Bella's heart melted. It pooled warm and liquid in her chest, and she had to blink back the sudden sting in her eyes.
She reached over and gently stroked his hair, her fingers combing through the soft strands.
"She's still very tiny, sweetheart."
Eli looked down at her stomach again. His little hand hovered just above it, not quite touching like he was afraid he might hurt something.
"She has to stay inside?"
"For a while."
He sighed softly, his little shoulders drooping. The sound was so heavy, so dramatic, that it was almost comical coming from such a small person.
Leo kissed his cheek, his lips pressing warm against the soft skin.
"Do you want a little sister more than a little brother?"
Eli's eyes immediately brightened again. The sadness vanished as quickly as it had come.
"Yes!"
He nodded enthusiastically, his whole body bouncing with the motion.
"I want sister!"
Leo chuckled, the sound rumbling through his chest.
"Why?"
