Chapter 793 - Chapter 793, Using You as a Shield

Chapter 793, Using You as a Shield

"Can't worry about that much anymore."

Wu Heng leaned back in his chair and sighed helplessly.

He had originally planned to wait for the Guild's investigation, but with Wen Mansa facing repeated assassination attempts, it was clear from her words that she felt threatened.

Especially when it came to threats against her daughter.

He couldn't afford to delay—things could spiral out of control.

"Just kill the Second Prince?" Glenda asked.

Wu Heng thought it over. "We might not even know his exact location. Let's see how things go. If we do find him—then yes, kill him."

In terms of strength, the Second Prince was definitely weaker than the First.

But he was like a persistent leech, constantly stirring up trouble in Rentam City.

Glenda floated to the side and said softly, "With our current strength, killing him is easy. The problem is the investigation team. We've leveled up, but we still lack the foundation of those heroes."

"Got it. I'll ask Lilith in a bit."

"She might not tell you. Why not have Xiaoxiao ask?"

Wu Heng considered it and shook his head. "Let's not drag Xiaoxiao into this. She finally made a friend."

"Your call. The rest of the detective story is in the drawer. Before you leave, just have your little maid publish it in order," Glenda said.

"Okay," Wu Heng nodded.

While the two talked—

Xiaoxiao and Benny flew back from outside.

They passed through the wall into the study, excitedly chatting about the recent fight.

Wu Heng frowned, listening for a while but not understanding. "What started the fight?"

"Two guys got drunk and started brawling at the table. Then they each got backup, and it turned into a big brawl. Smashed up half the tavern," Benny explained.

"People still get drunk and fight these days?" Wu Heng asked, surprised.

"Then a Deputy Steward showed up with a team and arrested them," Benny added.

Xiaoxiao chimed in, "Benny and I tried to break it up, or it would've been worse."

"How'd you do that?"

Xiaoxiao crossed her arms. "Someone tried to sneak attack, so Benny and I possessed them. Scared them off."

Benny added, "Yeah, someone pulled a weapon, so we stepped in."

Wu Heng nodded. "Good job, both of you."

"Hehe!" Xiaoxiao beamed.

Wu Heng stood. "Go play. I'm going to rest."

The wraiths said goodnight and floated to their spots.

Wu Heng left the study and decided not to contact Lilith that night after all.

He returned to his room to rest.

...…

Morning, after breakfast.

Andviel and Annette went to City Hall. Minnie and Robe trained in the courtyard.

Wu Heng sat in the yard for a while, then checked the time.

He went upstairs to the radio room.

After checking each logbook and confirming no messages, he sat down at Lilith's station.

Based on Lilith's habits, it wouldn't have been a big deal to contact her last night.

But still, he and Xiaoxiao were different. Contacting her so late just felt rude.

He picked up the mic. "Leader Lilith."

After a brief pause, Lilith responded in a flat voice. "Yes?"

Wu Heng said directly, "Leader, I'd like to ask how Leader Saidu's investigation in the Ekow Kingdom is going."

Saidu was the religious leader, currently still investigating over there.

Lilith replied calmly, "Still in the Kingdom. Afraid he'll come after Gold-Silver Island?"

Still in Ekow.

And by the sound of it, not returning anytime soon.

Wu Heng said, "Just curious about the investigation progress. Leader Saidu is generous—he wouldn't bother with Gold-Silver Island."

Lilith's voice held a hint of laughter. "Yeah, right. I don't buy that. The Church is extreme. Their dogma is hard to shift. If he returns, I'll warn you ahead of time. Be ready."

A heads-up.

Lilith would still look out for him, in her own way.

"Thank you, Leader," Wu Heng said, then added, "Actually, I have one more important question."

"Go on."

Wu Heng got straight to the point. "Back when I was a captain, our city fought against Ekow Kingdom's rebels. If the two sides go at it, will that affect the Guild's investigation?"

...…

Guild Headquarters, Steward's Study.

After a knock, the door opened, and an elf merchant in a light green robe entered.

He glanced at the sisters and bowed. "Representative of the Emerald Shadow Guild, greetings to Steward Sheila Grey and Assistant Shiyali."

Sheila Grey nodded. "Mr. Helion, have a seat."

The Emerald Shadow Guild was a resident elven merchant guild on Gold-Silver Island.

Sheila and Shiyali had most of their supplies shipped in via that guild.

But the elf didn't sit. He stepped forward and pulled out a letter from his spatial ring. "This is from the Elder Council."

Sheila accepted it.

He then produced another. "This one's from Mr. Silveren."

Silveren was Sheila and Shiyali's father.

Sheila took it, opened the letters. Shiyali moved to sit on her chair's armrest.

Both focused on the content.

The message in both was the same—ensure a deal with Gold-Silver Island was made.

Sheila folded the letters. "I already recommended the Emerald Shadow Guild to City Hall."

As fellow elves, she would've helped even without the letters.

But things didn't seem to be going smoothly.

The elf said, "Steward, I heard other guilds have received invitations to City Hall, but ours hasn't."

Realizing he sounded pushy, he coughed and softened his tone. "Our clan really values this trade. Please speak up for us again. Emerald Shadow is no worse than the Starflower Guild. We'll even give 20% of profits to the Steward."

His tone showed some desperation.

They had already been recommended, but nothing came of it.

The sisters exchanged a glance, puzzled. Surely Wu Heng wouldn't ignore them like this?

"Call the Island Lord's Mansion. Ask about it," Sheila said.

Shiyali got up and called immediately.

The elf raised an eyebrow. They were calling now?

Some kind of magic tool?

The Steward's ties to the mansion must be strong—she could call directly.

Soon, Shiyali hung up. "Head to City Hall now. They're about to hold the meeting."

The elf lit up and bowed deeply. "Thank you, Steward, Assistant Shiyali. I'll go now and thank you again afterward."

"Go ahead," Sheila nodded.

The elf left with his group, heading to City Hall.

Once they were gone—

Sheila said, "I heard they're choosing ten guilds. Emerald Shadow should be one of them."

Shiyali sat down again, smiling. "Minnie answered the call. Said they'll give us a share, then told them to go to City Hall."

Sheila raised a brow. "What's that about? Are we really taking that money?"

Being a steward of Gold-Silver Island came with wealth.

Shiyali rested her chin in her hand. "We could decline. But this makes the elves value us more—and maybe helps with our parents."

"Wu Heng's idea?"

"Definitely. Who else would think of this?"

"Hmph. At least he's thoughtful."

Shiyali just smiled silently.

...…

Island Lord's Mansion, radio room.

The Rentam City situation was surely on the Guild's radar.

Especially since he'd been quite active lately—no way the Whisperers in Rentam didn't send intel.

Rather than playing coy, better to be upfront and show trust.

Lilith finally said, "The unrest in Rentam City is on record. Just don't let 'Saidu' catch you slipping."

Wu Heng raised an eyebrow.

So, the Guild wouldn't interfere—as long as Saidu had no excuse.

"Thank you, Leader. The mansion we're building for you is underway. We're also constructing a large entertainment center. Maybe you'll consider settling on the island."

Lilith said coldly, "Trying to use me as a shield?"
