Chapter 752: Victory Without Arrogance

Sometimes, a spectacular goal, a clean tackle, or a solid defensive play can ignite the morale and passion of a team. For a team like Manchester United, known for its intensity, this effect is even more pronounced.

Bruno's sensational goal, where he overcame three Liverpool defenders to score, significantly boosted United's spirits. After their wild celebrations, the players became even more proactive, launching a series of counterattacks against Liverpool.

First, Bruno forced his way through the middle and seized an opportunity to unleash a sudden and powerful long-range shot from outside the penalty area.

The strike was fast, sharp, and unexpected, leaving Liverpool fans holding their breath in fear.

Alisson reacted swiftly, diving to parry the shot and barely averting disaster.

Shortly after, Manchester United earned a corner kick. Harry Maguire's header from 10 meters out narrowly missed the target, flying just over the crossbar.

United's relentless pressure continued. Harry Kane created space for Bruno by dragging defenders away, while İlkay Gündoğan delivered a precise lofted pass from the right center of the pitch. Bruno made a diagonal run toward the right side of the penalty spot, striking the ball with his right foot before Liverpool's defenders could intervene.

Once again, Alisson pulled off a brilliant save, diving to block Bruno's seemingly unstoppable shot and saving Liverpool's goal.

Corner kick!

...

Bruno got up from the turf inside the penalty area, breathing heavily as he brushed off the grass sticking to his kit.

By now, United's taller players had gathered in the box—Maguire, Virgil van Dijk, Luke Shaw, Harry Kane, and Marcus Rashford.

Gündoğan positioned himself at the edge of the penalty area, ready to storm in and attempt a decisive strike if the opportunity arose. João Cancelo went to the corner flag, carefully placing the ball and pressing down on the turf behind it before stepping back to prepare his delivery.

Standing alongside Gündoğan just outside the penalty area, Bruno felt a surge of energy coursing through him. He was brimming with confidence and hungry for another goal.

With referee Martin Atkinson's whistle, all the players in and around the penalty area sprang into motion.

Gündoğan broke free from his marker, rushing toward the near post.

United's tall players, including Harry Kane and Maguire, put pressure on the middle and near-post areas. Van Dijk and others made swift movements, disrupting Liverpool's defensive organization.

Chaos ensued in and around the penalty area.

Cancelo delivered the corner kick—not to the near post or the center as expected, but toward the far post.

"Danger!" Henderson shouted, quickly realizing the threat.

However, as the Liverpool captain turned, he noticed Bruno—who had been right behind him—was gone. A sinking feeling hit him. In set-piece situations like this, losing track of a player often spells disaster.

...

Inside Liverpool's penalty area, pandemonium reigned. Henderson couldn't locate Bruno amid the chaos.

Only Bruno knew exactly where he was. He had deliberately backed away, positioning himself near the edge of the penalty area on the left before suddenly surging into the box.

Andrew Robertson was stationed at the far post. When he saw the ball flying toward his position, his instinct was to clear it. However, before he could act, a red blur appeared—Bruno.

Charging forward with a short sprint, Bruno leapt high into the air, beating Robertson to the ball. At 1.83 meters tall, Bruno already had a 5-centimeter height advantage over Robertson, who stood at 1.78 meters. With a running start and momentum behind him, Bruno soared higher than Robertson could manage, leaving the Liverpool defender frozen, gazing up at Bruno like he was watching a god descend.

So high!

He jumped so high!

Bruno, having judged the ball's trajectory perfectly, combined his leap with his superior positioning. After a long run-up, he reached his maximum height and arched his body into a C-shape.

At the apex of his jump, Bruno was in complete control. As the ball neared, he engaged his core muscles to adjust his posture, extending his legs and head forward. Channeling all his strength through his core and neck, he smashed the ball with his forehead.

...

Heading the ball might seem painful, but it wasn't—not when the ball was descending.

Bruno's header was less of a strike and more of a forceful hammer blow, sending the ball crashing into Liverpool's net.

Alisson, standing just meters away, could barely react to the point-blank header. Instinctively, he stretched out his right hand, but the ball clipped the left post and ricocheted into the goal.

GOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

"A header! Bruno capitalizes on a corner kick, delivering a close-range header to put Manchester United ahead!"

As Bruno landed, he clenched both fists, raised them high above his head, and let out a triumphant roar, releasing the exhilaration inside him.

The sensation was intoxicating—pure, unadulterated joy.

At the moment he leapt high into the air, Bruno truly felt a sense of dominance, as though he was gazing down on everyone else from above.

When he noticed the stunned expression on Robertson's face and the gaping disbelief from the surrounding Liverpool players, he felt an overwhelming urge to cheer wildly.

But before he could even let out a shout, he was swarmed by his Manchester United teammates.

"That was incredible!"

"Wow! That header was so cool, so amazing!"

"I can't believe you jumped that high!"

...

"That was certainly an unexpected goal. Not only for Liverpool's players but even for Manchester United's."

"It's not that Bruno has never scored a header before, but the ones he's scored in the past were far less stunning than this one. Robertson looked completely mesmerized, as if he were watching a god descend from the heavens."

"This header from Bruno feels like a direct response to Salah's earlier header. The rivalry between these two young stars looks set to become one of the Premier League's biggest talking points going forward."

Salah, too, was astonished. He hadn't expected Bruno to respond in such a fashion.

Earlier in the match, Salah had scored a spectacular header, but less than 40 minutes later, Bruno scored one of his own—arguably even more brilliant. How could the Egyptian not draw comparisons?

...

Referee Martin Atkinson finally blew the whistle, signaling the end of the match. One by one, Manchester United's players collapsed onto the grass of Old Trafford, exhausted.

The 70,000-plus Manchester United fans in the stadium were singing and dancing, completely lost in their joy.

The massive red scoreboard displayed the final result: 2-1. With Bruno's brace, Manchester United had completed a comeback victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford. The fans were ecstatic, chanting Bruno's name in unison.

The second half had been dominated by Liverpool, who launched a relentless assault on United's defense. Mourinho's defensive structure, honed over three years, was tested to its limits and nearly crumbled multiple times. Yet, Manchester United held firm, securing the result and overturning Liverpool's lead.

Liverpool's 17-match winning streak came to an abrupt end, stopped by Manchester United.

After bowing to thank the fans, Bruno turned and slowly walked toward the players' tunnel.

The intensity of the Premier League was overwhelming—the pressure, the pace, the physical demands. By the final stages of the match, Bruno was utterly spent, relying on sheer willpower to keep going.

He was certain he wasn't the only one; the entire team felt the same way.

Liverpool's attacks had been relentless and dangerous, putting immense pressure on United's defense. But United had gritted their teeth and held out, showcasing remarkable resilience.

In this, the trio of Bruno, Gündoğan, and Kanté in midfield had been indispensable. They formed an impenetrable shield in front of the defense, protecting the penalty area with unyielding determination.

While Liverpool controlled the game and held the advantage for most of the match, United's sharp counterattacks had made life miserable for them. Bruno's counterattacking goal in the first half, followed by United's subsequent surge, had been the game's turning point.

That brief period was United's brightest spell, yielding both goals and securing their comeback victory over Liverpool.

...

"What's wrong?" Kanté asked, walking over from behind and noticing Bruno looking somewhat dejected.

"Nothing," Bruno replied, shaking his head.

"You don't seem entirely satisfied with the match," Kanté observed.

Bruno nodded. "I had a chance to score a hat trick in the second half, but I missed two opportunities. If I had just converted one of them, how great would that have been?"

He sighed heavily, clearly frustrated. This made Kanté both amused and exasperated, though he couldn't help but admire Bruno at the same time.

The amusement came from the fact that neither of the missed chances was particularly easy—both were 50-50 opportunities at best. Missing them was entirely reasonable and not something to dwell on.

The frustration stemmed from Bruno's exceptionally high standards for himself—so high that even a close friend like Kanté felt a tinge of inadequacy by comparison.

Two goals, orchestrating United's dramatic comeback against Liverpool, and yet he was still unsatisfied? Still lamenting the missed chance for a hat trick? How could anyone else measure up to that?

But there was admiration, too. Kanté respected Bruno's lofty ambitions and his relentless self-criticism.

For any other player, such a performance would be cause for celebration. But Bruno, instead of basking in his success, was reflecting on what he could have done better. It was a testament to his mindset.

Perhaps that was why Bruno had grown to become one of the greatest players in the world.
