Chapter 140 - Throne of Apotheosis

"Sigh..."

Just then, an older stall owner to Seraphine's right let out a long sigh. "As expected of a world-renowned guild. Royal truly is powerful."

"Is that so?"

Seraphine glanced at his ID... Ah, it was 『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』.

"I've heard so much talk, but just how strong are they, really?"

"Hmm? You don't know?"

『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』 glanced at the level tag above Seraphine's head and had a sudden epiphany. "Oh, I see. You're a newbie."

Seeing a newcomer asking for advice, the shopkeeper's urge to mentor flared up. He immediately began to explain:

"You probably don't know since you just joined, but the instances scattered across the game world are divided into seven difficulty tiers.

Normal mode is the base. But in Elite mode, both bosses and mobs instantly gain 30 levels. In Commander mode, everything jumps by 60 levels.

Beyond that, you have Danger mode, Insane mode, Nightmare mode, and finally, the highest difficulty, God-Slaying mode."

"Is that so?"

Seraphine did a quick calculation and guessed, "If it follows that pattern, then in God-Slaying mode, the Bosses and mobs would gain 180 levels?"

"No, no, no," 『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』 shook his head. "They instantly gain 300 levels!"

"Ah. Interesting."

Seraphine excelled in calculation, whispering, "The developers of Brilliant Games certainly know how to torment players."

"Tell me about it. That damn bastard Coo," the man cursed before continuing. "God-Slaying mode only exists in high-level instances above Level 200. The number of teams that have cleared them is minuscule, but the Royal Guild pulled it off. That alone shows their power.

You have to remember, instances limit the number of players who can enter, and they don't always allow you to bring an entire interstellar fleet inside to blast everything.

So, a player's individual combat strength is crucial. According to the veterans on the forum, Royal has quite a few players whose personal combat power is equal to a Star Destroyer."

The man had really hit his stride now. Without Seraphine needing to prompt him, he blathered on incessantly:

"Let me tell you, level isn't the most important thing for a player. It's gear, items, and skills.

Especially those Extra Skills that don't have usage limits. If you're lucky enough to snag a truly overpowered Extra Skill, damn, you'll ascend on the spot!"

"I see."

Seraphine crossed her arms and asked with a grin, "So, are massive guilds like Royal generally quite arrogant?"

『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』 laughed along. "No, not just 'quite' arrogant. They are incredibly arrogant."

Seraphine tilted her head slightly. "Doesn't anyone fight back? Like... wiping out the guild?"

"Wiping out the guild?"

The man shook his head solemnly. "Almost impossible. Unless another, stronger guild makes a move, even a small guild is beyond the power of solo players to destroy."

Seraphine leaned over to pick through the items on the stall, asking casually, "Why is that?"

『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』 explained, "It's like this: according to the official rules, to truly destroy a guild, you have to wipe out every single one of its bases across various planets, whether they're military bases, industrial production hubs, research centers, or resource integration facilities. Not a single one can be left standing.

At the same time, within a 120-hour window, you have to kill at least 50% of the total guild membership and, finally, take down the Guild Leader.

Setting aside whether solo players even have that kind of firepower, just the time spent traveling back and forth through the vastness of space would kill you from exhaustion."

Seraphine picked out an item and remarked, "Such a hassle."

"Exactly. Take the Royal Guild for instance," the man continued. "They supposedly have at least a hundred million bases of various sizes and over two billion members. Their leader, 『 Royal Cold Youth 』, is among the top tier of players. Wiping them out is impossible. It just can't be done."

"...Honestly, the name 'Royal Cold Youth' is pretty edgy," Seraphine remarked offhandedly.

"I think so too," 『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』 agreed with a nod.

After steadying her thoughts, Seraphine asked, "What's the name of the planet you come from?"

"Aquamarine. I'm from the Central Plains Federation."

『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』 laughed. "Heh, I knew you'd ask that. Almost every newbie is curious about where everyone comes from."

He then proceeded to explain the fact that every player in Brilliant Games hailed from various parallel-spatiotemporal Earth civilizations.

This confirmed Seraphine's earlier suspicions.

"If we go by the official Brilliant Games data, just this single server can support a concurrent online capacity of one hundred nonillion players.

And according to this player, 'Little Sister on the Boat-Bow,' the number of players from each Earth civilization ranges from tens of thousands to hundreds of millions... so..."

Seraphine mused inwardly, "Factor in the other 998 servers, and it means they've connected anywhere from an octillion to tens of nonillions of parallel spacetimes.

Hmm. Such a grand undertaking... what exactly is this Dimensional Artist Mr. Coo after?

Could he be... a six-dimensional lifeform like the Annihilation Traveler?"

After a moment of reflection, Seraphine cut off these useless thoughts. She picked up a small booklet from the stall and asked, "How much for this?"

"Eh?"

『 Little Sister on the Boat-Bow A-A 』 looked down, puzzled. "That's an Extreme Challenge Speedrunning Guide. You're only Level 25; what do you want with that?"

"Haha, it'll be useful."

Seraphine smiled. "How much?"

DING!!!

Suddenly, the infinite sky erupted with divine light once again. A distant, majestic voice declared serenely:

"The Thrones of the Gods have stood vacant for far too long, long enough that the countless lives across the cosmos can no longer endure it. To maintain the stability of "Brilliant Games", brave heroes, take up the trial, ascend the Divine Throne, and become true Gods!"

The divine voice vanished, immediately replaced by an official system announcement:

"Effective immediately: Any player or guild that clears the three Level 300 Supreme Instances, [Mechanical Sanctuary], [Primal Abyss], and [Cataclysmic Firmament], on God-Slaying Mode and defeats the three Ultimate Bosses: the Mecha-God, the Primordial Demon-Ancestor, and the Emperor of Decay... and retrieves the Divine Artifacts that only manifest at this difficulty: the Mecha-God Core (Unique), the Divine Spark of All Evil (Unique), and the Emperor's Head (Unique)... and delivers these three artifacts to the system, will complete the [Throne of Apotheosis] quest.

During this period, the entrance restrictions for the three Supreme Instances are lifted. Entry is possible from any point along the instance boundaries.

The rewards for completing this quest are as follows:

20,000 Free Attribute Points, 1,000 Skill Points, 100,000,000 Currency, 400 Level-5 Gems, 2,000 Enhancement Stones, the Doomsday Horn Cannon (Super-Mythic), the Genesis Engine (Super-Mythic), the Heaven Dreadnought (Super-Mythic), Yahweh's Proverb Divine-Realm Bio-Armor (Super-Mythic), and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Modular Colossal Mecha (Super-Mythic).

Furthermore, the player's ID will be granted the 'God' prefix.

God-tier players may organize Legions to shatter cosmic barriers and conquer other spacetimes (Servers)."

The system announcement ended, and the sky's radiance gradually dimmed.

Below, the masses of players were left reeling from the sheer scale of the rewards.

"Damn! "Brilliant Games" is going all out!"

"We're going to heaven, boys!"

"You can enter from any corner? Heh, let's see how those big guilds try to gatekeep the instances now."

"And delivering the three Divine Artifacts to the system completes the quest... I bet those artifacts can't be bound to an inventory."

"What are you saying?"

"It means it's about who has the fastest hands and the coldest heart."

"Hiss... the respawn points are going to be clogged with bodies."

The fervor wasn't limited to Azure Flame; countless worlds across the entire server were plunged into heated, chaotic debate.

The Game Forum was exploding. Threads flashed into existence and were buried just as quickly, too fast to even read.

But none of this concerned Seraphine.

She wove through the frantic crowds to a quiet corner, her gaze thoughtful as she looked at the open booklet in her hand:

"The Speedrunner's Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Crushing Instance Bosses"

...

Within the vast reaches of Server 375, countless types of planets existed.

Some were searing, some freezing, some lush, and some desolate.

Azure Flame, the planet where Seraphine "started," was so barren it lacked resources, and its urban development consisted of only a single city.

But this didn't mean Azure Flame lacked signs of civilization outside of that ancient city.

On the contrary, there were many.

Scattered irregularly across the vast desert surrounding the city were hundreds of NPC towns and even more NPC villages. These settlements were filled with countless, obscure side quests, enough to keep a completionist player running back and forth until the end of their days without ever finishing them all.

Furthermore, on the southern edge of the Passionate Great Desert, which encompassed the city and its myriad settlements, lay the ruins of a gargantuan city, blanketed in intense nuclear radiation.

These sprawling, dark ruins, abandoned for untold centuries, were haunted by countless radioactive wraiths and held a multitude of related quests. This area was a vital source of experience and resources for the players of Azure Flame.

Deep within these ruins, surrounded by swarming wraiths, Seraphine suddenly appeared outside a dark manor enveloped in a massive light screen.

-22, -25, -18, -21, -24... Trapped in the intense radiation, her health bar flickered incessantly.

CLINK!

"Congratulations, you have discovered the instance [Horror Manor].

This area is suitable for a party of players Level 31-60. Please proceed with caution.

Instance Summary:

Since Old Master Chu's death, his estate has fallen into eternal silence.

Yet, whenever a thunderstorm strikes, the sounds of incessant weeping, angry shouts, and shrill laughter echo from within the Chu Mansion.

Be careful, within this manor filled with rot and radiation... there are no living souls!"

"Select Difficulty: Normal, Elite."

"Proceed? Yes / No."

Seraphine casually selected 'Normal' and clicked 'Yes'.

It wasn't that she feared higher difficulties; it was simply a random choice. Seraphine's gaming philosophy prioritized experience over pure grinding.

BANG!!

The thick, rusted iron gates swung open. Shrouded in roaring fire-currents, Seraphine strode coldly into the gloomy manor.

She had barely taken a few steps...

"RAAAAGH!"

A radioactive wraith, green light and black blood leaking from its facial orifices, clad in tattered dark blue robes, and covered in blackened bone spikes, let out a piercing shriek and lunged at her.

THUD!

Without even glancing at it, Seraphine stomped her boot into its hideous face, silencing its screech. She vaulted into the air, leaping toward the line of high-walled eaves ahead.

Landing lightly on the thick roof tiles, Seraphine scanned the area.

The sprawling Chu Mansion, spanning over a hundred square kilometers and composed of thousands of guest rooms, flower-gate entryways, spirit walls, courtyards, and corridors, stretched out before her.

"Walking through a place this big... isn't it a hassle?"

Muttering a complaint, Seraphine opened the "Speedrunner's Handbook" and began searching for the location of the instance boss, Old Master Chu.

A few seconds later.

"Found him."

Seraphine tapped a marker onto her mini-map, then leaped from the high rooftop. Activating [Hellfire Crash], she became a streak of boiling flame, tearing through the twisted, dark corridors.

THUD! THUD! THUD! THUD!

The brilliant light and the thunderous sound of her footsteps instantly drew out a massive swarm of radioactive wraiths from every shadowy corner.

"ROAR!"

"RAAAAGH!"

"HOWL!!!"

Amidst a cacophony of ear-splitting ghostly wails, hundreds of warped, sickly green claws lashed out at Seraphine.

SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!

In seconds, over a thousand HP flickered away from her health bar.

But in that same instant, the bar fully replenished. With infinite health, Seraphine didn't need to worry about damage or danger. She didn't need the precise, tedious stealth routes detailed in the speedrun handbook. All she needed was to bulldoze her way through.

In that moment, she became a supersonic bulldozer. Behind a sonic boom cloud, she tore through walls and rooms, carving a path of rubble, brilliant flames, and black smoke.

CRASH! CRACK! BOOM!

The deafening, continuous explosions resonated through the entire Chu Mansion. The ghostly hordes within were sent into a frantic, anxious state, yet they couldn't even track their target.

With this reckless momentum, it took only five or six seconds for Seraphine to reach her destination.

Deep within the manor sat a sealed courtyard, hung inside and out with ancient, sickly green wind chimes.

BOOM!!

The thick vermillion gates were kicked open, and a humanoid ball of fire lunged inside.

HISS!

The flames extinguished instantly. Seraphine slowly looked up at the coffin-shaped mansion within the courtyard. "This is it."

Confirmation complete, she strode directly into the massive, coffin-shaped residence.

A dozen steps in, she reached the pitch-black central hall, where a single, rusted iron coffin sat.

"Still sleeping, Old Master Chu?"

With a grin, Seraphine strolled over and delivered a heavy, arrogant kick to the front of the coffin lid.

BANG!!

"Time to wake up!"

The coffin shattered.

ROAR!!

Awakened from his slumber by the impact, Old Master Chu was instantly consumed by a mad rage. He bared his sharp, spectral fangs and lunged at Seraphine.

RAAAAGH!!

As he flew through the air, the radioactive demon, his face pale, long green light streaming from his eyes, emitted a visible sonic wave that rippled outward.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

In an instant, the chaotic, rolling sonic wave leveled the ancient mansion and even pulverized the stone courtyard outside.

-170, -120, -150, -130, -125...

Standing in the epicenter, Seraphine was naturally affected; her health bar flickered incessantly under the deafening ghostly shriek.

But she didn't care. With calm deliberation, she pulled out the Nuclear-Powered Butcher's Blade, a "gift" from the hospitable Cyber-Cowboy, and delivered a vicious strike aimed directly at Old Master Chu's hideous, charging face.

CLANG!!

Human and ghost crossed paths.

The [Slash] from her Butcher's Blade barely chipped away at the Old Master's health.

"His skin is that thick?"

Seraphine turned in surprise to look at Old Master Chu.

It was radiation.

Old Master Chu was using radiation.

He had "plated" his hideous face and entire body in a vibrant, solid-looking green radiation field, which acted as a shield to block Seraphine's strikes.

Heaven only knows how intangible nuclear radiation could stop a physical weapon. It was completely unscientific. But that was the game's logic; if you don't like it, quit.

"Even though it feels real from the macro to the micro level, in the end... it's still just a game," Seraphine mused impassively as she circled and slashed at the old ghost. "But while this old thing's defense is solid, his lack of knockback skills is a blessing."

Very good. Energetic.

So, they would just stand there and trade blows. Whoever dodged was a coward.

With that thought, Seraphine stopped using any tactics or evasion. She went toe-to-toe, ready to blast him.

In the expanding ruins deep within the dark Chu Mansion, human and ghost stood their ground and hammered away at each other.

She landed a slash; he landed a claw.

It was a battle of health bars.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!

Metallic clangs and ghostly wails rang out incessantly. After a period of intense, mutual hacking, Old Master Chu, whose health had been chipped down to a sliver by Seraphine's relentless assault, finally reached his limit. He roared at the sky.

ROAR!!

From his distorted, hideously over-extended maw, a thick, foul stream of vibrant green radiation erupted in a violent spray.

SQUELCH! SCREECH! SQUELCH!

Following a series of disgusting squelching sounds and Old Master Chu's agonizing moans, the mass of concentrated nuclear radiation, thick enough to blow any Geiger counter, solidified. It transformed into a forty-meter-tall humanoid wraith, clad in a filthy, ancient red wedding dress and a tattered bridal veil. Bedazzled onto the veil was a pale, life-sized woman's face.

Once this colossal entity formed, it dragged the shriveled remains of Old Master Chu, still connected to its navel by an umbilical cord, and rose onto all fours.

ROAR!

With a muffled growl, the life-sized pale face on the veil suddenly opened a hundred emerald-green, ink-like ghostly eyes, staring coldly at Seraphine.

Simultaneously, a Cantonese song performed by a children's choir inexplicably erupted, echoing through the area:

"Her eyes, her eyes, like shining stars, one look, one look, and the heart trembles; her eyes, her eyes, like shining stars, one look, one look, and the heart trembles more... The bright moon shines, the cold wind blows through the willow alleys, a ghost woman searches for her lover; who will love the desolate Ghost Bride, and join her in stealing a prayer to the moonlight at midnight..."

Hearing this childhood-hauntingly familiar Hong Kong tune, Seraphine's expression turned odd. "Hilarious. Phase two is one thing, but a song?"

As soon as she spoke, the Radioactive Ghost Bride, dominating her field of vision, widened her hundred ghostly eyes and unleashed a volley of emerald light beams.

PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW!

In an instant, everything caught in the crossfire, dozens of guest rooms, walls, and courtyards, was corroded, "melting" into pools of glowing green sludge.

But aside from turning Seraphine's infinite health bar into a flickering strobe light, the attack was useless. To put it into perspective, it was like a Dark Souls player using cheats. No matter how relentless the assault, it was all just visual effects.

ROAR!!

Seeing that her attack had zero effect, the Ghost Bride flew into a rage. From behind her veil, she let out a scream filled with hatred and resentment. Simultaneously, her hundred ghostly eyes wept foul, bloody tears that splattered onto the ground.

HISS!

The solid stone floor was instantly sizzled and pitted by the acidic tears.

ROAR!

With a muffled growl, the Ghost Bride began to crawl toward Seraphine on all fours, like a scene from The Grudge, her body dripping with corrosive blood-tears more potent than concentrated acid. She lashed out with a withered, black, bird-like hand, slamming it down toward Seraphine.

Seraphine ignited her body in roaring flames and sprinted forward. With a single leap, she landed on the back of the Ghost Bride's outstretched hand.

WHOOSH!!

The wind howled as the Ghost Bride raised her other blackened hand to swat her.

SWOOSH!

Seraphine easily evaded the swipe. With another leap, she landed on the Ghost Bride's shoulder, delivered a heavy blow with her Butcher's Blade, and vaulted back to the ground.

RAAAAGHHH!!

Enraged, the Ghost Bride leaped into the air, attempting to crush Seraphine with her massive frame and cut off any path of escape.

Unfortunately for her, with [Hellfire Crash] active, Seraphine's speed was well beyond the sound barrier.

With a casual slide, she shot through the narrow gap between the Ghost Bride's legs as the entity leaped. In an instant, she emerged behind her opponent, seizing the opening to drive her Butcher's Blade deep into the center of the Ghost Bride's arched spine.

HISS!

A torrent of blood poured out, instantly sizzling as it ate into the stone ground.

The pain was evidently excruciating; the Ghost Bride clutched her backside in mid-air, wailing as her balance failed. She slammed heavily onto the ground.

BOOM!!

The earth shook violently.

RAAAAGH!!

The heavy impact made her howl and weep at the sky once more.

"Opportunity."

Seraphine, who had been circling rapidly for an opening, sprinted forward, aiming for a decapitating strike.

According to the strategy guide, as Old Master Chu nears death, his imprisoned deceased wife will burst from his body and take over.

This marks the start of phase two.

In this phase, the Ghost Bride converts all the radiation fields from Old Master Chu's body into massive vitality. She sacrifices defense for an unparalleled health pool.

Her fatal weakness is that small, life-sized woman's face located in the center of the hundred eyes on her veil. Striking anywhere else only causes pain; only by shattering that small face can you deplete 99% of her health.

SWOOSH!

Seraphine lunged.

But as she closed in, the Ghost Bride instinctively lashed out, shielding her face with one hand while the other struck Seraphine, blasting her over a hundred meters away.

SWOOSH!

Tracing an arc through the air, she slammed into the ground.

CRASH!!

"Greed is a killer. Stay steady. Play it safe," Seraphine muttered, leaping from the pile of rubble and tiles as her flames flared, making her vanish from the spot.

A second later, a massive ghostly claw slammed down where she had stood.

BANG!!

The earth shattered.

ROAR!!

The recovered Ghost Bride screamed, her hundred eyes frantically firing emerald light beams in every direction, desperate to hit the blurring Seraphine.

But Seraphine was as nimble as a squirrel. Amidst the continuous, furious roars, she relentlessly hacked at the entity's lower body from every angle. In moments, the Ghost Bride's waist, buttocks, thighs, calves, and the tops of her feet were covered in deep, jagged gashes.

SPLASH! HISS!

Foul, emerald blood gushed from her wounds, quickly drenching and corroding the ground within a radius of hundreds of meters.

AAARGH!!

Finally, with a shrill, agonizing shriek, the Ghost Bride's right ankle was nearly severed by Seraphine. Her massive body collapsed uncontrollably.

"Opportunity again."

With a chuckle, Seraphine shot into the air. Reversing her grip on the blade, she dove like a hawk toward the center of the Ghost Bride's bridal veil, aiming to bury her Butcher's Blade into that deathly pale face.

In that instant, the Ghost Bride's massive frame erupted with countless black-and-green, razor-sharp tentacles, bursting outward like the quills of a sea urchin, blanketing a radius of hundreds of meters.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

"Death throes."

In mid-air, Seraphine spun her body like a rotor.

SHRED! SHRED! SHRED!

She sliced and diced through the swarming tentacles.

She streaked toward the massive red bridal veil and drove her blade with a heavy strike into the pale face.

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

In an instant, the Ghost Bride's health bar plummeted until it bottomed out. Her massive, distorted body shuddered violently and then froze.

The Ghost Bride was dead.

CLINK!

"A 30-level gap and the EXP multiplies?" Seraphine chuckled in surprise. "Interesting."

Amidst the swirling smoke, she checked her player interface.

With the cleanup finished, Seraphine took one last look at the Chu Mansion, now reduced to ruins by the violent battle, and clicked the [ EXIT ] option in her vision. Amidst a flash of illusory light, she instantly vanished from the Horror Manor instance.

...

ROAR!

On the edge of the dark city ruins, bordering the Passionate Desert, over a dozen fierce radioactive wraiths were wandering and howling, searching desperately for any sign of life.

Find life. Kill it.

This was the sole purpose of their existence.

Just then...

SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!

Seven or eight deep blue, crescent-shaped blade-lights streaked past, instantly decapitating the snarling entities.

The radioactive wraiths were annihilated.

ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!

Next, Seraphine streaked through the area, shrouded in layers of fire and burning clouds, heading straight for the vast desert.

By now, the sun had dipped below the horizon.

Heaven and earth were entering the embrace of twilight.

Sprinting along, Seraphine was surprised to find that the desert night was breathtakingly brilliant.

Without any light pollution, the expanse above was like a colossal painting, showcasing a vibrant, multicolored spectacle.

Thousands upon thousands of glittering stars were strewn across the boundless night sky, like exquisite gems scattered across black velvet, emphasizing the infinite reaches of the cosmos.

As the desert temperature plummeted after nightfall, Seraphine could clearly see brilliant layers of illusory light forming in the atmosphere from unknown causes.

Under the starlight, these flickering lights formed flowing streaks of radiance, as magnificent and colorful as the Auroras of old Earth.

Even more wondrous was the fact that the thousands of flowing lights in the vast dark firmament all pointed toward the northeast.

Roughly three hundred kilometers in that direction lay Seraphine's destination.

Standing there was a super-massive electromagnetic railgun, nine hundred meters tall with a diameter of approximately 330 meters.

According to the strategy guide, that massive cannon represented the final glory of Azure Flame's native civilization before its collapse.

A mere nine-hundred-meter electromagnetic coil barrel, how could that be the pinnacle of a civilization?

Initially, Seraphine thought the same.

But after learning the full details, she understood.

The true length of that electromagnetic railgun... was roughly one thousand two hundred kilometers.

Its main body was buried deep within the thick crust of Azure Flame.

The nine-hundred-meter barrel protruding at an angle from the ground was merely a tiny fraction of the weapon. That fraction served as the breech for loading ammunition and as the control station.

This ridiculously massive railgun was the vital tool for the next step of Seraphine's plan.

Upon clearing her second instance, she had decided on a new target: the [Nightmare Deep-Port] instance.

Interestingly, this instance wasn't located anywhere on Azure Flame itself.

It wasn't on the surface or underground; it was located in the vastness of space, 1.2 million kilometers away from Azure Flame.

That specific coordinate was a Lagrangian point, formed by the gravitational interplay between Azure Flame and the blazing star millions of kilometers away.

Floating there was a spaceport, abandoned for untold years and infested with unknown hazardous organisms. That port was the Nightmare Deep-Port.

Under normal circumstances, getting there required an interplanetary spaceship.

But after studying the Speedrun Strategy Guide, Seraphine hit upon a fascinating idea.

She would treat herself as the projectile. She would use that super-massive railgun to blast herself from Azure Flame to the Nightmare Deep-Port, 1.2 million kilometers away.
