It had taken her a full day to reach the capital on time for the meeting but she was there. Sleep deprived, Covered in sand and half-mad from the desert heat. But she was in the capital. And now she was walking down the moonlit streets of Alubarna, following the Vivre card.
'This is risky.' She kept thinking to herself. All of her survival instincts that she had built into herself after twenty years on the run were practically screaming at her that this was some sort of trap. But she pressed on, the tiny burning ember of hope that had been ignited in her heart pushing her forward.
She was taking precautions of course. She used her devil fruit to sprout eyes on every corner she turned around, and hidden beneath her white coat she had sprouted an additional four arms, two holding flintlocks and two keeping a rifle pressed against her back.
She followed the direction of the vivre card until it led her to somewhere she was not expecting. The Arabasta royal family's crypt. Robin studied the building for a moment before glancing back toward the viver card in her hand. It has stopped moving meaning the owner was nearby.
Her light-blue eyes narrowed beneath the brim of her hat, scaling the immediate area only to find nothing.
She prepared to use her devil fruit to look around more but stopped when she heard a voice.
"Weren't expecting it to lead you here were you?"
Robin turned around slowly, and froze when she laid eyes on the speaker.
Leaning against a nearby wall was a young man. What made her freeze was the marine coat draped over his shoulders.
'Trap! It was a trap!' her mind raced as she prepared to start firing from her concealed pistols only to stop when the young man raised his hands.
"No need for violence miss Robin. I am a Merine, yes but I am not your enemy." He said. "My name is Carter Davil. I'm someone like you, someone that knows the truth of the World Government's cruelty. As well as probably the only other person on the planet that can read the poneglyph."
Hearing his words, Robin hesitated. "And how can I trust what you're saying is true and that you're not just another CP agent sent to try and capture me?"
Inside her head thoughts were racing.
"I don't blame you for being cautious. I would be too." he said lowlining his hands. "But believe me…"
Without warning, he disappeared from her line of sight. Not even leaving behind a blur of motion. Before she could even panic, she felt a blade pressed to her neck. "If I wanted you dead or captured. You would be." She heard the voice whisper in her ear from behind.
'T-that speed!" She didn't dare turn her head to meet his gaze. 'He's telling the truth. If he wanted to capture me that speed alone would do the job.'
Without even having to ask to be released, the young man moved his blade away from her neck and sheathed it. "But like I said. I have no interest in capturing you."
He pivoted on his heel and began walking towards the entrance to the crypt. "I'm going to get the poneglyph stashed here. Are you coming?"
His carefree actions caught Robin off guard. But after a moment, she hesitantly followed.
—Carter POV—
'Thank fuck that worked!'
I celebrated mentally as I sensed Robin begin to follow me down into the crypt.
'Good thing i took this thing from savitar' I thought looking at the speed ring on my finger. I'm fast with soru on my own but this thing lets me move so fast it looks like I'm teleporting.'
It was a bit of a risk but hopefully showing her that I was: 1. A marine and 2. I could capture her at any time but chose not to, which will give me a bit of an edge in gaining her trust.
I slowed my pace so that she could catch up and once we were walking as close to side by side as she would come I decided to set my plan (that i definitely had and was not just winging it) into motion.
"I assume you have questions," her gaze flickered from akuma-ketsujin hanging at my waist, (the sword that had been pressed to her throat a mere few minutes earlier) to my face. "Ask away."
Her face remained a mask of cautious neutrality but I could tell she was thinking carefully about what to ask.
"Where did you learn to read poneglyph? You're too young to be a fellow escapee from Ohara and I've never heard of anywhere else researching the ancient texts."
"I was given this ability when I first arrived in this world. Along with a few others." I answered honestly.
Now you may be thinking. Carter! What the hell are you doing!? Why are you telling her you're not from this world!?
Simple answer: I won't be able to lie to her. This woman had been on the run for fourteen years at this time. There was no way she wouldn't see through any lie I came up with.
Besides, it's Robin. If there is one person in the one piece word you could entrust a secret to, it was her.
In the absolute worst case scenario, I hypnotize her with my sharingan and keep her prisoner until I can get my hands on the memo memo no mi to erase her memory of this conversation.
Robin, unaware of my possible plotting, gave me a quizzical look. "You make it sound like you came from another world?"
"That's because I do." I said matter of factly and turned back towards her. As soon as the words left my mouth, Robin's eyes narrowed, searching my face for any sort of dishonestly, only for her eyes to widen when she found none.
"H-how is that possible?" Robin hesitated for a moment before asking but her shock was eventually overridden by her natural curiosity.
I shrugged. "I won't get into the specific details but I died in my old world due to a mistake of two higher entities and was given a new life here as compensation. Got a few powerful abilities and knowledge of this world's past and future as well. More specifically the past and future of key individuals, yourself included. Also we're here." I explained as we arrived in the chamber at the end of the tomb standing directly in front of the two great doors leading to the poneglyph chamber.
I could feel Robin's scrutinising gaze on my back. "If you don't believe me that's fine, I can prove it." I turned back to face her, leaning my body against the massive door behind me. "I can demonstrate some of the unique abilities I received, or you can ask me something that only someone with my knowledge would know."
She studied me for a moment, I couldn't imagine the amount of thoughts flickering behind her yes but it was definitely a lot.
"First, tell me what abilities you possess." She looked at me expectantly for answers.
I nodded. "The first is my ability to gain treasures from other worlds. I have thirteen if you would like to see them. Second is my ability to read poneglyphs. Third is the ability to infuse devil fruits, the ability to into objects. And fourth: the ability to store objects in my own personal pocket dimension.
I have a few more but I gained those through other means here in this world. A few of them are: the ability to create and control plants, the ability to generate dark lightning, the ability to create and control tungsten, and the ability to cast illusions and perfectly copy the movements of others."
She stared at me for a while. Her face conveyed surprise. "That is… quite a lot more than I was expecting. And you say you have even more?" she asked.
I once again nodded. "Yes, and I'm gaining more as well."
She remained silent for a while before speaking up again "You said you can infuse devil fruits into objects. What does that entail?"
"It means I can infuse a devil fruit into an object so that the objects gain the abilities of the fruit. If I infuse a paramecia type it gives the item the power of that fruit." I held up the ring on my finger. "I infused the ring with the Hayai-hayai no mi. By wearing it I gain the power of the fruit without needing to eat it."
She stared at the ring in fascination. "So that's how you were able to move so quickly."
"Correct, although I'm still much faster than you without it considering I'm a near-master of the marine technique: soru."
I was actually a near-master of two of the six rokushiki techniques. Soru, and Geppo. But I was sure once I got back to marineford I'd be able to become a master of all six by using my sharingan.
"Anyway, for zoans if I infuse an object with the fruit the object will gain the intelligence of whatever animal the fruit represents and the object will be able to shift forms at will. I haven't tried it on a logia yet so I have no idea what will happen if I infuse one into an object."
Robin hummed and thought for a moment, bringing her hand up to run her chin in contemplation.
A moment later she did something I did not expect. She reached behind her back and pulled a rifle from underneath her coat. "Prove that ability to me and answer one question for me. In exchange, I will help you with whatever you need me for. If you really can read the poneglyph, I assume it has nothing to do with using me to find the ancient weapons?" she said, holding out the rifle for me to take, her intention quite clear.
I smirked. She was testing the waters.
"Of course I don't need you for that. I already know the locations of two of them." I casually revealed, causing her eyes to widen.
"What I want is simple. You are someone I have knowledge of, past and future knowledge. You are intelligent and you have the potential to be powerful. You have a similar goal to my own goal to know the true history of this world, and to overthrow the celestial dragons."
"I also know you have a sizable grudge against the world government for the deaths of your people. All I want is someone I can trust, an ally to help me with my true goals while I am embedded in the marines. A friend I know won't stab me in the back. And who better to help me than the 'Devil Child' herself?"
There was more truth than bullshit in this statement. I genuinely wanted to be her friend, not just an ally. She was one of my favorite characters in my past life, and one of the few people on this planet that had a functional brain with no obsession to get in the way of their mind.
'The fact that she's attractive is also a bonus.'
I took the rifle and accessed my inventory. Before her very surprised eyes I pulled the Yagi-Yagi no mi from the pocket dimension. Although to her it appeared it came out of thin air.
I chose the yagi-yagi no mi for one reason. I had no other use for it. It was a basic zoan and an ordinary goat at that. If it were a mountain goat I might have had a better use in mind but this one was not very useful.
Wasting no more time, I used the skill. Just like before the fruit dissolved into light and flowed into the rifle.
For a moment nothing happened. But then the gun began to shudder. In an instant the rifle threw itself out of my grip and clattered to the ground and began to change from.
Before my eyes and Robin's shocked gaze the rifle transformed from a gun into a goat. It was roughly the height of my waist without accounting for its large curled horns, and the height of my chest with them taken into account.
"Baaah!" it let out a cheerful cry.
"Hey there little one," I belt down to its eye-level. "I'm Carter, and this is Robin." I gestured to the still shellshocked looking woman beside me.
"Your name is Pan, I want you to keep an eye on Robin for me. That ok with you?"
The now named Pan let out another "baa" and nodded before it leapt into my arms, transforming back into its rifle form in the process. I caught it and noticed a new change to the gun. Bending from the butt of the rifle were two structures resembling the horns of a goat.
Without another word I handed Pan out for Robin to take. Only she just stared at it. "You want me to take it back? You just gave up a devil fruit to make it. Are you sure?" it was clear that she genuinely could not fathom what I was offering.
"Yeah, it was your rifle to begin with. And I've got more than enough devil fruits. One basic zoan doesn't set me back at all." I said as she finally took the gun. She looked at it for a long while before smiling.
"Thank you Pan, please take care of me." she patted the rifle's side and slung it over her shoulder.
She gave me a smile and I returned the favor. "Alright , let's get the rock and go." I said, pushing open the massive doors and walking in. Robin followed behind me, resting her hand on Pan.
The stone was a sight to see. A massive blue stone cared so perfectly I doubted there was a single uneven edge. 'Man, Kozuki craftsmanship is really no joke huh?'
And there, on the massive cube's face was the message.
[ Deep Beneath Wano's lone mountain, lies the resting king of the underworld.
His power too great, they sealed him there. To awaken him would mean disaster.
This is the great ship: Pluton. To seek him out would mean death. ]
"Quite ominous isn't it?" Robin commented with a bit of disappointment in her voice. Not surprising since she hadn't been able to find any other poneglyphs for years at this point.
"Yeah, could have just said it's under Mount Fuji." I agreed.
I walked up to the stone and placed my hand on it. "Mine now." the spine disappeared into my inventory.
I turned back to robin who was now staring almost mournfully at the place where the stone had been.
"So, what do you say Robin? Want to team up?" I asked.
She looked at me, then back to the place where the poneglyph had been.
"Say, does your knowledge of this world extend to the locations of other poneglyphs?" she asked. A flicker of hope igniting in her eyes.
I met her gaze with a smirk. "Yes, and if you join me. I promise you can have every last one of the thirty poneglyphs scattered throughout our word all to yourself."
The thought for a moment. "Very well then. Lets see where this partnership can take us, Carter Davil."
A gleeful glint danced in my eyes. "A pleasure to have you aboard, Miss Nico Robin." At that moment I heard a 'Ding!' and my system's window opened.
