Cherreads

Chapter 71 - Unfolding the truth-2

Thinking about the contents of letter, Mrs.Nolan began to remember some things her husband had told her in the early years of their marriage; before they had children.

Nolan was born into a family of seers. He wasn't one but his grandfather was but he had also never met his grandfather. All he knew about the man was that he was a seer. In his household, no one ever spoke much about his grandfather, Torah Nolan.

Nolan grew up not knowing if Torah was a good man or not. His family members only made him aware that he might also end up being a seer and when he didn't, they told him his children had the possibility of being one.

Nolan knew little to nothing about this part of his life but when he married Elizabeth, he knew it was important to let his wife know about it.

Elizabeth also didn't have a vast knowledge of the seers or how far their powers could go so she never really bothered herself about it.

But now, with what the king said, she feared for what might happen next. In the letter, Nolan explained that the king suspected Mirabelle was a seer and that the seers are in two types and if Mirabelle was indeed a seer, she needed to stay in the palace for observation; if she was the good kind or the bad kind.

Mrs. Nolan knew Mirabelle was a good person at heart but for some reason, she had a strong feeling that trouble was brewing. If Mirabelle did turn out to be a dark seer, she'd be a threat to the kingdom.

Mrs Nolan was scared even more because she knew that her daughter was indeed a seer because even when Mirabelle was little, she showed some of the attributes. But the question running through her mind was what kind of seer exactly?.

She walked into her bathroom and washed a face. She hid the letter and quickly put on a fake smile before returning to the living room.

"Mother, is everything alright?" Gabrielle asked as she found her mother's reaction earlier suspicious.

"Yes my love. Everything is alright. Why don't you and Sir Thomas take a walk? Enjoy yourselves, Kayden and I would make come snacks before you return.

"Oh-okay" Gabrielle answered. She still found her mother's behavior strange but she decided not to dwell on it.

Gabrielle hadn't seen Sir Thomas in a while because he had gone to Blackthorn for work.

"Shall we?" Sir Thomas asked and Gabrielle smiled at his gentleness before nodding her head.

They both walked out of the house and down the road. Finally alone with Sir Thomas, Gabrielle remembered her last meeting with him and she blushed hard, feeling embarrassed and shy.

"What has you excited milady?" Sir Thomas turned to her with a calm expression.

"Ohh it's nothing, you do not need to worry" Gabrielle quickly answered.

"While I was away, I missed you so much love. How are you doing?" Sir Thomas slipped his hand into hers, holding it firmly.

"Honestly, I missed you just as much milord. But as for how I am faring, I'm troubled actually. Mother acted strange after seeing that letter and I am just as worried about my father and sister. I'm glad they are fine but I am still worried" Gabrielle admitted.

"Do you want to visit the palace and see them for yourself?" Sir Thomas asked, raising a brow.

"I would love to but I can't leave mother and Kayden alone" Gabrielle answered.

"I see. Don't worry, they'd both return safely. If it takes longer than expected, I'd try to ask the king for permission to visit and we'd all go see what's going on there alright?" Sir Thomas said and Gabrielle nodded gently.

As they walked hand in hand, a town crier walked past them as he announced the Debutante ball to the village of Cornswell.

Hearing the news of the Debutante ball for the first time in a long time, Sir Thomas turned to Gabrielle. "Will you please give me the honour of being your only pick and dance partner at all the ball?".

Gabrielle playfully said "Milord you need to put more effort when asking a lady something like this".

Sir Thomas smiled at her playful and cute behavior and got down on one knee. Seeing the position he was in which looked like he was proposing, Gabrielle quickly said "I was only joking Milord, you don't need to kneel".

But Sir Thomas didn't stand up though she made attempts to make him stand on his feet.

"It's okay Gabrielle. Let me" he said. Gabrielle's cheeks turned red seeing how he took her joke seriously regardless of the fact he knew she was joking earlier.

"Lady Gabrielle Nolan, would you please be my only pick and dance partner during the ball. I'd make sure you have an unforgettable night. I might actually pass out right now if you do not say yes" Sir Thomas said, making Gabrielle giggle.

"Yes milord, I'd be your dance partner that evening" she said.

"Then my life is complete" Sir Thomas said playfully before standing on his feet once again.

"You did not have to be so dramatic milord" Gabrielle poked him at his side and they both laughed.

That day, the news of the Debutante ball was completely spread throughout Denver which was formerly called Denverion and everyone interested began preparing for it as the day was close by.
