Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 424: When the Fatui Are Handling Things, Don't Meddle
"The... the most precious thing I have?"
Did she even possess something like that?
Sucrose looked somewhat confused.
"I heard that Mr. Albedo gave you a set of teaching materials. If you're willing to exchange those for it, I'd be more than happy to help you obtain anything you want."
As mentioned before, the notes and books Bai Luo had obtained from Albedo were incomplete.
The reason he had started slacking off later wasn't because he had lost interest in alchemy.
Rather, the missing books made it impossible for him to continue learning.
He had even asked Silver to compile replacement materials, but while Silver could work things out for himself, compiling them into a coherent textbook was another matter entirely.
The books Silver produced left Bai Luo completely bewildered.
Even if Silver's intelligence was on par with Albedo's, his experience and accumulated knowledge still fell short.
Creating teaching materials that an "ordinary person" like Bai Luo could understand was still a long road ahead for Silver.
"If it's that, then I must refuse."
Instinctively covering her satchel, Sucrose shook her head.
If the notes and textbooks had been written by her, she would have gladly shared them with this stranger.
But these had been personally entrusted to her by Albedo.
Without his permission, she would never pass them on to anyone else.
"A copy would be fine. I don't necessarily need the original."
Bai Luo wasn't ready to give up and pressed further.
"If you still want them, I can ask Mr. Albedo for his opinion. But without his approval, I truly can't give them to you."
Even if it were only a copy, Sucrose had no intention of agreeing.
She would rather give up on the Great Snowboar King's bones than compromise her principles.
"Very well. Since you insist, I won't force the matter."
Bai Luo understood that getting the textbook from Sucrose was clearly impossible.
So...
A sweet fragrance drifted through the air, causing Sucrose, who sat across from Bai Luo, to twitch her nose unconsciously.
Even her ears gave a slight flick.
"A Sunsettia?"
Seeing the fruit Bai Luo had taken out, curiosity filled Sucrose's eyes.
She had studied Sunsettias before.
But a Sunsettia that emitted such a unique and enticing aroma was something she had never encountered.
Has it been genetically improved?
Or was it an alchemical creation?
Either way, its delightful scent had already piqued her curiosity.
"If it's bones you want, I'll still give them to you. Consider it a gesture of friendship. Though I probably won't be able to get you any of the particularly rare pieces."
Casually placing the Sunsettia on the table, Bai Luo spoke as though the fruit were nothing special.
"It's just... I really can pay for it."
Although Sucrose said that, her eyes kept drifting toward the Sunsettia beside Bai Luo.
Did she want to eat it?
More than eating it, she wanted to study what made it different from ordinary Sunsettias.
"Talking about money hurts friendships. Besides, if Mr. Albedo really does agree to teach me alchemy, won't we practically be family in the future? Oh, it looks like our soup is ready. I'll go get it."
As if by accident, Bai Luo nudged the Sunsettia slightly closer to her before standing up and walking toward Harris.
"Um, your Sunsettia..."
Sucrose looked at the departing Bai Luo.
In the end, she could not resist the fruit's allure and spoke up.
Many of the subjects within her field of biological alchemy originated from the questions she constantly asked about the world.
And the source of those questions was her curiosity—a curiosity more passionate than anyone else's.
Even something as ordinary as a Whopperflower—used by most people merely as a source of sugar—had once held Sucrose's attention for a very long time.
A fruit that looked no different from any other Sunsettia yet emitted such a unique fragrance struck directly at Sucrose's greatest weakness.
And because Bai Luo understood her personality so well, he deliberately refrained from handing the fruit to her himself.
Compared to personally offering the fruit to someone, watching them eagerly take the initiative to eat it themselves gave him far greater satisfaction.
"Oh, if you want it, just take it. I have more."
Gulp
Swallowing nervously, Sucrose stared at the Sunsettia before reaching out her hand.
Without Bai Luo's permission, she would never have dared touch it.
After all, Sucrose was a well-behaved girl, unlike a certain someone.
But since Bai Luo had already given his approval, she no longer held back.
Picking up the Sunsettia, she first brought it close and took a sniff.
The fragrance that filled her nostrils nearly made her lose herself in bliss.
Taking out the small knife she always carried, she carefully sliced off a piece.
The cut was like severing the fruit's main artery—juice immediately sprayed out.
Looking at the juice on her fingers, Sucrose instinctively put them into her mouth.
And then—
Thud!
Although it had only been a tiny mouthful of juice, for someone like Sucrose, who had never experienced such an overwhelming explosion of flavor, it was enough to knock her unconscious.
. . .
"Sir, she..."
Upon noticing Sucrose's condition, the chef Harris's expression changed instantly.
His previously kind gaze became sharp and wary.
Even the kitchen knife he had been using to prepare ingredients found its way into his hand.
It was clear that if Bai Luo failed to provide a reasonable explanation, Harris intended to make him provide one.
"The Fatui are conducting business. Don't interfere."
In response, Bai Luo merely flashed the Fatui insignia on his sleeve.
The moment Harris saw the symbol, all of his aggression vanished.
One had to admit that having a bad reputation came with certain advantages.
At least in situations like this, it saved a great deal of time.
Even so, a few people quietly slipped away from the camp, seemingly headed to find nearby Knights of Favonius.
"My lord, should we follow them?"
Bai Luo wasn't the only one who noticed.
The Fatui agents hidden nearby had seen them as well.
Since Bai Luo had previously instructed them to seek his approval before taking any action, they came to him for orders.
"No need. Bring me one of the Great Snowboar King's thigh bones we acquired earlier. Preferably one that still has blood and flesh on it. I have a use for it."
The Knights of Favonius would need some time to arrive.
And during that time, he could accomplish quite a lot.
Looking at the unconscious Sucrose slumped over the table, Bai Luo reached out and found the two furry ears hidden among her hair.
They felt nice to the touch—much softer than the fleshy flower buds of a Whopperflower.
After thoroughly satisfying his curiosity, Bai Luo's gaze slowly moved downward.
Now came the main event.
