Yamato let out a strained, bitter smile. It was one that carried years of frustration and resignation.
"Do you think I don't want to be free?" She muttered, her voice trembling with suppressed anger. "I've tried everything I could. I've pulled, smashed, and twisted, but nothing works. These chains were made by my old man. And my old isn't the type to leave even a sliver of hope."
Her words were soaked in despair, but beneath that despair burned a fierce resentment that refused to die.
Luffy watched her quietly, taking in not just the words but the weight behind them. After a moment, he tilted his head slightly, his expression shifting into something unexpectedly gentle.
"In that case," He said, his voice calm and unwavering, "I can help you."
The world seemed to stop.
Yamato stared at him as though the ground had slipped from beneath her feet. "…What did you say?"
She had never heard those words before spoken with such sincerity, warmth, and absolute confidence.
Luffy radiated his effortless confidence with every breath he took. Her heartbeat stuttered, pounding in her ears as Luffy stepped toward her without hesitation.
He closed the distance between them, his presence filling the space like a storm rolling across the shore.
Before she could gather her thoughts, he placed his hand on the thick seastone chains that bound her wrists.
"W–Wait—don't touch those!" Yamato blurted out, panic flaring in her chest. "They'll weaken you! They're—"
Clang!
A violent crack split the air, and her words died in her throat.
She looked down slowly, almost afraid to believe what she was seeing. The cursed, suffocating shackles she had worn for years were fracturing. Bright fissures spread across the metal like lightning crawling over dark clouds.
And then, they shattered.
Fragments of seastone scattered across the floor, clinking against the stone like falling ice.
Yamato couldn't breathe. The cuffs that had defined her captivity for so long had broken as easily as dry twigs in Luffy's grasp.
Luffy tightened his grip on the broken remains and flicked them casually to the side.
The fragments collided with a nearby pillar, and an enormous explosion tore through the hall.
BOOOM!!
The stone erupted in every direction, dust billowed outward, and half the pillar disappeared in a roar of destruction. The entire hall trembled with the force of it, leaving Yamato staring blankly at the devastation.
For several heartbeats, she couldn't even form words. Then, slowly, disbelief twisted into a furious snarl.
"That… that bastard," She growled, her fists trembling violently. "He actually put explosive seastone cuffs on me. He really planned to kill me if I ever resisted him. What kind of father does something like that…?!"
Luffy brushed off the dust on his hands and stepped toward her again. His expression had softened with understanding, as if he saw through the walls she had built around herself.
"It doesn't matter anymore," He said quietly. "Those chains won't hold you again. Not while I'm here."
Yamato's breath hitched.
For the first time since her childhood, the crushing weight around her heart seemed to lift. She raised her newly freed wrists, staring at them as if they belonged to someone else.
A trembling breath escaped her lips. It was a sound dangerously close to a sob.
For the first time in her life, the chains that defined her imprisonment lay broken at her feet.
And standing before her was the man who had shattered them without hesitation.
Yamato stood frozen for a long moment, her newly freed wrists still trembling slightly. Slowly, almost hesitantly, she lifted her gaze toward Luffy.
"…How… how did you do that?" She asked, each word dragging out as though she were still trying to convince herself this wasn't some dream.
Luffy blinked at her with a casualness so disarming it nearly made her stumble. He simply shrugged his shoulders, as though breaking seastone cuffs and detonating pillars were part of his morning routine.
"It was pretty simple, actually," He said calmly. "You're just a little inexperienced with your Haki. If you knew how to use it properly, you could've shattered those chains on your own."
The hall fell silent.
Yamato just stared at him, lips parted slightly, eyes wide with disbelief.
Simple? Haki?
Did he just call the hellish cuffs she'd suffered under for years 'simple'?
Her mind scrambled to form a coherent thought, but nothing came out. She remained rooted to the spot, caught between wanting to throttle him for his nonchalance and wanting to ask him to teach her everything he knew.
Luffy only laughed when he saw her expression, an easy, warm sound that echoed faintly through the ruined hall. He lifted his hands to his shirt, gripping the hem before pulling it over his head.
The fabric slid upward slowly.
Yamato's breath hitched.
In one smooth motion, he tossed the shirt aside, letting it fall carelessly over the rubble. His torso was exposed, solid muscles flexing subtly beneath his sun-kissed skin, each line carved with the kind of effortless strength only a monster could possess.
Yamato's eyes were helpless. They ran over every inch of him, her throat tightening as heat rushed to her face and her pulse spiked.
Her mind explained nothing, and her body reacted on its own, her fingers twitching, her breath growing shallow.
She had neither seen nor felt anything like this.
Luffy tilted his head, a knowing grin curving across his lips as he clearly caught her reaction.
"So," He drawled playfully, "since you're free now… shall we continue our game?"
The teasing lilt in his voice made her stomach flip.
Yamato instinctively took a step back, her thoughts tangling into a panicked, flustered mess. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out except a small, strangled sound.
Her gaze kept slipping back down his body, no matter how hard she tried to stop it. Her cheeks were burning so intensely she thought steam might shoot out of her horns.
Luffy was amused and chuckled again, softer this time and less taunting.
"Hmm… looks like someone isn't quite interested in fighting anymore," He murmured.
"How about we sit down and talk instead? Unless," His eyes sparkled mischievously, "you're scared to get too close."
Yamato felt her composure snap like a brittle twig. She quickly shook her head, too quickly, her hair whipping behind her.
"N–No! I mean... yes! I mean—" She stopped, groaned quietly, then forced herself to straighten. "I… I'll sit. Talking is fine."
Luffy smiled at her, warm and inviting, as though this moment belonged solely to the two of them.
And Yamato, still flushed and still trying to understand the storm inside her, found herself unable to look away.
