An early morning in autumn is truly is the best.
The warm golden glow of sun light gently shining through the window, the sound of bird cheerfully chirping. Golden leaves falling in the winds. The sunlight wasn't harsh or demanding like summer's — warming my face without chasing away the coolness clinging to the air.
Ah, morning like these are the best. I thought as the pan sizzles below me. I'm currently making breakfast right now - egg and some toasts paired with a cool cup of coffee.
It's been a week since that day I met Alpha. Following her advice, I've been running around raiding nearby convenience stores for anything worth looting. Alpha made a priority list of supply that she insisted I gather as soon as possible. The priority is as follows: Food , Medicine, Tools/ Machinery, Fuel, and finally Weapons. If you are wondering why weapons are so low on the list, it's because Grandpa already stocked a bunch of guns in the bunker. The are so many guns lined on the wall that I don't even know which one to pick. Anyway back on subject, after raiding the nearby konbinis - there were around 4 of them - I managed to find a sizable amount of loot especially food. I got so many food that even my fridge couldn't hold it all. Eventually, I had to resort to stealing my neighbor's fridge and moving it over my place. So sorry, Karuizawa - san but I got no choice, please forgive me!
Anyways, even though I already got more food than I know what to do with, Alpha still insist on getting even more. Her reason for it was " You never know what might happen", though I have a feeling she's just one of those hoarders that likes to leave nothing else for other people.
Setting down the finished breakfast on the table, I turn on the TV the watch the news. Thankfully the TV still managed to work somehow - which is good because this way I can still catch up with what's happening outside of Japan.
Apparently, Japan isn't the only nation that's affected by this mysterious disease. Other countries like China, Korea, even European countries are affected too. That night, the outbreak didn't just started in Japan, it simultaneously appeared in other countries too, at the same time. According to the news, UN and WHO suspects the outbreak traced it's origin back to Asia because countries in this region got hit the hardest while others in Europe managed to do fine. It's not about government competency but about the sheer amount of infected, and how they all managed to go feral on the same day, almost like a hive mind... The only country that didn't have any infected is surprisingly - the US, which leave room for a lot of suspicions like how on the day of the outbreak all of the world leaders just managed to find refuge as guests at the White House, it's almost as if they knew.
On the screen are the Prime Ministers of the affected countries taking their turns giving speeches on the podium. Most of them are the same, we're so thankful for the US blah blah.. we going to negotiate for aid soon... blah blah... The US President is so nice... blah blah. Among them is also the PM for Japan - Shigeru Kanzaki - the fat bastard is already sweating profusely. I could only imagine the smell with all those layers of clothing on him. His speech is the same as the other PMs " I'm grateful for the hospitality of the US, I promise to help Japanese citizens so please hold on to hope" and he ends his speech with a classic Japanese bow. Real nice of him, except everyone in this country has already seen through his nice guy act. He's a coward who abandoned his country to save his own hide and know he has the gall to act like this tragic hero who's forced to leave his country. The bastard also knew about the outbreak too and didn't say a single thing. Come to think of it, it was weird how the military reacted so quick to outbreak, almost as if they were expecting it. Just a quick before the outbreak, most of the JSF was called to Tokyo for a military parade, during that time there was also an increase in military presence in major cities across Japan. I remembered seeing military checkpoints and armored car rolling down the streets when I was out shopping with Father. The people were nervous, obviously, there were even rumors that they were preparing for something big, well now we know what it is. At first, I didn't think much of it, now it makes sense.
Once the PM finished giving their speech, it was the US President turn. Coming up on the podium was an old man with white hair in suits much like other politician. He looks like your typical clueless old man but there's this sharp glint in his eye, like a cunning fox hiding it's claws. His speech was rather simple, declaring that the US will be sending military and aid to many afflicted countries, starting with Europe. With his speech done, the ceremony also concluded.
