"The spirit of the dragon has grown restless. You will not consume me from within!" ~ Lee Sin, The Blind Monk
Hey! Back with another chapter! I'll be honest with you, I had a long weekend but I just spent it all lazing about and catching up on shows. Didn't have the motivation to write, even though I have all the chapters till the end planned out (Long train travels give you enough time to plan). But I'm back now and hopefully I stick to the schedule.
Also... I'm kinda confused on the lore here. Xin Zhao's spear should be have some amount of Petricite (I think. Can't see it in the comics or on the wiki. Kinda odd that the seneschal does not have Petricite in his weapon.). Added it in anyway.
Finally, I changed up the storyline for the game a little since writing wave after wave of combat made little to no sense in written format.

Enjoy!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of the demons near the statue broke off from the group and ran toward Xin Zhao.
He pulled his arm back and thrust his spear forward. It pierced through one cleanly.
The other two spun around and swung their blades at him from either side. Xin Zhao flicked the tail end of his spear upward and let go, in one smooth motion, he sidestepped into the blade on the right. With his hand coiling around the arm of the demon, he pulled it toward the blade on the other side.
SCHINK
The demon found itself impaled on the blade of the other demon.
Xin Zhao dashed to the side and picked up his spear and gave it a short swing. The third demon lost its head.
He couldn't instantly use his spear in the earlier exchange due to one reason. Demons faded away after being killed. But it took a couple seconds.
Swinging a spear with a body attached would not only slow him down but also weaken the blow.
His eyes fell on the demons around the shrine as he turned around.
The Shrine of the Grovemother.
The myths of the Grovemother said that her desire to live a mortal life had led her to cast aside her very nature. She had spent the rest of her mortal life providing for those around her.
"What are they doing to the shrine?" He muttered as he made his way to them. Raising his spear, he held it forward in front of him.
WHOOOSH
His eyes widened.
"GA'RA RAI!"
A woman ran past him. Her flowy pants fluttering in the wind as she blitzed toward the demons. Seven metal orbs floated around her, glowing blue with magic.
She stepped onto on of the balls and flew into the air. Pushing her arms out she roared, "AI'MOUTAI JAI YON!"
A blast of bluish-purple magic rushed out and slammed into all of the demons, instantly wiping out about half of them and leaving the rest heavily injured.
"SAR'AHN OM!" She called as she fell to the ground. The orbs around her spun rapidly and shot forward into the demons, decimating the remnants.
The woman then turned to face him.
She had lavender hair, with a blue Ionian half vest that left her stomach exposed. Her forehead sported a traditional Ionian paint and from the earlier glimpse, so did her back. On her wrists were large bracelets.
"A Kinkou?" Xin Zhao asked before frowning, "But Master Kennen said that Koeshin was the only temple here....."
The woman's eyes sharpened, "You know Kennen."
Xin Zhao held his spear in her direction, "And you haven't introduced yourself."
"I must speak with him." Her voice displayed a sense of urgency, ignoring his statement.
Relenting, Xin Zhao answered her, "He has gone to confer with the Eye of Twilight. He did not tell me why."
The woman sighed, her eyes closing, "More talk. Though the lands have changed..... my brethren have not." Her eyes opened, "Still.. you know him. I suppose you can be trusted."
Xin Zhao's spear did not budge, "The same cannot be said to you. How can I know that you will not deceive me?"
"Perhaps my skill in battle will convince you." The woman answered, the metal balls floating around her protectively.
"Your skill in battle is going to convince me of your character?" Xin Zhao asked, "Do you consider me a fool?"
The woman stared at him.
"Who are you?"
She waited for a moment, staring at him, "Yunara."
"Named after the devoted Shrine Maiden." Xin commented. "Why are you here?"
"To stop the demons." She answered.
He nodded as he looked away from her, spotting demons in the distance, "Then follow me. Lets kill them all."
The two ran toward the next group of demons which were instantly decimated by the two, only to move onto the next group of demons. A continuous advance.
"You haven't told me your name." Yunara pointed out.
"Xin Zhao."
She gave him a glance, "You have a name of the First Lands. But your armor. Your clothing. And that spear. They are foreign."
"Demacian." Xin Zhao answered as he introduced the tip of his spear to a demon, "The spear was given to me by the previous king."
"It seems serviceable against the demons at least." She said as she waved her arms in a circle, the orbs shot forward and formed a circle around the demons and then slowly spun inward, crushing them.
Xin Zhao huffed at her almost effort less kills, "Enchanted by the spirits through their blessings." He then stilled for a moment, "Though Petricitemight be a factor."
"Petricite?"
"Something native to Demacia. Dangerously effective against magic."
She spun around in shock, "You can stop magic?"
"Easily." He replied, "The entire city is made of it. All our weapons are made of it. Some parts of the heavy armor as well."
Yunara stared at him, as if reevaluating his worth.
"Your weapon is.... unique." Xin Zhao pointed.
She smirked, "Not everyone is enticed by the pointiest stick."
He frowned at the offhanded remark.
"There is something wrong with the forest ahead." Yunara continued, "But we have to go through in order to reach the village down there faster."
"Lead on." Xin Zhao commanded.
Yunara scoffed as she picked up the pace but the attitude quickly faded as they entered the forest, "There's..... corruption. This is far worse than I could have imagined."
Xin Zhao looked around trying to recognize what she was alluding to.
"Listen to the trees. They echo with the haunted laugh of the demons. We have to hurry and put a stop to this before the forest dies." Yunara explained as she dashed through the forest, seemingly following some sort of trail she had managed to pick up on.
The two destroyed a couple more waves of demons when an unholy sound erupted from their surroundings.
SCKREEEEEESSSEEE
The sound of something heavy skittering and somehow also flowing at the same time
The two halted and raised their weapons.
"What was that?" Xin Zhao asked.
Yunara shut her eyes, feeling the magic around her, "That doesn't feel like magic from the First Lands. That is no spirit." She opened her eyes, "It is not the one that has caused this.... imbalance."
"Then we can face it later." Xin Zhao muttered, "Focus on what's causing this first."
Yunara nodded before following the trail she had picked up on.
The two stopped at a clearing.
"It is here." Yunara spoke aloud.
"Sssssllaayyying mmmmyyy cchiilllldrrrreeenn I seee."
A demon walked into the clearing. Its body in the shape of the Grovemother. But her face was covered with a mask.
"A pretender." Xin Zhao calmly spoke.
Rage filled Yunara, "You are no Grovemother. And your children are nothing but parasites, feeding off the land and its people."
"Wee ssssimmplyyyy seeek happpinnesss." The demon hissed, "Aaand yyouuu sttannd innn ourrr wayyy. Nooo prrrooblemmm, thheeee taastee of youuurr soulllssss wwooulld suuffficcee."
The Demonic Pretender raised her fists as a purple lotus bloomed on top of her and demons rose from their surroundings.
"Nu vi'en teh'rra!" Yunara yelled as she punched the air.
Her orbs broke off from near her and slammed into the demons. She followed it up with consecutive punches, sending all the orbs bouncing off between the demons.
"Break apart!" Xin Zhao roared as he stepped forward spinning his spear around him, the ranged attacks from the demons breaking apart as they hit the spear. In an instant he appeared next to the Demonic Pretender and stabbed into the lotus.
A singular petal from the lotus broke off.
"Hhhowww?" The demon screeched.
Xin Zhao smirked, "Here's a tip." He stabbed forth, "And a spear behind it."
