Jay's expression immediately softened.
"Oh."
He looked at the others.
"He's cute."
Bella couldn't help smiling at the tiny boy. His hesitant wave and soft voice had already begun to melt her heart.
But her eyes soon returned to Leo.
There was still one enormous question sitting between them.
Who was Eli?
And why had Leo brought him here?
Leo seemed to understand exactly what everyone was thinking.
He gently placed a hand on Eli's shoulder, making sure the little boy knew he was safe and looked around at his family. His gaze moved from one face to another, giving each person a moment to absorb what he was about to say.
"I didn't bring him here to shock you."
His voice was calm.
"I brought him because I want all of you to meet him."
Bella's heart began beating faster.
Leo glanced briefly at her.
There was something unusually gentle in his eyes. A softness that he rarely showed in front of others.
But he still didn't explain.
