Bella covered her face, embarrassed. Her cheeks were burning now and she could feel the heat spreading all the way to her ears.
"I said I'm sorry."
"I know."
Leo leaned forward and kissed her forehead again. His lips lingered there, warm and firm.
"So we're done with that thought."
Bella nodded against his lips.
"Okay."
"Good girl!"
Bella peeked at him from between her fingers. Her eyes were still shiny but the sadness was gone now, replaced by something softer.
Leo pulled back and looked at her.
Then his expression shifted.
"Wait."
Bella blinked.
"What?"
Leo's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Did you really think I didn't want you?"
Bella's face went red again.
"I already said sorry."
"I know." He tilted his head, studying her.
"But I'm trying to understand how you came to that conclusion."
Bella looked away.
"It was stupid."
"I know."
She shot him a look.
Leo raised an eyebrow.
"You're not helping."
"I'm not trying to help. I'm trying to understand."
