Chapter 318: Abyss Herald

The moment Bai Luo passed through his body, the Abyss Herald realized the danger.

Whoosh—

Raging torrents of water burst outward in all directions. Bai Luo, who had barely managed to pierce the Herald's armor, was forced back several meters by the impact of the water.

However, an explosive ability like this was clearly a burden even for the Abyss Herald.

After releasing it, the once-composed Herald showed clear signs of weakness.

Which made sense, instantly expelling such a massive volume of water without being completely drained was already something of a miracle.

With a light flick of his arm, the daggers in Bai Luo's hands vanished.

In their place was a right arm completely wrapped in bandages.

The Void Tyrant's exclusive weapon, combined with the Myriad Manifestation Umbrella, had allowed him to develop a new application—

Using Void-type abilities while in a different class class.

Simply put, even while in his Hei class, he could now use the Void Tyrant's skills.

"Echo of Annihilation!"

Condensing a Hydro blade in one hand, the Abyss Herald slashed diagonally toward Bai Luo. A crescent-shaped wave tore through the ground, plowing a deep furrow as it flew at him.

After fighting Raiden Ei, an attack of this level looked utterly unimpressive to Bai Luo.

That country bumpkin could release slashes with pinpoint precision, powerful enough to cut, yet delicate enough not to damage a tatami mat.

With the effects of One-Winged Angel and Dancer's Boots, Bai Luo leapt high into the air, dodging the slash wave. While airborne, he activated a hovering skill.

Thump!

Pale blue ripples appeared beneath his feet. Using the midair foothold, Bai Luo launched a flying kick straight at the Abyss Herald.

The Herald never expected Bai Luo to possess a technique that allowed him to step through the air itself.

He had already been preparing to unleash a cross-shaped slash wave at the airborne Bai Luo, only to be kicked squarely in the chest instead.

Boom—

A shower of sparks erupted. Without the Raiden Shogun's buffering shockwave, this kick delivered a full one hundred percent of its power.

Even the Abyss Herald's armor caved in deeply.

"Roar of the Abyssal Tide!"

Enduring the pain in his chest, the Abyss Herald once again mobilized Hydro energy and spun as he slashed at Bai Luo in front of him.

At this distance, taking that hit would be extremely unpleasant.

Yet Bai Luo didn't move at all, he simply let the strike come.

And once again, the Abyss Herald passed straight through Bai Luo's body.

"Damn it…"

At this point, the Abyss Herald finally understood why Their Highness had said to treat this man as one would the Seven Archons.

This shameless ability… was simply torture to deal with.

Under normal circumstances, he could have just opened a portal and retreated.

After all, fighting a battle that was guaranteed to be lost held no meaning.

But…

Glancing toward the cliff not far away, the Abyss Herald gritted his teeth as the Hydro blade reappeared in his hand.

At the very least… he had to hold out until Their Highness's plan was complete!

"You should be opening your shield about now, you know? If you don't, it'll be too late."

System prompts kept popping up nonstop, but Bai Luo ignored them entirely, his gaze fixed on the Abyss Herald across from him.

In truth, with his strength, it would have been easy to end this fight instantly.

But the Abyss Herald's Hydro blade earlier had made one thing very clear to him—

Reality was not the same as the game.

At the very least, monsters in the game wouldn't pull off a move like this.

He wanted to use this Abyss Herald to better understand whether the Abyss in this world differed even more from the one in the game.

"Resistance... is futile!!"

Even denser Hydro energy spread outward. When Bai Luo swung his arm, he could even feel a sense of drag, as if he were no longer standing on land, but submerged deep underwater.

If he remembered correctly, Abyss Heralds possessed an ability that increased an opponent's skill cooldowns. Could it be that, in the real world, this ability had transformed into a trait that affected the enemy's movements instead?

That was certainly possible.

After activating his shield, the Abyss Herald's attacks became noticeably swifter than before.

In truth, the Abyss Herald was quite aggrieved.

His role was actually similar to Bai Luo's, both were burst-type assassins.

But Bai Luo's quantization countered him completely, causing all of his burst damage to miss.

Even his few ranged abilities were utterly ineffective against Bai Luo.

This kind of close-quarters entanglement now carried a sense of desperate, smash-and-grab recklessness.

Yet ironically, it was precisely this reckless approach that broke Bai Luo's quantization, which had a five-second cooldown.

Unfortunately, unlike the Raiden Shogun, the Abyss Herald failed to notice this.

That was the gap between mortals and gods.

After more or less figuring out the Abyss Herald's capabilities, Bai Luo flicked his right hand, and the crystallized arm once again transformed into a dagger.

Slash—

Dodging the opponent's Hydro blade, Bai Luo wielded both daggers and continuously poured attacks onto the shielded Abyss Herald.

"Useless! Your attacks cannot harm the Abyss's protection!"

Seeing that Bai Luo's daggers couldn't pierce the Hydro elemental shield attached to his body, the Abyss Herald finally relaxed.

But Bai Luo seemed not to have heard him at all, the daggers in his hands continued to flash up and down.

Finally, a streak of lightning flashed. The Abyss Herald, who had just been about to launch another attack, was suddenly frozen in place by a numbing sensation.

On the 28th strike, Bai Luo triggered a critical hit.

Seizing the moment while the opponent was paralyzed, Bai Luo decisively switched to the Battousai class.

"Kuzuryūsen!"

With a single Kuzuryūsen (Nine-Head Dragon Flash) slash, the Abyss Herald realized in horror that the seemingly unsharpened katana ignored both his shield and armor, striking him directly.

Already grievously wounded, he was completely unable to withstand the power of that strike.

Even with the shield still active, his fate was no better than that of the Abyss Mage, in fact, it was even worse.

"Y-Your… Highness…"

As the surrounding moisture gradually dissipated, the Abyss Herald collapsed to his knees, his breath growing weaker and weaker.

Sheathing his blade, Bai Luo stepped toward him, intending to deliver the final, fatal blow.

But just as he took a single step forward, a one-handed sword wrapped in Abyssal energy flew straight toward him.

And the power contained within it… was no less than a strike from a god.

Clang—

The Reverse-Blade Sword left its scabbard. Bai Luo used Sōryūsen (Twin Dragon Flash), barely managing to knock the one-handed sword away.

The sword spun through the air before flying back, ultimately caught by a black-robed figure.

This person was completely shrouded in Abyssal power, their appearance impossible to discern.

After catching the sword Bai Luo had deflected, the figure immediately began healing the dying Abyss Herald.

Bai Luo's grip on the Reverse-Blade Sword tightened.

He knew that this person cloaked in Abyssal aura was one of the targets he had come here to find.
