"You're actually quite fat, dattebayo!"
The emotional atmosphere didn't just pop; it exploded.
"YOU IDIOTTTTTTT!" she shouted, her hair practically splitting into nine terrifying strands as she stood over him.
"I'M NOT FAT! I'M CARRYING THE HOPES OF THE VILLAGE IN HERE, YOU LITTLE BRAT!"
The woman's face was filled with rage, her deep red hair practically floating in the air like a stormy cloud. Naruto scrambled backward on the bench, his hands up in a defensive pose, his heart hammering against his ribs.
"Gah! I'm sorry! I'm sorry, dattebayo!" he shouted, nearly falling over the back of the seat.
She took a deep breath, her nostrils flaring as she forced herself to calm down. Slowly, the terrifying aura faded, and she sat down on the bench beside him with a heavy huff.
Her hand returned to her stomach, her touch becoming infinitely soft again—the kind of softness that didn't belong to a ninja, but to something much more ancient.
"I'm not 'fat,' you moron. " she said, her voice dropping back into that beautiful, quiet register. "I'm... I'm being a wife. I'm doing the most important job in the world."
She looked at him out of the corner of her violet-blue eye, a small, knowing smirk playing on her lips.
"A wife has to be strong enough to hold everything together. Even when it's heavy. Especially when it's heavy." She patted her stomach one more time, a look of pure, total devotion crossing her face.
"I'm protecting something precious for the man I love. That's what being a wife means, dattebane."
Naruto sat frozen, the word 'wife' echoing in his head. He looked at her, then at her hand, and then back at her face. For the first time, he didn't see a 'fat' lady or even just a 'special ninja.'
He saw someone who was anchored to the world by a love so strong it made the stars look dim.
He looked down at the expensive black box in his lap, the golden threads shimmering.
"A wife, huh?" Naruto whispered, his stomach giving a tiny, much quieter growl. "Is that why you brought me this? Because you're 'holding things together' for me too?"
The woman laughed—a bright, clear sound that chased away the last of the night's chill. "Don't get ahead of yourself, brat! I just couldn't stand the thought of someone with hair that bright going to bed on an empty stomach. Now shut up and eat, dattebane!"
The golden threads of the box came loose under Naruto's trembling fingers, revealing a spread of delicacies—perfectly shaped onigiri, grilled fish, and colorful vegetables that looked far too fancy for a park bench.
He didn't wait. He began devouring the food, his cheeks bulging like a squirrel's.
"Mmmph! This is amazing, dattebayo!" Naruto managed to squeeze out between bites. He swallowed hard and looked up at her, curiosity finally winning over his hunger.
"So, who are you anyway? I mean, you keep hitting me and feeding me, so you gotta have a name, right?"
The woman tucked a stray strand of red hair behind her ear, her violet-blue eyes reflecting the moonlight. A proud, confident smile spread across her face.
"My name is UZUMAKI KUSHINA.." she said, her voice clear and strong.
The word hit Naruto like a physical blow. He stopped chewing, a piece of rice sticking to his lip.
"Uzumaki?" he repeated, his voice small. "Wait... what did you say? Uzumaki?"
Kushina let out a dry, slightly sad chuckle. "Yeah, Uzumaki. I know, I know—you're probably shocked, dattebane. Most people think the clan was wiped out entirely, and they're mostly right. To be honest... I'm the last member."
Naruto's brain began to whirl at a dangerous speed. 'Uzumaki? I don't remember anyone else with that name! Apart from me... and I'm me! Does this mean... we really messed up? We messed up big time, dattebayo!'
Kushina continueed unknown to the storm in Naruto's head. She leaned back, crossing her arms with a playful grin.
"And since you don't even know my name, I bet you have no idea who I am in this village. I am the wife of the current Hokage."
Naruto froze. 'The wife of the current Hokage? Wait... we reached the era of Sandaime-no-jiji? But... I never knew his wife was this beautiful or this scary! Jiji was hiding a wife like this?!'
His thoughts were abruptly shattered as Kushina's grin widened, her eyes shining with unmistakable pride.
"I am the wife of the YONDAIME HOKAGE..." she declared, her voice ringing with love. "My husband, Namikaze Minato."
The words felt like they were vibrating inside Naruto's head, echoing over and over.
Yondaime...
Yondaime...
The expensive box nearly slipped from his lap. A cold sweat broke out across his forehead as the realization crashed down on him like a mountain.
'No... no, no, no! Yondaime?! That means... Namikaze Minato?!' Naruto's eyes bulged, his breath hitching in his chest.
'We messed up! We messed up! We messed up again! This isn't the old man's time... this is
The YellowFlash'stime!'
The premium black box slipped from Naruto's numb fingers, the remaining food forgotten. The name Namikaze Minato felt like a seal being ripped open inside his mind.
Suddenly, the park, the trees, and even the woman sitting next to him began to blur. The air became heavy—not cold, but thick and suffocating.
Naruto's vision flickered, and for a split second, he wasn't on a park bench anymore.
He was standing in a dark, damp corridor.
The floor was covered in an inch of golden water that rippled with every frantic beat of his heart.
Far ahead, behind a massive, rusted gate that stretched into the infinite shadows, something began to stir.
Through the iron bars, two massive pairs of red light tore through the darkness. They weren't just eyes; they were oceans of ancient, simmering hatred.
The creature shifted, and the sound was like mountains grinding together. Naruto could see the outlines of fur as orange as a dying star, coarse and thick.
The shadow was huge, eclipsing the very concept of the horizon. Then came the tails—thick, swaying shadows that moved like giant serpents behind the bars, one... three... five... their movement stirring a wind that smelled of old blood and burnt earth.
From the darkness of that massive throat, a heavy, hot breath escaped. It came out as a thick, visible plume of white smoke, curling around the bars like a living thing.
Then, the water fell.
Drip
A single, massive drop of something dark splashed into the water at Naruto's feet, sending a vibration through his very soul.
A voice—low, growling, and vibrating with a grudge that could shatter glass—echoed through the hollow chamber of Naruto's mind. It didn't sound human. It sounded like the roar of a forest fire given words.
"Yondaime..."
The name was growled with a loathing so deep it made Naruto's blood turn to ice. More smoke billowed out from the hidden mouth behind the gates, coiling through the air as the beast's breathing grew heavier, more focused.
"So... we have returned to the era....Minato... "
The threat in that voice—snapped Naruto back to reality.
Naruto blinked, gasping for air as the park rushed back into focus. He was shaking, his skin crawling with the lingering heat of that red chakra.
He looked at the woman—Kushina—who was still smiling at him, completely unaware that the monster inside him had just recognized her husband's name.
"Hey, kid? You okay?" Kushina asked, her brow furrowing in concern. "You look like you just saw a ghost."
Naruto couldn't answer. His throat was too dry. He didn't just see a ghost; he had heard the voice of the nightmare that was supposed to be sealed away.
'We messed up' he thought, his hands trembling in his lap. 'We didn't just go back in time. We went back to the beginning of the end.'
The voice of the beast inside him was worse. 'Yondaime Hokage...' Naruto thought, his mind racing.
He remembered the stories he had heard back in his own time. Everyone in Konoha knew the legend: Yondaime Hokage was the hero who had fought the giant Kyubi.
He was the one who had finally ended the terror by sealing the monster away. Naruto's hand instinctively moved to his stomach, right where the seal was hidden.
'If this is the era of the Yondaime..' he realized with a shiver,
'Then this is the time when the fox was first sealed. This is when it all started.'
He looked at the woman—Kushina—with wide, panicked eyes. She was the wife of the Fourth Hokage. That meant she lived with the man who would eventually put a monster inside a baby.
Naruto felt a strange mix of awe and fear. To him, Yondaime Hokage was a legendary hero, but also the man responsible for the burden he had carried his whole life.
To Naruto, they were just two powerful, legendary people from a history book—and he was just a lonely, hungry ninja who had crashed into their world by mistake.
"Hey, kid? You're acting really weird, dattebane." Kushina said, leaning closer with a worried look. "Did the food go down the wrong pipe or something?"
Naruto swallowed hard, trying to keep his voice from shaking. "No... no, I'm fine, dattebayo. I just... I just realized I'm a long, long way from home."
Naruto felt a wave of panic wash over him. The air felt too thick, and the secret he was carrying—the knowledge of the future—felt like it was about to choke him. He stood up abruptly, the black box nearly sliding off his lap.
"I... I have to go, dattebayo!" he stammered, his eyes darting around. "I just remembered I have to find a place to sleep... and find Jiji... and—"
"Wait! Hold on a second, brat!" Kushina reached out, her hand snapping forward to grab his wrist to keep him from running off into the dark.
The moment her skin touched his, the world seemed to stop.
CRACK!
A sharp, violent spark—like a bolt of invisible lightning—exploded between their palms. It wasn't a normal sting; it was an aggressive, burning jolt that ripped through both of them.
It felt as if their very souls had slammed into one another, trying to pull together and push apart at the exact same time.
Kushina gasped and pulled her hand away as if she had touched a fireball. She pulled her fingers to her chest, her hand trembling. Her palm was bright red and stinging with a strange, humming heat.
The park fell into a deathly silence. The wind died down, and the distant sounds of the village vanished.
Naruto staggered back, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He felt a heavy, bitter taste of iron at the back of his throat, like he had been sucking on a rusty nail.
Suddenly, his stomach gave a violent, painful thump from the inside—so hard it nearly knocked the wind out of him. It felt like the beast behind the gates had just tried to punch its way through his ribs.
Across from him, Kushina's face went pale. She winced, clutching her stomach as a sharp, cold cramp shot through her.
It wasn't the baby moving—it was the heavy, seal on her own body tightening so hard it took her breath away. A single bead of cold sweat rolled down her temple.
They stood there in the silence, both staring down at their own hands.
Kushina looked up at Naruto, and for the first time, the playfulness was gone. There was a flash of genuine fear in her violet-blue eyes.
She wasn't scared of the boy, but she was terrified of what she had just felt. Inside her, the Great Beast had just growled in a way she had never heard before—a sound of recognition.
She looked at the blonde stranger, her heart hammering against her ribs. She didn't know he carried a monster too, but she knew one thing for sure.
Whatever just happened wasn't a mistake. Their meeting had awakened something that should have stayed asleep.
"What... what are you?" she whispered, her voice shaking as she looked at him.
Naruto's head began to throb. The world around him started to spin, and that dark, watery hallway flashed before his eyes again.
The heavy, hot air returned, and this time, the voice was much louder.
"Do you see that, boy?" the beast growled, its voice dripping with a fake kind of sympathy. "Look at her hand. Look at how she is shaking because of you."
Naruto clutched his head, his eyes squeezed shut. "No... shut up! I didn't mean to hurt her, dattebayo!"
"But you did." the voice growled. The giant fox behind the bars leaned closer, its red eyes glowing with a wicked light.
"Your power is too much for a normal human. You are a curse. You bring pain to everyone you touch. Even this woman, who was kind to you... she is suffering because you are a monster."
"I'm not... I'm not a monster!" Naruto shouted in his mind, but the guilt was starting to eat him. He looked at Kushina. She was still looking at her hand, her face pale.
"You can fix it " the fox whispered, its voice sounding almost soft.
"You don't want to be the bad guy, do you? Just go to her. Take her hand. Apologize properly. If you hold her hand, your chakra will calm her down. It's the only way to make the pain go away."
Naruto hesitated. His heart was heavy with guilt. He just wanted to make things right. He didn't know the beast just wanted him to touch her again so their two halves could pull at the seals.
"I... I just have to say sorry.." Naruto whispered to himself.
Beside him, Kushina's voice broke through the haze. "Kid? Hey! Are you okay? You're acting really strange!" She stepped toward him, her hand still trembling.
Naruto didn't answer. He moved like a puppet. He reached out his hand, his head low. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..."
As his fingers brushed against Kushina's skin again, she froze. She didn't pull away this time because she was too shocked by what she saw.
Naruto lifted his head, and Kushina gasped.
His bright blue eyes were gone. In their place were eyes of a terrifying, burning crimson. Inside the red, the pupils had stretched out into long, vertical black slits—sharp like a cat's or a snake's.
They weren't human eyes anymore. They were the eyes of the nightmare she lived with every single day.
"Your eyes..." Kushina whispered, her heart stopping. "They're just like..."
She looked into those red slits and felt the Great Beast inside her roar in a way that shook her entire soul.
"KYUBI....!? "
