As Ray's eyes locked onto the tiny figure sitting behind him, his heart skipped a beat. The little girl's sky blue hair cascaded down her back like a river of night sky, and her exquisite face seemed chiseled from the finest porcelain. Her baby clothes and chubby cheeks only added to her irresistible charm, making Ray's heart melt like wax in a furnace.
Ellen's eyes, still heavy with sleep, fluttered open as Ray called out her name. Her gaze locked onto his, and a bright smile illuminated her face like a sunrise over a cloudless horizon. "Big brother!" she exclaimed in a voice that was both sweet and shrill, her small fists rubbing the remnants of sleep from her eyes.
Ray's arms seemed to move of their own accord, scooping up the tiny bundle of energy and affection. He cradled her close, his lips brushing against her forehead in a gentle kiss. Ellen's giggles were like music, her small arms wrapping tightly around his neck as she hugged him back with all the might of her tiny body.
As they exited the library, the warm glow of the setting sun cast a golden light upon their faces. Ray's mother, her features etched with concern, greeted them in the hallway. "Where was Ellen?" she asked, her voice soft and gentle.
Ellen's eyes sparkled with mischief as she looked up at Ray, then back at her mother. "I was waiting for big brother to finish reading, but I fell asleep first ." she admitted in a voice that was both innocent and contrite.
Their mother's face relaxed into a warm smile. "It's still some time until dinner, Ellen. Why don't you go take a nap first?" she suggested, her eyes never leaving Ray's face.
Ellen nodded, her gaze locked onto Ray's. "Big brother, can you put me to sleep?" she asked in a voice that was both sweet and imploring.
Ray's heart swelled with emotion as he nodded, carrying Ellen to her bedchamber. The room was a princess's dream come true, with a bed that seemed fit for royalty and a canopy that shimmered like the stars in a midnight sky. Ray tucked Ellen under the sheets, his fingers brushing against her soft hair as he whispered gentle words in her ear.
As her eyelids drooped, Ray's heart overflowed with love and gratitude. He had never felt such a deep connection with anyone before, and the realization that this tiny being was his sister left him breathless. "You're too cute, Ellen," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the pounding of his heart.
With a final smile, Ellen's eyes drifted shut, her chest rising and falling in a gentle rhythm. Ray watched over her, his heart filled with a sense of purpose he had never known before. He would become strong, not just for himself, but for this tiny being who had captured his heart with her infectious laughter and her unconditional love.
As he left Ellen's room, the setting sun casting a golden glow over the landscape, Ray knew that his journey was far from over. He would face challenges and obstacles, but with Ellen by his side, he felt invincible. The practice area in the backyard beckoned, and Ray's heart raced with anticipation as he went to test his theories and resolve his doubts about magic.
Ray soon found it and went towards it.....
