Chapter 363: The End of the Wolf

It had to be said that Bai Luo's Sealer passive ability was truly powerful.

Whether it was the probing of gods or the keen senses of beasts, it could deceive them all.

But precisely because of how strong this passive ability was, it also brought him certain troubles.

For example, back in Inazuma—if the Sealer's passive hadn't made that "village girl" suspicious, he wouldn't have been struck so miserably by her lightning.

Today's situation was the same.

Sealer's effect indeed provided him with strong protection, but that protection was like a piece of black canvas on a snowy field. Even though it completely concealed him, a patch of black on a white snowfield would still stand out.

"Grr—"

A very ordinary greatsword appeared in the wolf child's hands as he looked at Bai Luo with wary eyes.

Wolvendom was the territory of wolves.

The Lord of the North Wind, Andrius, had always had a tradition of taking in wanderers and adopting abandoned infants.

And this wolf boy was precisely such an abandoned child raised in Wolvendom—Razor.

"The wolves… don't like you."

Rejection filled the boy's crimson eyes.

Faint arcs of lightning flickered around him. If Jianna hadn't been standing beside Bai Luo, he likely would have already rushed forward with his "claws."

"That's not a reason for you to snatch someone away, boy."

Returning the glasses in his hand to Jianna, Bai Luo didn't keep his gaze on Razor for long. Instead, he looked toward the trial ground behind him.

Because buried there was a wolf.

A wolf named Andrius.

Three thousand six hundred years ago, the Dominator of Wolves, Andrius, once stood in opposition to the Lord of the Tower.

All gods carried the responsibility of loving humanity, yet Andrius was an exception among them. He only guided the wolves, adopted abandoned children, and accepted wanderers.

Because he believed humans would only bring disappointment, while innocent infants were blameless.

He had once challenged that brutal Lord of the Tower, but he never managed to breach the Gale Tower.

When the tower finally collapsed, he had a chance to become the new Anemo Archon.

But the King of the North believed he could never truly love humans. Furthermore, the form of a wolf made it impossible for him to lead humanity toward a happy future, so he chose to give up and vanished from people's sight.

He later became connected with Mondstadt again because of a knight.

During his wandering, he met a knight who was also traveling the world, and the two formed a deep friendship.

At the end of their journey, they returned to the new Mondstadt that had overthrown its aristocratic rule.

Because the Great Wolf King of the North did not wish to live under the rule of the new god Barbatos, nor did he want his free spirit restrained, he bid farewell to the knight and returned to the wilderness, settling in Wolvendom.

At the end of his life, he allowed his power to flow into the land, calming the harsh northern winds and dispersing the endless snow, eternally protecting the land and those who lived upon it.

After the wolf died, the knight erected a gravestone for his traveling companion with a greatsword and buried his friend.

This was the story of the Knight of Boreas and his wolf.

The Dragon of the East — Lord of the Skies: Dvalin

The Lion of the South — Lionfang Knight: Vennessa

The Eagle of the West — Knights of Favonius

The Wolf of the North — Great Wolf King of the North: Boreas

These were Mondstadt's original Four Winds.

Some people might say here: Isn't the Guardian of the North the Knight of the North Wind?

Then who is Boreas?

Boreas (from boreal) actually means "north wind."

A thousand years later, the people of the new Mondstadt had long forgotten the legend of Andrius. They only knew that a wolf wielding the power of the north wind had appeared in the wilderness, so they gave him the name Boreas.

As for why the Guardian of the North is the Great Wolf King of the North Wolves, the official lore has stated this more than once.

In Venti's PV "The Four Winds," Barbatos personally says:

"The Guardian of the North Wind returned from wandering and settled in the Wolvendom."

When introducing the North Wind, the video even gives Andrius a large close-up shot.

In the main storyline, Dainsleif also explicitly says:

"Once a god of old, it now serves the Seven of the present day."

Of course, some people might still ask: Isn't the Knight of Boreas also someone who returned from wandering?

If you have Wolf's Gravestone in your inventory, you can take a look at its story.

In the end, the Knight of Boreas used his sword as a grave marker and buried the wolf in the wilds far from the city.

From then on, the Knight of Boreas abandoned the fortress, carrying the wolf's freedom in his heart, and wandered again with the wind.

Meanwhile, the wolf's undying spirit remained here forever, watching over the green land that the knight had once protected.

In other words, after the wolf died, the Knight of Boreas went off wandering again, while the wolf stayed behind to guard Mondstadt.

"..."

When the system's voice appeared, it startled Bai Luo.

Because when it first spoke, it came with bursts of static, like a signal being interfered with.

What the hell? Did fixing a bug somehow give itself a bug too?

So useless.

Although Bai Luo complained about the system that often pretended to be dead, his body still moved on its own toward the trial ground.

"Do not… come closer!"

The greatsword—which didn't even appear to have been sharpened—was stabbed into the ground by Razor.

His eyes were filled with warning.

In his view, someone this dangerous absolutely must not approach that place.

Bai Luo paid little attention to the young wolf's threat.

With the power he currently possessed, unless Andrius himself took action, even if it were merely the wolf's lingering spirit, he was confident he could handle it.

After all, he now had the strength to fight a true god.

The young wolf raised the greatsword he treated as his "claw." Though the blade wasn't sharpened, if it struck a person, it wouldn't be just a flesh wound.

Even bones might not survive.

The heavy blade sliced through the air with a rushing sound as it came down toward Bai Luo.

But when the greatsword struck him, it felt as though it had cut through empty air.

Caught off guard, Razor nearly lost his balance from his own momentum.

"Awoo—!"

Seeing Razor fail, the wolf pack—already ready to attack—howled and charged at Bai Luo under the alpha wolf's command.

The dark figure drew his dagger and walked calmly toward the place of Andrius's trial, as if strolling through a garden.

The wolves' attacks either passed strangely through Bai Luo's body, just like Razor's had, or were deflected by the dancing dagger in his hand, leaving them howling as they fell to the ground with blood trailing behind them.

They couldn't even touch him.

"I'll kill you!"

Seeing the wounded wolves, Razor's Vision flashed with lightning.

The phantom of a thunder wolf appeared behind him.

Lowering his body like a beast, he pounced toward Bai Luo.

Shhhk—

The sound of steel wires echoed.

By the time Razor realized something was wrong, it was already too late.

The daggers Bai Luo had been spinning weren't merely blocking the wolves' attacks.

At the same time, beneath the wolves' very noses, he had been releasing steel wires from the daggers.

"If I weren't running low on medicine, I'd really like to give you the cat bottle too."

Looking somewhat regretfully at the struggling Razor, Bai Luo turned his gaze toward the very center of the trial ground.

There, a greatsword containing a special power was planted in the earth.

Its name was Wolf's Gravestone.
