Chapter 654 - Chapter 654, All Dead Already?

Chapter 654, All Dead Already?

Wu Heng and Qi Hancai stood in the hallway outside the window, watching the stiff, trembling female technician.

They exchanged glances and both cracked a smile.

Teaching skeletons wasn't anything new back at the original base.

But for these new recruits, it'd take some getting used to.

Nothing serious—time would fix it.

If they could handle the apocalypse, teaching skeletons shouldn't be a big deal.

"Let's go check the next one," Wu Heng said.

They moved on to the next classroom, peering in through the window.

Another male technician stood at the podium, holding a device part and explaining its function.

He seemed a bit more natural than the woman.

Just a little sneaky in posture, eyes darting around nervously.

"Nice classroom. Way better than the old base," Wu Heng said quietly.

Qi Hancai stood beside him, "These were already classrooms. We just cleaned them up. There are a few more down the hall we can use."

"We'll see and arrange more courses then," Wu Heng said.

As they spoke, Qi Hancai's radio crackled, "Sister Qi, the convoy's ready. We can head out."

"Alright, I'm on my way," she responded and turned to Wu Heng. "The convoy's downstairs."

"Let's go."

They went downstairs together. The convoy was already waiting outside.

Qi Hancai took over a truck, and Wu Heng boarded with his skeleton attendants.

Once ready, the convoy rolled out.

They headed beyond the base.

...

The convoy turned off the main road and continued on a side path.

The skeleton army would advance along the main road, wiping out the zombie hordes. The nearby area had already been cleared.

So, to kill more zombies, Wu Heng had to go to more remote villages and towns.

It also gave him a place to level up his spirits.

After some distance off the main road—

Wandering zombies appeared in the distance.

Wu Heng got off and said to the big-headed skeleton beside him, "Skeletons forward. Prepare for battle."

Clatter clatter~!

The skeleton army marched to the front, crouched, spears pointed forward.

"Send the skeleton hounds to lure them," Wu Heng ordered.

At the rear—

Skeleton hounds in basic vests charged out.

As they neared the zombies—

The speakers in their ribcages blared a piercing noise.

Rooooar~!

The zombies instantly turned toward the noise, roaring in unison.

The skeleton hounds turned and fled, their belly speakers continuing to blare.

The zombies stirred to life.

They gathered into dense hordes, growling and chasing the hounds.

Then, a skeleton wyvern soared into the sky, gliding above the horde.

Solid iron pellets rained down like a storm.

Boom boom boom~!

Dust and smoke rose. The ground shook.

"Uncle, the horde's scattered," Xiaoxiao's voice echoed in his ear.

Wu Heng focused ahead.

As the dust cleared, he saw the horde splitting, pouring into side alleys.

A big-headed zombie?

Or a Corpse King!

Wu Heng scanned the surroundings quickly but saw no such targets.

Hatred detection didn't activate either.

"Xiaoxiao, tell Glenda and Beni to scout the area. Look for a big-headed zombie or a Corpse King. These undead are clearly following orders," Wu Heng instructed.

"Don't need to leave someone to guard you?" Xiaoxiao glanced at the horde.

"If it's just zombies, no big deal," Wu Heng said.

"Okay. Then stay hidden."

"That's not necessary!"

Xiaoxiao shot into the air, relayed the message to the other two spirits, and they split up to scout.

The search began.

Wu Heng issued more orders, "Deploy troops to block off both side paths."

The skeletons moved out.

They sealed the nearby side roads, waiting for the horde to close in.

Soon, countless small zombie groups poured out from all directions.

More climbed buildings and broke through windows.

They dropped into the ranks, only to be chopped down by axe-wielding skeletons below.

...

"Uncle, found one—it's a Corpse King," Xiaoxiao returned and reported.

She could see levels, making it easy to locate targets.

"Let me see," Wu Heng said.

Xiaoxiao dove into his body, sharing her vision.

The view began in a building.

It flew straight through walls, making Wu Heng dizzy.

Soon, inside a room, two figures appeared.

A mutated zombie knelt on the floor. A female zombie in Professional attire sat on its back.

A Corpse King.

Same type as the one in the business suit they'd killed before.

Its head was covered with overlapping 'lingzhi'-like mushroom caps, and gray-white eyes peeked through the gaps.

He'd seen two Corpse King types so far.

One like this—high intelligence, strong regeneration, able to control huge hordes.

No clear limit to how many it could command.

The other had wings, beetle-like, could fly, and had great defense and regeneration. It didn't seem to control as many, but the difference wasn't obvious.

Xiaoxiao finished looking and flew back.

The shared vision ended.

Wu Heng released her, and soon Glenda and Beni returned from different directions.

"Found it—it's a Corpse King," Wu Heng told the spirits.

Xiaoxiao bragged, "I found it."

Wu Heng thought a moment. "No problem. Beni, stay on horde watch. Glenda and Xiaoxiao, take skeletons to surround the Corpse King. Don't let her escape."

With his current strength—

The Corpse King posed little threat.

The only concern was keeping it from fleeing in the chaos.

The corpse and core were too valuable.

With that, Wu Heng pulled out the long-unused [Silentblade Cursed Sword] and tossed it to Glenda.

"What about me?" Xiaoxiao raised her hand.

Wu Heng said, "Take the vampire skeletons. Wait for the signal and strike."

"Got it!" Xiaoxiao nodded.

Wu Heng turned to the big-headed skeleton, "Send a vampire squad to follow Xiaoxiao."

Whoosh~!

A few vampire skeletons flew over.

With the building as cover, Xiaoxiao and Glenda quickly flew toward the Corpse King's location.

Wu Heng ordered, "Skeleton army, attack."

Clatter clatter~!

The defending skeletons counterattacked.

They clashed with the horde, drawing the Corpse King's attention.

...

In the distance, outside a building—

Crash~!

Glass shattered loudly.

A floating longsword drifted in through the window.

The Corpse King jumped back, and the kneeling mutated zombie rose.

The sword unsheathed.

Swish swish~!

Two sword beams flashed. The rising zombie's head rolled. A deep gash appeared on the Corpse King's neck.

Thick, dark red blood oozed out.

The Corpse King roared and hurled a chair at the floating sword.

The chair flew—but another sword beam flashed.

Another slash struck the neck.

The half-healed wound split again, blood gushing, the head tilted.

Fear replaced fury in the Corpse King's eyes.

It ran wildly toward the door.

Trying to escape the hovering sword.

The third beam sliced down.

The dangling head dropped off completely. Blood splattered the walls.

The female corpse collapsed and didn't rise again.

Glenda sheathed the sword, floated out the window, and pointed down.

Xiaoxiao lit up with excitement. She shouted to the vampire skeletons, "Attack!"

Then charged in with the skeletons.

But seeing the decapitated corpse, her mood fell. "Huh? It's already dead?"

Glenda floated beside her, "Yep. Have the skeletons carry the body back."

Xiaoxiao sighed, "Bring the body back then."
