Xu Nianhua deliberately chose the time and called Pei Yining. When she learned Pei Yicheng hadn't returned yet, she said, "Yining, when your brother gets back, tell him I've arrived home safely. But I can't make phone calls these days while I'm at home."
"There's no phone in your village?" Pei Yining asked.
"No." Xu Nianhua sighed, "You have no idea, our village only recently got electricity. And we were among the earlier ones—there are still many villages without power. I reckon, after a few more years, we'll be able to install phones."
She spoke uncertainly, missing those future smartphones so much—being able to find someone anytime, anywhere!
