Chapter 300: The Heart of Goddess Yang

The setting sun dyed the vast sea surface a shimmering gold.

"Teacher, before answering your question, let me tell you a story." Zhang Yang lowered the car window, letting the cold wind brush past. Staring at the empty straight road ahead, his eyes narrowed slightly with a hint of emotion.

Yang Fei didn't speak, but she nodded, whether Zhang Yang saw it or not.

"Tang Qiqi—you know her. She tried to kill me several times. At first, I only wanted to use her. Once I got information about Spade Eight out of her, I planned to hand her over to the police." Zhang Yang paused. In truth, he wasn't entirely sure he would've done that. But if she weren't a Star Mender and if he hadn't slept with her, the chances were eight out of ten that he would've thrown her to Ao Tian to deal with.

"But later, she made a request—she wanted me to help her fulfill a few wishes." Zhang Yang paused. "She wanted me to help elderly people living alone in the mountains. Later, I learned that although she was a killer, she secretly donated all the money she earned to those elderly folks, orphanages, and charities."

"That was when I realized—even the coldest killer has warmth inside. So I went to the mountains to fulfill her wishes. Of course, I won't deny that I had my own motives. But most importantly, what I saw and heard on that trip—"

"Life in the mountains is tough, but not materially." Zhang Yang lowered his gaze. In his mind appeared the scene of dusk descending.

Elderly people leaning on canes, trembling as they sat at their doorways, cloudy eyes fixed longingly on the visitors from afar.

"They're not poor. Some even live in beautiful little houses. But inside those beautiful houses—it's empty. The only ones living inside are seventy- or eighty-year-old elders. They're not truly alone—they have children. But the children work far away. They earn good money, but what's the point if they're never home…"

"Zhang Yang!" Yang Fei's voice turned cold. "Enough. I know what you want to say. But I advise you to give up that idea."

Zhang Yang sighed. He had expected this reaction—maybe even worse. He knew these were not words spoken at the right time.

But he said them anyway—because deep down, he sincerely hoped Yang Fei could reconcile with her father. Not just for that F-level mission.

"Teacher, since you don't want me to say it, I shouldn't. But there's an old saying—'Even a vicious tiger won't eat its cubs.' There is no parent in this world who doesn't love their child."

"Remember the time your Yimao Group stocks plummeted? Your father, desperate, invested all the money he had saved over the years. He even borrowed more—to help you. But in the end, not only did he fail to help, he was left in debt. He just didn't want you to know."

"Stop the car!" Yang Fei clenched her fists. Her proud peaks rose and fell sharply with anger.

"Screech—" Zhang Yang stopped the car and turned to her.

"Zhang Yang, is this why you brought me out today?" Yang Fei glared at him. "Don't think you can make decisions for me just because you think you 'know' me."

With that, she unlocked the door, jumped out, crossed the grass by the roadside, and stormed toward the beach. Standing still on the sand, the icy wind whipped her figure, but she remained unmoving.

Zhang Yang exhaled long, opened the door, and slowly walked to her side.

From behind, he gently wrapped his arms around her.

Yang Fei froze. Her body stiffened. She tried to break free but couldn't.

"Zhang Yang, what are you doing?" Her voice trembled.

"Nothing. Go back to the car. It's cold here."

"Don't tell me what to do!" Tears suddenly streamed down her face. She turned around and pounded his chest with her small fists. "It's your fault! If not for you, would I be like this? Why tell me all that? You think I'll listen to you?"

Zhang Yang didn't speak or fight back. He held her tightly and let her hit him.

After a while, when she was exhausted, he loosened his hold, turned her body toward him, and said calmly, "Let's go back to the car."

"Let me go!" Yang Fei gasped. Dusk had fallen; her breath turned white in the cold air.

Zhang Yang inhaled deeply and lifted her into his arms, walking straight toward the car.

"Zhang Yang, y-you… put me down!"

He didn't reply. After placing her inside, he closed the door.

Then started the engine.

"Where are you taking me?"

"The hospital."

"I'm not going!"

"Then your family villa."

"Zhang Yang! You—"

"Teacher, do you remember when we first met?"

"No!" she snapped.

"I remember. It was when Sister Jing asked me to meet you on a blind date. Then a meteorite fell from the sky and smashed a big hole in your BMW Z4…"

"Later, you misunderstood and thought I wanted to take advantage of Lulu…"

…

"Remember once, your sister misunderstood me. You stepped forward to defend me—even raised your voice at her."

"You became my English teacher. You taught me foreign languages. I used to never score above sixty in English—now I can speak fluently."

"You said you were going abroad—Madrid, Spain. I didn't want you to leave, so I altered your résumé. You probably realized it was me… but you didn't pursue it."

"Why bring these up?" Yang Fei finally broke her long silence, irritated.

"Teacher, meeting you is fate. I wronged you before, yet you forgave me and even helped me. If that's possible—how much more so with your father?"

"I know you don't want to hear this. I know the past ten years are hard for you to face." Zhang Yang sighed and patted her shoulder. "But eventually, you'll have to face it—if not now, then later."

"Busybody." Yang Fei turned her head toward the window, clearly sulking. But the fact she said this made Zhang Yang's heart ease.

Zhang Yang stepped on the gas. The car sped up.

"Where are you going now?" Yang Fei asked anxiously.

"To the hospital. Unless you prefer your family home?"

"Zhang Yang, let me be clear—I am NOT going home!" she warned.

"Even if you wanted to, I wouldn't let you."

"Hmph!"

At the hospital, Yang Jing was surprised to see Yang Fei coming along. Yang Fei and Meixin had gotten along well in Shangyan, so they chatted. Taking the chance, Yang Jing pulled Zhang Yang aside.

Whispering, she asked, "Why is Feifei with you?"

"To translate for me, of course."

"I don't buy it. Meixin's English is bad, but she can manage basic communication."

"Sister Jing, you're so smart." Zhang Yang leaned closer, whispering by her ear, "If you promise me one thing, I'll tell you."

Yang Jing felt his warm breath and saw his mischievous grin—she immediately knew he had bad intentions. She shook her head. "No way. You're definitely up to something."

"Sister Jing, you misunderstand. I really have no selfish motive this time. It's all for you."

"Impossible." Yang Jing glanced at Yang Fei chatting inside, curiosity rising. "Come on, tell me."

"Then I'll reveal just a little." Zhang Yang said with a grin.

"Mm."

"Do you want Feifei to go home to see your grandfather and father?" Zhang Yang stared at her mesmerizing eyes. Yang Jing was the very definition of mature beauty—radiant cheeks, breathtaking curves, and a figure that made fantasies bloom.

Hearing this, Yang Jing's eyes lit up. Then she glared suspiciously. "You have that ability?"

"Whether I do depends on you, Sister Jing."

"Me?" Yang Jing frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Sister Jing, if I bring Teacher Feifei to your home, I need you to—"

"No!" Yang Jing cut him off before he finished. She had already seen his intentions in his eyes. This guy definitely wanted to take advantage of her.

"I haven't even said it yet."

"No need—you only have one thing on your mind." Yang Jing glared at him. "No. Absolutely not."

"What? I wasn't thinking of doing that…" Zhang Yang looked genuinely shocked. "I heard your family has an acupuncture technique—some kind of massage kneading skill. My waist feels injured from the Shangyan trip. If I help you, could you help massage me?"

"Ah…" Yang Jing hadn't expected that. Feeling embarrassed, she nodded quickly. "Okay, that's fine."

"Then… in your room?"

"Alright. But don't you dare try anything funny."

"Of course not. I'm always well-behaved." Zhang Yang said shamelessly.
