he pointed at Zhang Yang, looking so wronged that it could make onlookers cry.
"Deputy District Chief Shen, they did this?" Officer Yu immediately signaled his people to surround Zhang Yang and the other three.
"Yes." Shen Ke stood up awkwardly and nodded. "Officer Yu, don't be fooled by their harmless looks. They're vicious. Weren't you out doing a mountain raid today? I suspect they're in the same gang as those mountain criminals. Don't let any of them escape."
"Ah, criminals?" Hearing that, Officer Yu immediately turned toward Zhang Yang and waved his hand. "Take them all away."
"Wait…" Zhang Yang was speechless and looked at Shen Ke. "Deputy District Chief?"
"What? Scared now? You attacked a government official. Let's see how you die this time." Shen Ke finally felt he had regained dignity. He patted his white clothes and trousers, found the bloodstains impossible to clean, touched his eyes and realized his glasses were gone. Rage surged—he nearly wanted to kill Zhang Yang on the spot.
"Pa!" Before he finished speaking, a sharp pain hit his face. Turning his head, he realized that the big-chested beauty had slapped him—in front of everyone.
"Damn!" Shen Ke was stunned. In front of so many people, even knowing his identity, she dared to slap him.
Everyone froze. Before they could try grabbing Gao Qi, she had already spoken: "Peh! You're worthy of being a government official? You're disgracing the nation. Officer, this pervert saw my chest and tried to molest me. When he failed, he attacked my bodyguard. If you want to arrest someone, arrest him."
"You're talking nonsense!" Shen Ke panicked. Gao Qi's chest was indeed big, and her clothes had been ripped. The way things looked, her claim seemed very believable.
"I'm talking nonsense? Should we pull up the hotel surveillance right now?"
"Uh…" Shen Ke frowned. Although things hadn't happened exactly the way she said, if the footage came out…
Shi Tonghui's situation wouldn't look good either. And Shen Ke being beaten to his knees would also be exposed.
"O-officer Yu, d-don't listen to… this st-stinky woman sp-spouting nonsense." Shi Tonghui crawled out of a pile of bodies, one eye swollen.
His mouth crooked, nose bleeding, one front tooth missing, limping as he walked over. "I-I'm already like this. H-how can you n-not believe D-Deputy District Chief Shen?"
"You are…" Officer Yu stared at Shi Tonghui for a long time before recognizing him. Then his jaw nearly dropped. "My god, isn't this President Shi? Who beat you like this?"
Shi Tonghui slanted his swollen eye toward Gao Qi. He actually didn't know who hit him during the chaos, but Gao Qi was the first to strike him, so he naturally blamed her.
"All these people…" Officer Yu frowned as he looked at the thugs lying everywhere. He recognized several—they were security guards from the Shi family's company building. But there were more than twenty of them! All lying on the floor wailing. Could all this really be the work of one man and three women? He looked at Zhang Yang again.
And as he looked, Zhang Yang became more familiar. Even through the blood on his face, Officer Yu recognized him. Wasn't this Zhang Yang? He had been the focus of today's major operation. Even the National Security Bureau and Special Forces had been deployed to protect him.
And now, this important person was staying in a hotel under his district's jurisdiction—accused by the sons of the deputy district chief and deputy mayor.
But he had heard from frontline colleagues that Zhang Yang had single-handedly wiped out the entire Green Group of the extremely vicious Spade Eight gang. With that in mind, seeing the thugs on the floor wasn't surprising.
But now he was in trouble. Zhang Yang was a public figure, even protected by National Security. He, a mere deputy bureau chief, wasn't qualified to arrest him. That was like plucking a tiger's whiskers.
But if he didn't arrest him… Shi Tonghui was beaten like that. And not just him—Deputy District Chief Shen, still clutching his crotch, was also not someone he could afford to offend. Especially Deputy District Chief Shen—he was in his early thirties and already held that position, backed by the enormous Shen family. Even if Shen Ke wasn't highly ranked within the Shen family, he was still one of them. No one would just watch him get bullied.
So Officer Yu was really in a bind.
Neither side was someone he could afford to offend. Whichever side he angered, he would suffer.
"O-officer Yu, w-what do you mean by this?" Seeing his hesitation, Shi Tonghui became furious. "D-do I need to have my f-father call y-you personally?"
Officer Yu's heart tightened further. Shi Tonghui's father was the vice mayor of Shangyan City—and the official overseeing the police bureau. His boss's boss.
After thinking for a moment, he gritted his teeth, walked up to Zhang Yang, and said: "Mr. Zhang, I'm terribly sorry, but I'm afraid I need you to come with us to assist in the investigation."
"Based on what?" Gao Qi protested immediately. "They wronged us first. Why are we the ones getting arrested?"
"It's not like that. We just need you to cooperate. Look, with so many people lying on the floor, but you all…" Officer Yu looked at the four of them, speechless. Were they even human? Four people had fought more than twenty thugs, won, and left their opponents screaming. And except for Zhang Yang with minor scratches, the three beauties were completely uninjured.
Besides a few scrapes on Zhang Yang, the three beauties didn't even have a scratch.
If they claimed they were bullied, who would believe it?
"Alright, alright." Zhang Yang saw how troubled Officer Yu was and how politely he spoke—and that he had recognized him. Zhang Yang didn't want to cause him more trouble. "I can go with you to cooperate with the investigation, but you must bring up the hotel surveillance as evidence first."
"Of course."
"Good. Then I'll go with you. But let me call someone first. I can go in, but I doubt I'll be leaving tomorrow morning."
Officer Yu felt a stabbing headache. Calling someone? That clearly meant pulling strings.
He really didn't want this job anymore. Damn it. Working overtime only to run into this nightmare.
"Fine, make your call." Officer Yu nodded.
"Wow, wh-what? The suspect gets to make a call for help?" Shi Tonghui protested immediately.
"Thud!"
"Thump!"
Before he finished speaking, Gao Qi kicked him again, sending him sitting directly onto the floor.
Lying on the ground, he hammered the floor wildly. "O-officer Yu, sh-she hit me again!"
Officer Yu was speechless. This fiery woman was truly unreasonable. She even dared hit someone right in front of him. Was there no law in her eyes?
"Mr. Zhang, this young lady…" Officer Yu frowned, unable to bear watching any longer…
"What about this young lady?" A strange voice came from the entrance. "Isn't she doing a good job?"
Everyone turned to look. At the doorway stood a large group—black uniforms, green uniforms, plainclothes. At least thirty people.
Officer Yu rushed forward immediately. The reason was simple: among the people who came was Shi Tonghui's father—Shangyan City's Vice Mayor Shi Shouxun.
And the one who had spoken was a long-haired, gloomy-looking man in his early thirties.
"Vice Mayor Shi…" What shocked Officer Yu even more was that his boss's boss—Vice Mayor Shi—was standing respectfully next to the long-haired man.
What shocked him even more was Vice Mayor Shi's next action. He stormed straight toward Shi Tonghui, who was lying on the ground whining, and kicked him fiercely. "You little bastard! Are you tired of living? How dare you cause trouble here?"
"Why are you here?" Zhang Yang frowned as he looked at Ao Tian—long hair, bloodshot eyes. The guy probably hadn't rested all night.
"How could I not come?" Ao Tian glanced at Vice Mayor Shi scolding Shi Tonghui and said calmly, "I don't want someone I know getting beaten like that."
"Who is he?" Zhang Yang frowned at Shi Tonghui. He had naturally heard Vice Mayor Shi's title, and it seemed he had a close connection with the buzz-cut man. But weren't they supposed to be on the same side?
"The one lying on the floor is Shi Tonghui…" Ao Tian briefly explained the identities of Shi Tonghui and Shen Ke.
"I see. Then why is he scolding him like that?"
"Hmph!" Ao Tian pulled Zhang Yang aside and glanced at Shi Tonghui before sneering. "This is nothing. The real show is just beginning. I'm telling you, starting tonight, a lot of people won't be having a good New Year."
