Giorno's posture, holding a mass of seawater in his hand while throwing a punch, was extremely familiar to Lobster, a Fish-Man.
Fish-Man Karate?!
That shouldn't be possible. It was a special martial art that only Fish-Men who could manipulate water could master… and even then, not all Fish-Men could learn it!
Liam threw a punch toward Whitebeard, standing on the deck, the seawater in his hand bursting into a spray of mist.
That has nothing to do with Fish-Man Karate at all! Lobster shouted inwardly. Then why are you deliberately holding seawater in your hand?!
But as Liam's punch shot out, a visible wave of energy burst from the powerful force of his fist, rushing toward Whitebeard at incredible speed.
A punch thrown through the air, and it blasted apart the entire left side of Whitebeard's head!
"POPS!!!!"
The Whitebeard Pirates were nearly scared out of their wits, but Marco shouted loudly to stop them: "Don't panic! Look carefully, Pops is in his Phoenix form now! How could he be hurt by something like this?!"
Everyone looked again.
Sure enough, from the shattered edge of his left head, no blood flowed; only blue phoenix flames flickered.
As an immortal bird, of course, he wouldn't die from such an injury.
For a Phoenix Devil Fruit user, it was almost like being a data-based entity; there was no longer such a thing as a vital point. No matter how severe the damage, it was just a reduction in "HP." Burn some "MP," and it could be restored.
Teach laughed loudly. "Zehahaha! Giorno, the Phoenix Fruit you gave Pops has only made him even more invincible!"
"But what was that just now?" Many of the crew were still shocked by Liam's punch.
"Isn't he a Devil Fruit user?"
If he wasn't an ability user, how could he fire off attacks with his bare hands?!
"Flying Shigan?" The commanders, being more experienced, began to analyze it.
"Or Rankyaku?"
"Was that a leg? That was clearly a fist!"
"You can use Rankyaku or Shigan with your fists? I seriously don't get it…"
Before they could finish, Whitebeard, with half his head still burning in blue flames, had already gripped his massive naginata and slashed fiercely toward Liam in midair.
Without the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, the Phoenix wasn't a beast known for brute strength. But relying on Whitebeard's own immense power alone, the sword energy from that slash was enough to tear the sea apart.
Yet Liam, directly in the path of that attack, moved like a willow swaying in the wind.
As the slash fell, the immense pressure merely brushed him aside gently,
The missed strike split the sea once more, carving out a vast watery chasm.
"Kami-e?" Vista stroked his mustache and smiled. "So the rumors that he's mastered Rokushiki are true!"
As if responding to him, in an instant, Liam, drifting like a willow, snapped his legs and unleashed dozens, hundreds, of crescent-shaped Rankyaku slashes, all precisely surging toward Whitebeard's massive body.
Third Division Commander Jozu watched and muttered, "This is outrageous…"
BOOM BOOM BOOM!
Countless Rankyaku strikes exploded against Whitebeard. When the smoke cleared, Whitebeard stood unmoved, his body coated in black Armament Haki.
"But if you think that's enough to defeat Pops, you're far from it!" The other commanders said with faint smiles.
With a roar, Whitebeard transformed both arms into enormous blue flaming phoenix wings, sweeping out a sky-covering wave of blue fire that swallowed Liam in midair,
The Fourth Division Commander Thatch and several crew members kept watching Giorno's female captain. Aside from showing vigilance at the start, she hadn't made any unusual moves; now she simply looked up quietly at the battle.
Just then, from within the vast wave of blue flames came sharp tap, tap sounds.
Liam burst through the flames at high speed using Geppo, stepping through the air.
Whitebeard immediately swung another slash toward the point where Liam would land,
But Liam twisted his body midair and kicked backward and upward with a tap, changing direction sharply and diving toward Whitebeard on the deck, narrowly crossing past the horizontal slash.
"Geppo can be used like that?!" The crew on deck shouted in shock.
"His Observation Haki is also very strong…" Vista stroked his mustache in admiration. "Otherwise, that last slash might've taken his leg. Heh…"
In a flash, Liam appeared right in front of Whitebeard. With both hands held in a hollow grip, he thrust them forward… Rokuōgan!
With a thunderous boom, a hollow was blasted clean through Whitebeard's chest. The ship's railing behind him shattered instantly from the impact, and even farther beyond, the sea was churned up into waves over ten meters high by the scattering shockwaves…
"Pops!!" The Whitebeard Pirates cried out in alarm. Even knowing he had the Phoenix Fruit, seeing such a wound still made them uneasy.
Even some of the commanders broke into a sweat in shock. "That's Rokushiki too? I've never seen a technique with that level of destructive power…"
Teach burst out laughing. "Hahaha! That must be the ultimate move you get from fully mastering Rokushiki, right? Zehahaha! Giorno Giovanna, you're really something!!"
By now, Whitebeard's head had already regenerated. Ignoring the hollow in his chest, still wreathed in regenerative flames, he swung his massive Murakumogiri down at Liam.
Liam raised his right hand and struck toward the blade. Armament Haki flowed through his palm,
BOOM!
The blade was blasted apart.
"Gurarara! That's Ryuo (Flowing Sakura)… brings back memories…" Whitebeard laughed as his other massive fist swung toward Liam. "Looks like Rayleigh taught you quite a lot!!"
Liam raised his iron staff to block, but was sent flying, man and weapon together, by Whitebeard's punch infused with dense Ryuo Haki.
Pfft!
Liam spat out a mouthful of blood midair, flying over everyone's heads toward the sea, but in the next instant…
Tap!
He stepped on the water's surface and rebounded, rushing back again.
"Still not giving up, huh…" Marco sighed.
Not too far away, as tremors from the battle aboard the Moby Dick rippled across the sea, the Marine battleship rocked continuously. On its deck, Vice Admiral Strawberry stood unwavering, telescope in hand, observing the battle while maintaining communication with Admiral Sengoku through a Den Den Mushi.
"Although we can't clearly see the details on the Moby Dick, the battle is extremely intense…"
"Giorno hasn't used the Impact Fruit ability he showed at Sabaody…"
"The bow of the Moby Dick has been shattered, this doesn't look like a sparring match…"
"Whitebeard's attacks don't look like he's holding back either…"
…
Marine Headquarters
Listening to the report through the Den Den Mushi, Sengoku muttered gravely:
"Giorno removed his own Devil Fruit ability beforehand using that special power of his? That means he anticipated a conflict with Whitebeard… It seems his purpose in following Marco to the Moby Dick wasn't simple. At the very least, it wasn't just to heal Whitebeard, as Marco believed…"
Garp laughed loudly. "He actually went onto Whitebeard's ship with hostile intent? That kid's got guts! Wahaha!"
"Garp, you…" Sengoku looked up, only to find that Garp had already fallen asleep on the sofa mid-conversation.
He was speechless.
Glancing outside, he saw that night had already fallen.
Accounting for the time difference, it would be even darker over in the New World…
"Giorno may have great stamina, but against Whitebeard…" Sengoku shook his head and murmured, "Will he last until dawn?"
That night, Sengoku didn't sleep at all. He kept listening to Vice Admiral Strawberry's reports through the Den Den Mushi, hearing a continuous description of the battle taking place aboard the Emperor's ship in the New World.
The fight seemed to last all the way until the faint light of dawn.
Morning sunlight began to fall across the battleship's deck. Some marines rotated off to rest, but Vice Admiral Strawberry remained standing, unmoving, staring intently at the distant Moby Dick where the fierce battle still raged.
Blue phoenix flames…
Storm-like Rokushiki assaults…
Violent shockwaves from clashing Haki…
The massive Moby Dick rocked violently across the sea because of those two fighters, several times looking as though it might overturn completely…
Multiple parts of the ship were already damaged…
Marine Headquarters
Sengoku's eyes were bloodshot from staying up all night. Nearby, Garp lay sprawled on the sofa, legs crossed, snoring loudly with a bubble coming out of his nose.
Sengoku felt a bit of regret; he had been too focused on work. He should've thrown this unreliable old man out last night.
Rubbing his dry eyes, he glanced out the window. Dawn was breaking.
At that moment, the bearded Den Den Mushi on his desk spoke in a serious tone:
"The Moby Dick has been calm for over half an hour… It seems the battle has ended…"
