Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 396: Venti's Xylophone
What troubles Venti the most?
Is it having no place to live?
No. The world is vast—parks are his home.
Is it having no food?
No. One meal every three days, and each meal lasts him three years.
It's not having money to buy wine!
Already dirt poor to begin with, after being tricked by Bai Luo, he ended up owing a huge debt to Angel's Share. Trying to repay it by performing regularly at the tavern would take who knows how many years.
And most of the Mora he earned during that time would go straight toward paying off his debt.
Fortunately, Master Diluc was quite kind. After Venti performed, he would treat him to a glass of apple cider.
But for a proper drunkard, one glass only stirs up the craving—it doesn't satisfy it.
So… he developed a special trick.
To prevent the staff at Angel's Share from taking the Mora he earned, he even encouraged the audience to "pay" with drinks instead—buy wine from the tavern and offer it to him if they enjoyed his music.
Thanks to this unique method, Venti quickly found himself thriving again in Mondstadt.
Until… he caught a whiff of a familiar sweet scent.
"Hm?"
Venti had originally planned to accept the drink being offered, but when he saw Bai Luo's smiling face, it was as if he'd seen a cat—he instantly retreated dozens of steps, backing himself up against the wall of Angel's Share.
What was even more amazing was that even while doing this, his playing didn't stop.
Truly a dedicated bard.
"My apologies, everyone. Today's performance ends here. If you enjoyed it, you can come watch again every afternoon in front of Angel's Share!"
Knowing Bai Luo had likely come with serious business, Venti proactively dismissed the crowd.
Before that, though, he made sure to advertise for his creditor.
The drinkers still wanted to keep watching the show, but since Venti clearly had no intention of continuing, they reluctantly dispersed.
"Let's go to the tavern. It's easier to talk there."
Under Venti's lead, the two entered Angel's Share and headed straight to the second floor.
Along the way, quite a few regulars greeted him—it seemed he'd been getting along quite well here lately.
"What would you two like to drink?"
Seeing the familiar pair again, the bartender on the second floor instinctively stepped back a bit.
He hadn't been present during the incident that day, but he had seen the aftermath—and it had been a mess.
"One apple cider for the bard. As for me, it's fine if I drink what I brought, right?"
"Uh… as you wish."
If it had been anyone else, the bartender might have already called for help to throw them out.
But Bai Luo's identity was… special, to say the least.
"Make that a bottle, not a glass!"
After getting tricked by Bai Luo last time, there was no way Venti would let him off easily this time.
If he didn't squeeze him properly, he wouldn't deserve to be called Barbatos.
The bartender hesitated slightly and glanced at Bai Luo.
He knew full well that this bard had no Mora—and in fact owed the tavern money.
So whether to bring a bottle or not was entirely up to Bai Luo.
"Give him a bottle."
Bai Luo nodded in agreement.
After all, he wasn't the one paying.
The bartender noted their order and went downstairs to fetch the drinks.
Venti spoke up again.
"How's your progress regarding Dvalin?"
After they struck their deal, he had kept an eye on Bai Luo's movements.
But this guy hadn't taken any action at all—just lazing around every day.
"I've gathered some information these past few days. I'm planning to head to the snowy mountain first."
Bai Luo picked up the glass of "Sunsettia Blend" on the table and took a sip, a look of satisfaction spreading across his face.
That expression puzzled Venti.
Wasn't that drink supposed to be quite sour?
"The snowy mountain? Does it have something to do with Durin?"
When Bai Luo mentioned the snowy mountain, Venti immediately thought of Durin.
Durin was the poisonous dragon that he and Dvalin had defeated together hundreds of years ago. In that final battle, the defeated Durin fell from the sky and crashed into the endless snow. It was also then that Dvalin swallowed Durin's toxic blood.
"Yeah. If we want to solve Dvalin's problem, we have to make a trip to the snowy mountain."
"So? Why are you coming to me? Right now, I'm just a bard named Venti."
Regarding that battle, Venti clearly had no intention of revealing anything to Bai Luo.
Or rather… the things involved in that battle weren't something that could be spoken of lightly.
"The snowy mountain is still your territory, more or less. Now I'm going up there—and I'm doing it to help you deal with Dvalin. Aren't you going to sponsor me a bit?"
What does it mean to reveal your true intentions? This was it.
Even though he had already made a deal with Barbatos, that didn't stop Bai Luo from trying to squeeze a little more out of him.
After all, just making him wear a maid outfit was far from enough.
"Hmm… how about sponsoring you with a song?"
Venti's assets were currently in the negatives—how could he possibly have any spare Mora to give Bai Luo?
"Forget the song. Got any way to help me resist the cold?"
"The cold? You're one of Anastasya Harbinger, and you're afraid of the cold?"
When Bai Luo said that, Venti's face immediately showed an expression as if he had seen Morax.
Snezhnaya's environment… wasn't it pretty much the same as the snowy mountain?
Wouldn't Bai Luo going there be like returning home?
"I'm of Liyue descent, not a native of Snezhnaya. Haven't you noticed I'm always traveling abroad?"
He had a perfectly reasonable explanation for Venti's confusion.
His appearance alone was enough proof.
Are people from Liyue afraid of the cold?
The one Venti had the most dealings with was Morax of Liyue.
But the physique of a god couldn't really be compared to that of a human.
That left him somewhat puzzled.
Still, puzzled or not, Bai Luo's trip to the snowy mountain was indeed to help him save Dvalin.
Helping him in return was only natural.
Under Bai Luo's curious gaze, Venti untied the Vision hanging at his waist.
This so-called Vision was just a glass bead he had made himself to imitate those granted to chosen ones.
It had no ability to channel elemental power—purely decorative.
Since he didn't have the Holy Lyre with him and couldn't be bothered to carry a regular harp, he had given it the ability to transform into a xylophone.
"It's called Der Frühling. When I don't have the Holy Lyre, I use it for my performances. It doesn't have the Lyre's divine power, but after being with me for so long, it's been imbued with my aura. It might be able to help you."
But before handing Der Frühling over to Bai Luo, Venti gave a warning.
"Return it after you're done!"
"Don't worry! Once I personally resolve Dvalin's problem, I'll definitely give it back!"
Snatching the fake Vision from Venti's hand, Bai Luo made a solemn promise.
Yes, he would definitely return it.
