Ibaaros pulled his hand back and let loose his harpoon. His target?
Xolaani.
He hated Xolaani more than anyone else. He had been close to killing her before their corruption had been completed, almost granting her death before immortality took hold.
Naganeka rose from the mountain she stood under, the earth turning over as she stood up, an arrow knocked onto the ballista. She fired it at Ibaaros.
Ibaaros did not bother defending, the previous sneak attack had only managed to form a small crack on his bone armor. This arrow pushed him back but nothing more.
Meanwhile his harpoon had found its mark.
Xolaani's leg had been skewered. Despite his bad footing, Ibaaros pulled his hand back, a rope made of sinew materialized connecting the harpoon to his hand.
Xolaani was plucked out of the air and pulled toward Ibaaros, who spread his hands open wide to grab her.
"HA!" Caalyx roared with laughter, "THIS IS NOT A BATTLEFIELD FOR TEAM UPS!" He swung his spear at the advancing Aatrox.
Despite the spear's speed, Aatrox dodged the downward swing by tilting his body. His sword raced up, along the shaft of the spear and into Caalyx's torso.
CLANG
A shield stood between his sword and the torso.
Aatrox flew back.
Caalyx looked at Aatrox and then at his shield, "I suppose with the shield I am too much for you to handle...." The spiral flesh of his face gave way to a wide smile, "Let me make it a little easier for you." He said as he threw his shield out.
Aatrox raised his sword in front of him as Caalyx disappeared.
BANG
The spear met sword, as Caalyx appeared above him, the sword catching the spear in a downward swing.
"A spear against a sword." Caalyx said as he floated further away from Aatrox, "Tell me... how can you face the larger reach? Your previous excuse of a larger sword won't matter now."
Aatrox sped forward, his hand swinging the sword down on top of Caalyx. Caalyx blocked the attack the shaft of the spear. Aatrox spun around, swinging the sword sideways, aiming to cleave Caalyx in half.
With a powerful flap of his wing, Caalyx rose higher into the sky causing the attack to miss.
But Aatrox did not give up, flicking the sword into the sky, he flapped his wings reaching higher into the sky, twisting his whole body and bringing the sword down onto Caalyx. Caalyx responded with an upward thrust of meet the attack but it was too late to generate enough force to block the attack.
Caalyx hit the ground, sending a massive dust cloud up into the sky.
"Why did you go all silent Aatrox?" Caalyx's voice came from within the dust. "Where is the death you were meant to be granting me?"
Aatrox rose up in the air, maintaining a clear distance from the dust cloud.
"Are you running away?" Caalyx's voice grated against his ears, mocking him. "After all your words and the destruction you have caused throughout this world.... are you running from me?"
An invisible force gripped him in place.
The dust broke away as Caalyx slowly rose to meet him. "You have taken much from the world. Why don't you give your life to sate it?"
Aatrox grinned at him, "You cannot grant me death. It is impossible."
"And this is the first sentence you have spoke without yelling." Caalyx retorted, "That impossibility has come to pass. Why can't I grant you death? Tell me Aatrox.... do you see my brother participating?"
Aatrox's eyes widened as Caalyx's swing cut through him diagonally. From shoulder to hip, almost completely separating him into two halves. However, Caalyx pulled his spear out before the body was split in two.
He flicked Aatrox to the ground, near a pool of blood.
Meanwhile, his shield flew behind Xolaani and changing directions to saw through Styraatu. She noticed the shield and ran her hand through her harp.
The shield stopped mid air.
She grinned at the result.
But that grin faded away as the blades around the edge of the shield spun rapidly, causing it to shake.
BOOOM
Horaazi used the momentary distraction to send a bolt of magic at her. An arc of blood red lighting sparked toward her and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
Styraatu screeched as the attack burnt her inside out, her blood beginning to boil. But the pain was short lived as Caalyx's shield sawed her in half.
Her harp clattered as the two halves of her body slid to the ground.
Joraal's sword fell toward her head. Horaazi tried to slip to the side but found herself unable to do so. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Styraatu's hand still on the harp, both sides of her body frantically trying to unify.
ZWOOMMMM
Varus's bow thrummed as he let lose an arrow containing pure corruption mixed with blood magic. No bone. No flesh. Just magic. The Void'scorruption and the blood magic curled around each other like two snakes slithering over each other.
Caalyx's shield crashed into Joraal's own, preventing him from raising his shield to block the magical arrow.
The magic hit him.
Joraal found him unable to move. Three blobs of purple magic bobbed around him.
Varus fired another arrow, this one was akin to his first arrow, made of bone and blood.
The arrow connected with Joraal setting off an explosion so massive that is blew up half of Horaazi along with most of Joraal.
Taarosh was not one to let an opportunity slip away, he moved beside Varus and swung his halberd.
SLICE
Varus's legs fell to the ground. And with the legs, so did the rest of his body. Like the other Darkin, Varus did not have wings. he rose to the skies when he pulled on his bow, the magic lifting him up.
He looked up as Taarosh swung his halberd aiming to finish the job but a sudden arrow punctured through his hide, sending his quadruped body falling to the side. The time was enough for Varus's body to reform and create some distance. But there was something preventing a full heal of his injuries.
Corruption. Akin to the one of the Void. But different. Carrying the scent of death. He looked back at Taarosh. Watching his injuries close up. There was a green glow coming from under his flesh.
What was its source he wondered.
Meanwhile, Caalyx's shield intercepted Anaakca's swing at Zaahen. Zaahen's spear slipped under the shield and stabbed into Anaakca. He swung his spear out the other side, cutting open Anaakca's body. The shield flew into the sky and severed Praa's tail.
Her body immediately breaking apart as the fan tumbled to the ground.
"That was all it took?" Caalyx muttered as he watched Aatrox rise up once more. The eye on the shield was granting him vision despite his distance. He also caught sight of a certain Yordle appearing over the edge of the battlefield with a staff in his hand.
Kennen threw the staff on the battlefield.
The final piece had entered.
Blood flowed into the staff as a Darkin began to slowly form around it.
But then a sudden shit occurred, blood and bone arose from the ground form a tower that rose into the sky, flesh forming spires leading up to the tower. The very top of the tower had a fountain that began to flow. Blood poured out of the tower.
Xolaani stood over Ibaaros's broken body.
Her Blood Altar stood tall.
And just like Caalyx, she too began to transform. Her human body broke apart giving way to a snake like wispy body, made of flesh and bone constantly changing. Singular wings sprouted across this snake like body in nonsymmetric patterns. chains of blood connected to a multitude of sickles that emerged from her body. The only part of her body that had not changed was her head.
She roared as the sickles swung around destroying anything and everything indiscriminately.
Anaakca sprinted toward the away from Xolaani, putting as much distance as possible between them. Then he caught sight of something glowing on the ground. His eyes caught sight of more markings around the battlefield in which they had been fighting.
"Stepping out of the ring means you forfeit." A voice called mockingly as he tried to step out of the battlefield.
BOOOM
A large staff appeared out of thin air sending him bouncing across the battlefield, right back into the center only to be cut up by Xolaani's attacks.
"NOW!" Caalyx roared.
Unknown to the combatants, the sky had long turned gray. Thunder rumbled above them, arcs of lighting ran through the clouds.
Wukong brought his arm down.
Lighting obeyed.
The world was dyed white as a beam of pure lighting slammed onto the battlefield hitting every Darkin.
But that wasn't who Caalyx had called out to.
The markings around the battlefield began to glow a bright blue.
"Rune Prison." A calm voice echoed.
Aatrox's head swiveled toward the source, "YOU!"
Ryze stood at the edge, right outside the glowing prison. In his hand was a black stone, a broken rock. There was something inscribed onto the rock, giving the rock an ethereal blue glow.
Everyone within the confines of the battlefield was now stuck within that region.
Ryze met Caalyx's eyes. Or rather where his eyes would have been. Caalyx nodded.
A gigantic magical construct of Ryze appeared above the glowing prison, dwarfing even the largest Darkin. The construct raised on hand and slammed it onto the ground.
All the Darkin looked up.
The Ionians in the distance looked up as well.
SCHWOOOOM
The battlefield was silent.
The Ionians blinked.
The battlefield was no more.
The Darkin had disappeared.
